Ease of arrival/welcome

In a nice location, but..

First the good points, a most peaceful location overlooking a valley, sheep grazing in a field below. Occasional visits from wild deer. Great regular buses in the area number 40 between Swanage and Poole. A 30 bus service also operates on the lower main road in the summer apparently. All 5 pitches on the CL with EHU on hard standing with mowed grass in between for awnings. However I’m afraid this CL fell short of our expectations, firstly there is no CL signage from the narrow lane other than the farm name. We weren’t sure we were even at the right place as we drove down the beaten track, in fact one of the early signs on the track states no visitors, it was only when you finally get to the CL field there was a sign. The CL is just on the lane up above the C&MH site. The toilet facilities were closed up and unavailable but looked to be very basic. A washing pots area in one of the outhouses seemed to have a meter for hot water. The surrounding fields looked to be available for camping so guess it could be very busy in high season. There is a single water tap at the entrance to the CL field. Elson emptying is down an open uncovered pipe in a separate camping field. No recycling facility. At £21 a night we thought this was expensive for what it is. With some investment however this could make a good CL. A word of warning if you are in your motorhome and plan to walk to use the bus service it is a very steep climb up the narrow lane to the top road but good exercise.

We're on the camping field because the CL is fully booked up. Overall it is a great little site with basic facilities - toilets and showers now open. We're here for the BH weekend and beyond and the site is quiet with only a few units. They're not taking tents in 2021 and a minimum five night stay discourages the young partygoers from trying to stay here. We've paid as little as £4 a night for CLs but don't mind the £21 Inc electricity as Purbeck is a honeypot location and normally very busy in season.

Yes, there's no CL sign but the farm sign is big and yellow so you can't miss the entrance. Just before the farm house there's a clear sign directing CL visitors straight on to the field.

If you love walking then it's a couple of miles walk to get on the coastal path. Yes it's a hilly area but your reward for the climbs up are some fantastic views. If you have mountain bikes then there's a great network of local bridleways to explore too.

We'd give this site five stars as it's a quiet hidden gem in what is normally a busy area. We don't mind basic facilities though.

Lionel, the owner is pleasant and welcoming.
