What a perfect holiday!

The site's "blurb" attracted us - we were looking for a quiet two weeks in nice surroundings. Travel north was so different from battling through Birmingham and we found a beautiful, mostly level field which, despite this "record wet" July showed no signs of becoming boggy, set on a loop of the river Forth. Not exactly "trout stream" - but certainly not a huge river! The fields around were thick with hay and wildlife abounded - including swifts, hares, bats and the occasional sighting of the resident Red Kite. And so quiet! A warm welcome from Irene - but we saw little of the family - they were working all daylight hours to get the grass cut and baled as haylage. And a Scottish July day is a long one! With doom and gloom weather forecasts, it was a triumph to return home with the proud boast that we didn't wear rain gear from beginning to end! And there was so much we could see and do within just a few miles. Stirling, Falkirk, Dunblane, Loch Katrine, Flanders Moss, Argoty Red Kites, Inchcolme Island are all to be recommended. Two positives: Over our 40 years of CL-visiting, the chemical disposal arrangements have varied from Club Site standard to the frankly disgusting. Matthew Steel's solution is elegant and practical - and gave me pleasure to use each time. Also, within a few miles there are not one but two excellent farm shops! One negative: The upcoming UCI World Championships time trial runs along the road. A good thing is that they have just resurfaced it. The bad side is that they kept closing the roads!

Birthday Weekend

Grassy field with hookup and the most beautiful scenery. Tight turn getting through the gate especially in a tag axle but we got there. Irene came to check we were OK when we arrived and again the next morning. Bit of a distance to the town of Kippen, 3 miles which you could walk but a lot of it is country road with no pavement. Would not stop us going there again and we will most certainly be back. Thxs Irene.

Nice and quiet

When we arrived at ‘Powblack Farm’; we turned onto the Farm drive but we couldn’t find anyone to speak to. We could see a caravan in the field directly opposite the farm, so went to explore. As we were exploring someone driving by stopped to speak to us (can only assume he was the owner) He told us that his son had cut the grass but only on one side of the site, there were bollards blocking entrance to the uncut section. He told us to move the bollards if we wanted, so we did, we didn’t want to encroach on the other caravan and there wasn’t much room by either side of them, (just because of how they had pitched up) so through the long grass it had to be. Anyway we chose a good spot and the grass was cut a few days later when we were out. We had a lovely stay there, very peacful. Read more about our stay at https://coltrimcaravanners.home.blog

A delightfully peaceful farm site

We booked Powblack Farm CL as a stopover on our journey home to Invernessshire from Garlieston CL in Galloway. It is a beautiful gem situated on the banks of the upper reaches of the River Forth. Here the river has more the appearance of a trout stream in southern England than a typical Scottish river. The views from the site are over a mixed farmland scene to the impressive Campsie Fells to the south. In an easterly direction the Wallace Monument can just be made in Stirling. We approached the site from M9 Junction 10 at Stirling. If approaching from the North (Trossachs or Perth) we recommend taking the A873 to Thornhill and B822 to the junction with the B8031 to reach the site. The B8031 is very narrow, winding and rough approaching the site from the A873. The short stretch from the B822 junction is good. The site directions from A811 on the club site are good. If you like quiet peaceful sites with a very rural setting this will not disappoint. There are local attractions within walking and cycling distance and the site is very central for access to various tourist locations in Stirling, Falkirk etc. The photos on site page do not do the site justice but do give a flavour of the rural nature. The views South from the site over pastures to the Campsie Fells is a delight.
