Perfect CL

Having booked Severals CL for the August Bank Holiday weekend, we ended up staying a further two days because we just loved it there! So relaxed. The location is stunning, local places to visit, the welcome was warm, the site spacious, the rural location peaceful and all within a 15 minute walk of the newly refurbished pub! Facilities basic but available if you need them and remember you are staying on a CL not a club site so were all extras as far as we were concerned!! Agree that WiFi to the pitches would be nice but not crucial. Cannot recommend this CL enough, perfect!

So peaceful

Lovely location and very clean facilities. Staying for two nights but could easily stay longer and just chill out. We do geocaching and lots in the area to walk too. The village is beautiful with lots of thatch cottages and unusually marked cob walks. Pub, although looks great, is shut as serious fire earlier in the year. On course to open October. Micheal responds very quickly and sent us useful information by email. Definitely recommend this site.

Just what I expect from a CL

We chose this site as we were going to a concert at Audley End. We stayed for 3 nights. It’s a great location for walking, cycling and local attractions. Audley end house (English Heritage) is c3 miles away and well worth a visit. Saffron Waldon is a lovely market town and the Pizzas at Audley end station are excellent. The local pub was closed for rebuilding but is due to reopen shortly. We will definitely be back for another visit.

One night stay to break up journey

This was a convenient location for us to stop on our journey north. The owner came to say hello and was very friendly. The facilities (toilet, kitchen, black waste) were basic. I don’t mind basic if the price reflects the facilities but for £25 we have stayed at locations with much more for our pennies!

Lovely site for dry conditions

Considering how close the site is to the M11 and Stansted Airport, it's incredibly quiet with just a bit of aircraft noise in the evening. Each pitch has EHU and water tap, with grey waste going straight into the hedge. The only problem we had was the mud. We visited at the end of March, when the area had seen quite a lot of rain. Pitches are hardstanding, but access from the drive is across sloping grass. The owner has put some mesh under the grass with small white markers to show where the edges are, but our 2 wheel drive car struggled even after we'd unhooked the van. Thankfully Michael and his 4x4 were on hand to get us pitched. Being on the Essex/Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire borders, there is plenty to do in the area & we found some lovely footpaths to walk. Highly recommend the Thai food at Ananta (former Coach & Horses pub) in the next village. We would be happy to return, but only after a sustained spell of dry weather!

Cycling, Geocaching, Peace and Quiet.

I stayed for 5 nights at this very peaceful CL during August 2021 in a large 8.5 metre motorhome. Access to the site is nice and easy up a lovely tree lined drive with an electric gate at the top for added security. When I arrived there was only one other unit on site (coincidentally I knew the couple!). I chose pitch 1 which was wide enough and long enough for my motorhome and very level. Not sure I would want to be on either pitches 4 or 5 as they are quite a bit smaller and on a slope. Nicely sheltered from the wind by the hedge, there is plenty of space either side of the pitches for tables, chairs, awnings etc. The site is clean and tidy with well cut grass. I received a warm welcome from the owner, Michael, who told me of some local eateries, walks and cycle routes. I cycled, (and geocached) for miles every day, through quiet country lanes and quaint villages. A very quiet site, no road noise, just the occasional plane going over, but I barely noticed them. I happily whiled away an hour or two, sat in the sun watching Kites and Buzzards soaring overhead and Partridges trotting through the site. I had a lovely evening meal at the nearby Axe and Compass pub (not dog friendly inside unfortunately) but plenty of outdoor seating, much of it covered, where dogs can probably go. I didn’t use any of the on-site facilities such as the kitchen or loo, so can’t comment on those, it’s a shame the wifi can’t be extended for use on the pitches and not just the kitchen area. At £20 per night, it is more than I would usually pay, and I would expect more facilities for that price (wifi at the pitches, shower/toilet block), but the location and tranquility was worth it for me. I would definitely revisit Severals CL and recommend it for a quite stay.

reiterate earlier reviews

just had a week there and was well chuffed. lovely drive up to the site,,,,but beware the cattle grid halfway up, i didn't see it for looking at the trees. quiet as you like except for 9 to 10 at night when planes seem to aim for the site overhead...but only then. strange, but it was no matter, i would heartily recommend this site.

Peaceful autumn stay

We stayed for a long weekend at the end of October/early Nov. In common with many older folk we are staying on CLs rather late in the year using our Covid secure accommodation. The hard standings are fully serviced and the larger ones particulalry useful for keeping footwear clean. The site is on a bit of a slope and was somewhat chewed up by people staying late in the season like us! But the hard standings themselves are nice and level The owner Michael was very welcoming and is intending to lay some matting to aid access to the hard standings. He was very helpful when we needed to be flexible over departure date. We did get a little disturbed by some Stansted (we assume) night flights but it wasn't a major problem. Toilets and wifi in the barn kitchen really useful too.

Relaxing getaway

We have just returned from a couple of nights at this CL, having experienced a relaxing short-break on the borders of Herts, Essex & Cambs. The all-hardstanding pitches are almost perfectly level, so no messing with levelling blocks - what a bonus ! The availability of mains electric & water on each pitch is a real bonus. We were the only unit on the field for the 2 days we were there, so it is difficult to comment on the size of the pitches. Although previous reviews have said that they are too close, my impression was that they were no closer than the Club site at Ashridge Farm, where we store our van. The owner, Michael Payne, was very welcoming and gave us useful local information (takeaway fish & chips on Tuesday evening from the Axe & Compass for £6.50 - delicious !) We have taken to trying to have a 2-night getaway every month in our caravan, since joining the Club just over 12 months ago. In this time, I have favoured CL's rather than Club or Commercial sites for their peace & tranquility. At a distance of less than 20 miles from the storage facility this was a real gem. Whilst it is one of the more expensive CL's we have visited so far, our view is the avoidance of regular refilling of Aquarolls because of the mains water, is worth the minimal cost ! If you are a particularly light-sleeper, the flight path from Stanstead, if they are taking off to the west, may cause you a slight problem. For those of us well used to living near to airports, it was hardly noticeable. If you stay on Tuesday, Saffron Walden market is wort a visit - not the biggest outdoor market, but the town dates back to the 1100's and is very quaint. Access into & out of the farm is via an electric gate which should sense your vehicle appraoching . . . . . . if it doesn't and refuses to open, then . . . . . go to the faded red switch in the yellow housing on the side of the gates nearest to the barns & inside the farm and . . . . turn it off & on again. This classic electrical-device-fix worked perfectly for us !! A lovely area to visit with lots of delightful villages and thatched cottages - will definitely return.

A great base

We loved this site. Took our 2 dogs, footpaths easily accessible. Electric and water serviced. A beautiful rolling landscape countryside all around. We went on a footpath walk, free map provided on site. We have had to buy at other sites! Very welcoming owner, who helped us leave when our mover wouldn't work! Can recommend walking at Audley End. Arkesden is pretty and is only a very short walk from site. Saffron Walden market on a Saturday is a must. Best market around. We will certainly be back. :-)
