Visiting Beamish Museum

If your are visiting Beamish and like CLs then this is the one since it's only 7 miles from the museum. As a caravan club member you can get a 25% discount on the entry tickets, which last for 12 months. We spent 3 nights here and 2 days seeing Beamish. Some pitches on this CL are sloping but there are some handy blocks if required. Take care not to miss the turn off from the A691 roundabout. Its easily missed. The very congenial welcome is often accompanied by 2 freshly laid hens eggs. (yummy!!)

A peaceful site with good access to Durham and the Beamish Museum

We arrived after a period of heavy rain the previous couple of days but the site was well drained and as such we did not experience any difficulties in siting our van. The owner was very friendly and welcoming and we can recommend the free range eggs. The view from the site is of open countryside. We used the site as a base to visit the Beamish Museum something that we can recommend. Yes we would recommend this site it is quiet, the owner welcoming, and the views are what you would hope for from a country location.

First ever caravan trip. First class welcome.

We drove up to Durham towing our new caravan and did not really know what to expect. We only booked the day before and hoped that everyone else on this review site had to be right and they were! Tony and Christine are the most helpful and delightful couple that made us very welcome and had the knack of making us feel special. We were welcomed with 2 huge eggs for our breakfast the next morning and gosh they were good. Everything about the CL was great from the views and lovely horses in the next field to the proximity to Durham. We were not here as tourists (it is my husband's home area) but can vouch for what an excellent location it is and certainly away from the city but still within an easy drive particularly if you use the ParknRide a couple of miles away. We will certainly stay again when we are back up in Durham and can give it a big thumbs up for our first caravan trip. Thanks Tony and Christine for your genuine warm welcome and the lovely site.

Beautiful Location, very friendly welcome.

This is a fantastic site, easy access, fab views and the most friendly and helpful owners we have ever encountered. We broke down whilst we were there and Tony and his wife gave us a lift to Beamish and picked us up! Saved the day. It’s a great location, easy to get to Beamish and shopping centres. Highly recommended! And thank you for the free range eggs.

Great Views, Friendly Owners

CL sites are so varied and interesting, this one is just the type we like, friendly owners, a lovely area, a great rural place to stay with an easy going approach to there visitors and plenty of attractions in the area. We hope to return again soon.

Very welcoming and helpful

Booking was very easy. This was our first visit to Old Bridge End CL. We arrived shortly after dark and the owners came out to assist us onto the site - very helpful. A box of fresh eggs from their chickens was very welcome. The site is as described with good TV reception, and easy to find. Water and electricity near at hand. We were lucky with good weather - always an asset when caravanning. We would definitely stay there again if visiting the surrounding area.

Great introduction to CL's

Although we have been motorhoming for eight years, we are new members to the Club as we spend most of our time abroad. Having been to the Durham Centre Rally in Sunderland for the Tall Ships, this was our first stay on a CL. All I can say is that if this is a typical CL we are in for a great time in the months to come. The welcome was friendly and eggs for breakfast and, despite a bit of a slope, it was easy to level up on the hardstanding down near the fence. A tranquil setting with a fabulous view and easy access to the excellent Durham Park and Ride. Why can't more cities provide sensible motorhome parking at their P&R? We also had a great day at the Beamish Museum and certainly would have stayed longer but for prior commitments. This CL has all the facilities you could need for a great stay and we thoroughly recommend it.

Very nice site near Durham

Having stayed at 2 very poor CL's beforehand, Old Bridge End was a huge relief. Quite a lot of slope in places, but ok if you are careful and there were some concret blocks on site to help level the caravan. Nice and quiet and the owners were very friendly and helpful and even gave us a few fresh laid eggs for breakfast! Recommended.

Great CL

We stayed here with our granddaughter for 7 nights from 31st July. As stated in other reviews this site is easy to get to and has a nice wide access to the field We had to park up by the hedge as the bottom three pitches were taken. This meant a bit of moving around to find a reasonable area to set up. We required a levelling pad on one side and blocks under the jockey wheel and corner steadies. A motor mover would have saved me a lot of pain here. One tap for fresh water at bottom of field. Decent toilet disposal point. Grey water can be disposed of in the hedge as you wouldn't be able to lift the hog to the disposal point. However once set up we were fine and had lovely views over the fields towards the hills. Owners very friendly and we were welcomed with a box of eggs courtesy of the farm hens. Loads of places to visit especially Beamish where you get 25% off with CAMC membership card. We also used the park and ride into Durham. Only 2 miles from site. A great location to stay for seeing the wonderful sites of Tyne and Wear.

Excellent site despite something of a slope!

We are leaving today after a week on site. Access to the site is very easy, the local road being of good width and surface. The entrance gateway is clearly marked and is a very wide gateway too. The site has hardstandings for three or four 'vans, all have electric hook-ups. The site is clean and tidy, with a dedicated enclosure for rubbish and we disposal. And a very good disposal point it is. Water pressure from the single fresh water tap is good. On arrival we were given a very warm welcome and presented with fresh eggs for breakfast. I have no hesitation recommending this site, but you do need to be aware that the site does have something of a slope, and you may need a levelling ramp and some packing pieces for the leg steadies. During our time here we visited Beamish (2 days), Durham Cathedral, Housteds and Vindolanda, the Darlington Rail Museum and Raby Castle. Not forgetting a day at the seaside at The lighthouse and Seahouses. We enjoyed our stay here and will certainly come again. Our thanks to Mr & Mrs Gallimore for a very splendid stay.
