Rural site, close to Durham and Beamish. Friendly and helpful owners.

We stayed here for a week in May. We were welcomed with fresh eggs from some of the 28 hens. Owing to days of rain the site was waterlogged but we were offered a hard standing. We got set up and enjoyed the view across the valley. Christine and Tony were very helpful with information and levelling items. There's a 6 mile circular walk through trees and fields that takes you past Broom House Farm where you can get lovely food.

All round excellent

Beautiful site with friendly owner. We were welcomed by them when we arrived and were given a couple of freshly laid eggs, which I enjoyed for my breakfast. Facilities were adaquate. We went on a very long and muddy walk which was great and the pub was great (first pub you come to), but all uphill on the way back. If we're ever in those parts again we wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

Super Site

A super site with two lovely people, Tony and Christine. Nice wide entrance and within a few minutes of the park and ride into the city ( free fares for senior citizens). We arrived late after a long drive from Devon, were greeted with free range eggs from Christines chucks and settled into a deep sleep. A previous member moans about the slope of the site, its nothing a caravanned could not easily cope with, I've used sites with double theirs. Covid stopped me going to Beamish so we will be back at a future date guys. Thanks for your company Mike And Vi

Fabulous

A really warm welcome including eggs from the chickens they have next to the site. Beautiful views and convenient for visiting Durham and Beamish. Had a lovely meal at the Travellers Rest which is within walking distance. The site is basic - no loos/showers and no drive over grey water but they are happy for you to drop that in the hedge -but basic is what we like. Quiet at night and dark skies. It does slope so you will need levelling blocks. Definitely recommended for tranquillity and convenience plus a warm welcome.

Great CL Site.

Great site with spectacular views. The owners Tony and Christine cannot do enough for you. On arrival we were greeted by both of them and given 6 free range eggs. One member has mentioned that you need leveling blocks,. We found this no problem. As for tearing up the grass which was also mentioned, again we found this no problem. Is this not down to the skill of the driver. We had heavy rain throughout our vist and towed off with ease. In our view this little gem is one of the best CL sites we have ever stayed on. It was that good we added an extra week. All ammeneties are near by with Durham Centre only 3 miles away. The Travellers Rest serves excellent food and is within walking distance We will definitely be returning.

Cracking little site

Found this little gem of a site and moved from the much larger and noisy site we were already on. Couldn’t have been a bigger contrast peaceful and quiet and beautiful views. A wonderful welcome and lovely freshly laid eggs given to us. Wish we could have stayed longer than our two nights but as the site is open all year we will definitely return. Highly recommend this little gem.

2 weeks October 2019

Returned recently from another longer than planned stay at old bridge end. We initially booked for 5 nights but ended up staying 14 !! We always receive a warm welcome and are assured of any assistance should we require it. Unfortunately, due to the excessive amount of rain we have had over last few weeks, the field, and everywhere else didn’t look as tidy as normal, but again, this is no fault of the owners, and not helped by cars driving over it unnecessarily. There are hard standing areas which can be used, and we were on one of these, which left us free to enjoy the superb view over the countryside to the west. It’s quiet the majority of the time, but understandably, there are a few cars go past morning and evening, mostly people on their way to and from work I imagine, due to it’s ideal location for Durham. We enjoy our time there, you feel as if you are out in the sticks, but in reality, everything is close at hand. We will return. A lovely site, with lovely owners.

Old Bridge End, Durham...disappointing!!

Although it does state in the site notes that it is sloping the photos don't indicate how steeply the site slopes. It may be fine in dry weather but following heavy rain it would be very difficult to come off without tearing up the grass surface. Even the hardstanding pitches require large blocks to level the vans, and they are rather narrow too. Without the assistance of a fellow caravanner we would have had extreme difficulty in getting our van level. As it was we had to utilise a 6" concrete block under one side. There are good views from the site and it is relatively easy to access being less than 1 ml off the A 691 Durham/Consett road. There is a Park and Ride about 3 miles away towards Durham with free parking, and I think no height barrier, and there are M/H parking spots, and those with concessionary passes can use them on the bus. The nearest supermarkets are a Lidl and a Sainsbury's, with fuel pumps at Pity Me, off the A167 about 5 mls from the site. The lane past the site is quite during the evening and night although there is some traffic from early morning. There are a couple of lanes close to the site suitable for walking ones dog and numerous disused railway track not far away good for both walking and cycling. Not up to the usual standard of CLs that we are used to, and would not return.

Excellent Site

Warm welcome, lots of information, could not have been more helpful, everything we needed was there. As a Motorhome you are better on one of the hard standing, it would difficult to get level on any other part of the CL. Walking distance to buses and pubs and local village. Highly recommend staying here.
