Magical Woodland Stay

Stayed on this lovely gem of a site for 5 nights, will certainly be returning and would highly recommend. Beautiful location in Kent, on the outskirts of the village of Smarden near Ashford. A warm and friendly welcome from lovely hosts Angela & Russell. On arrival we were provided with a super helpful map of the local area which we made use of. Enjoyed a great little walk into the village along the lane. The woodland provides spacious grass pitches, which you can choose where to pitch up. On this occasion we were guided to the driest area in view of the recent continuous rainfall. Lucky for us we had the woodland to ourselves for our entire stay. All the usual basics you expect from a CL, very well maintained. Security of gate to woodland. Well mown grass, pretty bluebells and some areas amongst the trees left wild which is great to see and gave the woodland a magical feel. Peaceful site despite the location being on the corner of 2 quiet lanes. The loudest sounds we experienced was waking up to beautiful bird song! Easy access from the M20, excellent directions provided from Angela were spot on. Perfect location for exploring Castles, Cathedrals, Coast, Vineyards and some TV locations. Thoroughly enjoyed trips to Battle Abbey & Rye approx 45mins away. Dover Castle very interesting, especially the secret war tunnels which are well worth a visit. Lots of fabulous vineyards nearby and can highly recommend Biddenden Vineyard & Woodchurch Vineyard. Lovely day out to Canterbury (approx 35mins) visited the impressive cathedral and walk along the river before heading to Whitstable. A lovely traditional fisherman town with a cute harbour, full of charm & delicious seafood. Thank you for a fabulous stay!

Excellent site

Just spent four nights at this relatively new site ,the owners have made an excellent job of layout and access..within easy walking distance of the pretty village of Smarden, with two pubs,a community shop and butcher.a large on site dog walk or various public footpaths one of which takes you to the village .access to water, waste disposal and electricity is easy and also the choice of no hook up at reduced rate which we tried and had no problem lasting the four days with solar power .perhaps other sites should try it.Will certainly recommend and return

Short stay away

Russell and Angela, who were very friendly, have created a lovely site nestled in a lovely wood but with space to spare. EHU and water in easy reach of the caravan and waste a short walk. Electric was reliable with no problems, if you want TV signal isn’t great, for us not a problem, although found the nearest transmitter was to the West which gave a good selection of channels. Nicely mown grass pitches which were dry and level. There were 5 vans on site but didn’t feel too close. Nice to see that there are well kept areas left wild to give that natural feeling rather than simply an open field The 2 furthest plots against the perimeter seem to get the best of the sun in the evening but we saw the sun in the day and then in the evening simply had to move our seats, a wind break may help keep any wind chill down. Whilst the road is relatively close this didn’t bother us as it is fairly quiet and not the main road into Smarden. Short walk into Smarden which has 2 lovely pubs, The Chequers has a lovely garden and we ate at the Flying Horse which is just behind the lovely church, both recommended. Headcorn only a few miles away has a Sainsbury’s Local. If looking for fishing, Sam’s Lakes is a short drive and offers 2 large lakes. Overall a very nice site which we would visit again and would recommend.

Top CL!

We stayed at lovely Spears Ash Wood 19-20 May and it was the perfect weekend away. As others say, Angela is a great host, good communication and very helpful with any questions. Easy to access (we recommend you route M20-Charing-Pluckley-Smarden as the best / less stressy Motorhome route, avoiding the more narrower roads). The site is well laid out, peaceful, relaxing, very scenic and once you’ve set up, there’s always a 15/20 leisurely minute stroll awaiting to fab pubs - the Bell and the Flying Horse are excellent, great beers and good food. Kent villages like Smarden are a delight and seemingly a world away from the outside world. For aviation enthusiasts the signs and sound of Headcorn aerodrome flights above and over is another delight. We heard and saw the local Spitfire too 😀 Thank you Angela and Russell. We will be back - enough said!

Lovely site, lovely owners

We stayed here for two days last weekend. The owners were very pleasant and welcoming and provided a very useful map for the village. The pitches are generously spaced and all have a nice outlook. just the type of site if you like countryside walks, pubs, accessibility to a village and peace and quiet. The pricing is pitched just right and the facilities are exactly what you would expect for a CL. We and the dogs loved it and would definitely come back.

Excellent site

Very welcoming owners Russell and Angela, who are happy to help with all local knowledge of good pubs, shops ect. We stayed after crossing back from the euro tunnel. Easy drive from tunnel and great site to spend a few days relaxing in the lovely large wooded area with our two schnauzers. Location is opposite Phipps Motors. We have already booked another two nights stay for our next Euro tunnel crossing!

Overnight stay before Eurotunnel crossing

We stayed for 1 night prior to going to France on the Eurotunnel. Wonderful welcome from Angela, on arrival. Everything that you'd expect from a CL, in a great location. Lovely Kent countryside and Smarden is an interesting little town/village. We would definitely like to visit for a longer stay. Very convenient for access to Channel Tunnel and ferries. A great little CL.

Lovely CL

We spent 3 nights at this lovely CL. The location is beautiful, surrounded by trees. We watched the planes flying overhead in and out of Headcorn. The site is ideally located with a short walk into the village where there are a couple of pubs and a great village shop. We also walked the other way up to the pub in Smarden Bell. Everything you need is within walking distance. The communication with Angela was great and she gave us a warm welcome on arrival and told us about the local pubs and shops. We will look forward to returning to this wonderful CL.

Quiet, restful and tranquil with great local amenities

A lovely certified site. Quiet and relaxing. Great local amenities within walking distance. Watch the Spitfires overhead and the other local planes with brave people parachuting. You must visit the local shop and try the local produce. Really nice traditional pubs within walking distance. A warm welcome from Angela and Russell. A lovely Kent village. We will definitely be returning.
