A special site with a beautiful sight

Very remote but a beautiful spot. Aberdaron was very busy. Small, expensive Spar in the village- so take supplies with you. Not a very dog friendly area. Unfortunately we had some bad storms to endure while we were there. Decided to leave earlier because of the travelling time. 13 miles feels like 20 miles. £18,- per day is quite a price for this kind of site. Shower really can do with some tlc. You need many coins to wash your hair. We didn't use the toilet.

Superb location for walking and scenery

Stayed here 2 nights, such a beautiful and tranquil location, overlooking the sea off the north side of the peninsula. Great for walks, with the wales coastal path nearby and plenty of other routes to try. Fantastic scenery from mynydd anelog and mynydd mawr. This CL is a real gem, being within a short walking distance from the lovely village of aberdaron plus the beautiful cove beach of whistling sands. Pitches are level grass and well spaced out. Will be visiting again later in the year.

We'll be back

Many of the CLs that once existed around Aberdaron are now large commercial sites. This CL, like many in the area, has more than 5 pitches. There are 9 pitches. The most in use when we were there was 6. The CL is large enough to accommodate all the outfits. Access is straight forward if you follow the instructions. Don’t be tempted to approach from another direction because you won’t be able to turn into the site entrance. Each pitch has water tap, grey water grid and rubbish bin. Recycling is near the entrance. The CL is level. All pitches are grass. We stayed at the end of the season when there were some bald patches in the grass from use of awnings over the summer. We were able to site the van avoiding bare earth. We had rain (this is Wales after all) yet the ground remained firm. I can’t comment on the site’s toilet/shower because we only use our own facilities. Fabulous views in all directions. We pitched facing the Irish sea and could actually sea Ireland at times. We also had views the opposite direction of Snowdonia in the far distance. The CL sits on a network of minor country roads: great for cycling. A NCN route goes past the CL entrance. But it is walking the CL excels at. There’s a footpath less than 150 metres from the CL that leads to the Wales Coastal Footpath. From there about 25 minutes will get you to the top of Anelog mountain with views right the way down the Welsh coast to the south, to Anglesey to the north, Ireland to the west and Snowdonia to the east. CL sits on a junction. Roads are quiet and most of the traffic when we were there was agricultural. Aberdaron village and beach is 1.5 miles by road, which is a 25 minute walk along the country lanes, or you can take the coastal footpath right round the end of the headland (that would take some hours). What a beach. But if 1.5 miles is too far, then how about Whistling Sands at 1 mile in the opposite direction? Could there be a more perfect beach? Dog owners: 1 April to 30 September dogs are banned from Whistling Sands and part of Aberdaron beach. Several of the carparks in the area are run by the National Trust and are free to members: such as the carparks at Aberdaron and Whistling Sands. We’ll definitely be back.

wonderful site

This site is in an ideal position to sample the delights of the Llyn peninsular. It has excellent views and is close to the coastal paths and beaches, really tranquil and in a prime location. Your host Mrs Evans, what can I say, is always at hand and friendly and can offer advice on the area, my first trip here but not my last. Tip enter site via the Aberdaron rd and not the whistling sands road. Excellent site to walk from and to explore the area from.

Lovely site

Fabulous views from this site. You'll need a car to get to Aberdaron. The coast path is close by, as are the stunning beaches in the area. The facilities were clean, and having to walk across the lane and to the rear of the house was not a problem for us.

Great Value CL

This site is excellent if you want to be near to all the beaches on the tip of the Llynn Peninsular. We reccied this small site last year before we bought our caravan. It is a simple grass field with what I counted to be 9 pitches in total. The field is about an acre in size so the pitches are very well spread out even with a large twin axle, full awning and car parked side by side. None of you intrude on one another at all. Get this though, all the pitches are super pitches in that they all have 16amp EHU, fresh water tap and grey waste drains as well as excellent spacing. The field is noticeably flat so no levelling blocks were required and our pitch (No 4) had a second fresh water tap as well as the water hook up. All this cost only £15 per night. You only pay for the pitch so includes full size awning, child and two dogs. Great value for money. Most people place their vans nose in on the front fenced side of the field as it is true what the previous reviewer said, you get a good view of the sea and spectacular sunsets to your front from within your van if you so choose. Unfortunately for us, we arrived in the rain in our twin axle monster and being novices, I didn't trust our motor mover would cope with the task so I parked conventionally using our 4x4. We arrived on a Thursday and for the first two days had the whole site to ourselves which was excellent as our dogs could charge up and down the field and burn off energy. Mrs Evans is a lovely lady who welcomed us and could be seen throughout our two week stay labouring away and emptying your dustbins of rubbish. Each pitch has its own dustbin as well as the recycling area near the entrance. There is only one toilet which is literally an outside brick **it-house but was clean and functional although might be a little cold if you are winter caravanners. The shower is in another brick built affair right next to the toilet so again, might be a little urgent for winter use but the shower itself was excellent. This takes 20p pieces and gives you around 3 minutes a shot. I was able to shower and shampoo in lovely hot water for 40p but you can deffo shower all over for 20p. Both blocks are attached to the main farm house where Mrs Evans lives. We have been to this area of Wales every year now for 11 years but this was our first caravan trip and the weather was not as reliable as on previous years, we had quite strong winds (50mph) on a few nights and days which was a bottle test for novices like us. Storm Straps should be deployed on arrival so you don't get caught out. Make sure you take your own screw on tap adapters and hose extensions and get the proper yellow ones as the tap pressure is high and blew my cheap attachments off at first. Luckily I had an assortment of equipment so overcame this quickly. Finally, approach from the Aberdaron direction and not from Whistling Sands as you will never turn you vehicle and van in through the gate otherwise. From Aberdaron, you drive straight in.

My Favourite CL !

Much as I would like to keep this site to myself, I feel that it is only right to share! We have stayed here twice now and each time have had a fantastic time. The field is protected from the wind on three sides by hedges but has a fantastic view over the adjacent field, dropping down to the sea. The grass is kept well and the pitches drain easily after rain. There are recycling facilities on site, each pitch has its own tap and chemical disposal is tucked away nearby. The toilets and shower are at the back of the main farmhouse about 50m away. They are rustic but clean. The site is located a short walk from footpaths over fields, dropping down to a great little rocky cove for fishing and swimming. Aberdaron is only 5 mins by car, great little village! Going the other way, the fantastic Porth Oer or Whistling Sands is the same distance. I love this site!
