Disappointment.

Access to the site is not easy as the gate is narrow coming off a narrow road. TV signal was not good and even our satellite dish could not get reception. There was no power to the electric hook-up point on arrival with no access to reset the breaker as it was in a locked cupboard. The site owners were out until mid-evening and there was no means of contacting them for help. There is a large joinery workshop to one side and a fencing company to the other, both making noise throughout the day. There were also very noisy building works ongoing on an adjacent plot, with an excavator working from 7am. When is an awning not an awning? We were charged an extra £3/night for having our motorhome canopy wound out!! Needless to say, we moved on.

Just what we needed

My husband and I and our 3 children stayed at Stoney Croft House for a week. Barbara left very clear instructions on where to park up with a map of the site and amenities. It's hard to believe how close to Preston you are, it felt very peaceful even if you do hear the odd ambulance on the main road. We visited Farington Moss which is a short walk away. The toilet/shower is clean and close to the pitches. The owners are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, we would definitely stay again if we're in the area.

Very welcoming

We used this CL for one night as we were passing through. Very nice pitches and lovely shower room which were welcome after a day of travelling. The road nearby is a bit noisy but the site itself is very peaceful. We went to Cuerden Hall park for a lovely dog walk, extraordinary bit of unspoilt parkland with the busy motorways on its fringes. We walked 25 minutes in the evening to reach the Farmers Arms, but I am not sure I would recommend as it was noisy in the bar area where we had to sit with the dog. Food was ok. CL owner was very helpful and attentive.

Great stopover or short break

Entrance a little tight. Hosts superb. Pitches random. Facilities spot on. Great nearby dog walk. Short walk to Lostock Hall for most things you'll need. Pleasant walk to Preston on old railway line. Outstanding Mill Cafe half way to M6. We will be back.

Good short stay

Was in the area giving talks to local camera clubs so booked in to this very good CL. Good to have hardstanding pitches so no problems getting on or off the pitch. Did a lot of Geocaching from the site and apart from one local farmer who has put a electric fence over a public footpath all was great. Had a lunch in the Farmers Arms not too far away and that was good value. Bus service looked ok with a bus about every hour to Preston. Some early morning noise from local factory but did not spoil a good nights sleep. Will use again very soon . Many thanks.

Lovely Spring BH Weekend

Just had really nice chilled out 3 days at Stoneycroft CL. The was something new to us as a family (2 adults, baby and dog) as we have never stayed on a CL as we usually go to CC sites or Affiliate Sites but thought we'd try something different - and we will be doing it again. This was only 20 miles from us so a short journey and we arrived wondering what it would be like being so close to Preston. We were pleasantly surprised as we arrived at the picturesque location off the main road. We have a twin axle van and turning into the driveway was a squeeze but on the third attempt I got through ok. Barbara came out to help us and to assure us a twin axle would get through the gap. She then showed us the site, where she would like us to pitch, where the water/waste and shower room were. Lovely lady. The shower takes a 50p piece for the meter but not sure how long this lasts as I was in a good 15 minutes and it was still going strong. The shower room has a toilet, sink and large shower at the end and is all very clean.

The field is split into 2 with the CL taking up half an acre approx with a further little field at the end fenced off although I walked the dog through this field everyday with no issues. We found the site very quiet and peaceful and the greenery made it feel like it could be anywhere (not 20 miles from home). We have 2 lovely days and did 2 walks from the http://www.lancashirewalks.com/ website. The first one was http://www.lancashirewalks.com/page54.htm and was a 3 mile drive from the site and the second was http://www.lancashirewalks.com/TarletonArchive.PDF. Both were nice walks however the first walk from Longton involved a lot of stiles and Public Footpaths not frequently used so were quite overgrown. Really enjoyed the break, enjoyed the CL way of life - peaceful, dog on a 30ft lead with nobody anywhere near that distance close by, chilled out dog and family.

Would recommend if looking for a CL in the area.

lovely peaceful bank holiday weekend.

just had a lovely relaxing weekend at this first class site, this will definitely be the first of many, already booked to go back in 2 weeks, barbara and hubby make you feel so welcome, without being intrusive, there to help if you need them, the upkeep of the site and garden is definitely their priority, as it was immaculate, the shower and toilet block is spotless and nice and warm. our two little dogs had a fantastic time playing ball in the adjacent field, looking forward to our return.
