Beware about booking here!

Booked at this site for a mid-week stopover for one night a week ahead, and were required to pay in full in advance, which we did. Arrived mid afternoon after a good long walk in the surrounding, beautiful countryside to be told that they didn't have a space after all because they had made a mistake with the booking - despite there being a vacant pitch when we arrived. (They said they had tried to ring us to let us know, but when we got home later in the week, there was no message on our answering machine). Apart from all the hassle of having to find somewhere else to stay at short notice after a tiring day, we also had to forego the evening meal there as we had also booked a table. We have never had such a 'booking problem' in all the years we have been using CLs, so a real disappointment that a commercially-run CL has problems administering it's 5 pitches. So - just beware that even when you pay in full, in advance, you cannot guarantee that there will actually be a pitch for you here when you arrive.

Fantastic site

Welcoming, easy to find and well laid out pitches with easy access to hook up and water. Great pub with truly excellent food and with 10% off the prices are very good. Walking and cycling are a real pleasure with a disused railway track within easy distance. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and we will return.

A gem of a CL

Just spent two nights at this delightful CL, really wished we could have stayed longer. Andrew, the owner of the Crown and his team couldn't have been more welcoming. The CL was easy to find, has mains water and hookup on each of the individual spacious, hard standing pitches and has wonderful views across the surrounding hills. The pub serves amazing, contemporary cuisine prepared by Andrew and his team and great local ales. Although it's a long way from Bournemouth we will definitely be back.

worth it ..........yes!

ok so £15 per unit is attop end of CL price range but we had no difficulty with that. The pitches are all serviced and pan flat and also about 100 yds. from pub so no noise issues. The facilities are excellent but may come under pressur if site full as only one unit with shower *( which we did not test) loo and basin but all this scrupulously clean. You also get 10% off food in pub which is well priced to begin with. Pub has a nice welcoming feel and thsi is one site we will definitely revisit. Well placed for walks/cycling along the old railway line which gives an off road way on foot to Middleton in Teesdale
