Back To Basics

Stayed here for 3 nights in September. If you are looking for peace and quiet then this is the place for you. Virtually no noise whatsoever. Slightly sloping but of no great concern and access is easy even for a twin axle caravan. The site is situated close to Ashbourne at the Southern end of the Peak District so ideal for shops, supermarkets and exploring the White Peak area. As a previous poster has said, it is a short walk up to the farmhouse for chemical waste disposal. Water and recycling facilities are on site and phone signal is good. At £5 per night what is there not to like about this site! Well worth a visit.

A wonderful basic site!

We look for basic sites if possible and this was was excellent! Walking distance into Ashbourne but far enough away to feel very rural and be quiet. We visited for 2 nights in October 2021, so the end of their season and the ground was rather soft in places ( we lost traction on the grass and the levelling blocks sank in to the grass) and the loo disposal point is the other side of the farm house so it a long way to carry to cassette but apart from that the site is brilliant and, at £5, a bargain. The drinking water tap is right by the entrance so very easy to access, Good 4G signal on O2 network and good TV signal. We cycled from the site along the Tissington cycle trail from Ashbourne to just beyond Tissington and then stopped at Thorpe village on our return ( we could have cycled to Dovedale too but limited energy by then!!). The cycle track has a slight incline all the way to Tissington so we freewheeled most the way back with just a hill from Ashbourne back to the CL site.

Lovely CL

Obviously basic CLs do not suit everyone but this is a really well maintained quiet place to pitch up. If you haven't used a basic CL before this would be a very good place to start, so get your solar panel out and give it a go. Lovely views and only a 1.5 mile walk into Ashbourne. The owners are friendly and couldn't be more helpful. I hesitate to give such a positive review as it might make it more difficult for me to book a pitch in the future but I owe them for helping me sort out my van battery problem!

Little Gem

We arrived on this campsite intending to stay 3 nights ended up staying 7 what a gem £5 a night campsite details below. About 2 miles from the start of Tissington Trail Ashbourne which we did from campsite. Then there's the Manifold Trail 5 miles South also a walk to Thors Cave which you can access either on foot from wetton or from the trail, High Peak trail around 9 miles North, Head to Bakewell around 16 miles and do the Monsal Trail. Close by you will find Dovedale and the stepping stones well worth a visit. And not to forget Cromford Mills and Matlock Baths.

Excellent site peaceful and beaulifully kept

We stay on this site regularly and love it.  We like the fact that it has only water, battery charging and toilet emptying facilities, which the very reasonable price reflects. It is five minutes drive from Ashbourne where there are plenty of supermarkets and places to eat. Good for cycling and walking or just enjoying the peace and tranquility. Marion and Ray are always very welcoming, friendly and helpful but never intrusive. A truly wonderful site

15 years of peaceful visits

The access via the lane should be taken with care. Access to the field is easy, sightly sloping in parts. Extremely peaceful with excellent views. We always use own shower etc so facilities not a problem. Water pressure at tap is perfect.  We use this site regularly , perfect for couples . marion and ray lovely people, site is always mowed and bins emptied. Coming here for 15 years says it all really.

Pure peace

We arrived late and left early using this site as a stop over to meet friends the following day so cannot comment on local places of interest, feel sure there will be some within easy reach. The host was very pleasant and we had a very peaceful night, the approach road is very narrow so does require care but on arrival the scenery makes it all worthwhile. Slightly sloping so would have used blocks if staying but more on to early. No facilities which is a shame as feel sure this would make the well kept site full on a regular basis.
