Great little CL site

Perfect for our one night stopover. Excellent communication before we arrived and a friendly welcome. Water, electricity, grey water waste, toilet waste disposal. No toilets or showers but excellent Wi-Fi. A lovely peaceful setting with spacious pitches. Would use again.

Fabulous CL!

We spent a week here at the beginning of August and absolutely loved every minute of it! Rob & Angelique are wonderful hosts, sending us a map of the site showing our pitch, providing an overview SMS a couple of days before arrival, greeting us on arrival and seeing us off on our (reluctant) departure. Don't think we've ever encountered such hospitality! All the pitches are fully serviced with lovely views of the surrounding hills and mountains and, weather permitting, wonderful sunsets. We were told by Angelique that there's no TV signal but that doesn't bother us as we mostly stream anyway - the compensation for the lack of TV signal was the best Wi-Fi we've ever had on a site, easily good enough to stream which was a real bonus. The surrounding areas is beautiful with numerous drives available - a lot of single track roads but clearly marked passing places makes it easy to get around. Inverness is only around 15-20 minutes away and has all the facilities you'd expect of a large town. We were blessed with wonderful weather which made our holiday such a joy and has renewed our love for Scotland so we will most definitely return - when we do so, The Steadings will be at the top of our list of CLs to book... Many thanks for such a wonderful stay, Rob & Angelique!

A peaceful week of stunning scenery and wildlife - and with great facilities

We stayed for a week in a caravan and loved this site. Beautiful scenery, and we saw hares, eagles, red kites and redstarts among others from the site. Saw many more eagles in the surrounding countryside too. Also Slavonian Grebes and lesser redpolls just a short walk away at Loch Ruthven RSPB. I was surprised at how beautiful this area is with small craggy hills and lochs popping up everywhere, as well as lovely mixed woodland. The communication before arrival was so helpful. Rob and Angelique are perfect hosts. The facilities are well above average with fast free Wi-Fi, water and grey water at each hardstanding pitch. Chemical disposal point clean and easy to use with a tap and pipe for rinsing. Inverness is close by for all the supplies you need, and there is a small shop closer for bits and bobs. Access to the site was easy. We can’t wait to come back :)

Little gem

A lovely site off the beaten track. Fully serviced pitched. Friendly owners. It was a stop over before we were going to join the NC500. Stayed here 2 nights. Lovely biking area. Loch Ness nearby. Lovely views and quiet. Highly recommended. Our outfit is 8.5m long and didn't have an issue, just tight parking. Picnick table at every pitch which is a nice touch.

Beautiful and peaceful

Spent three days on this site which although we went sailing past as looking for hotel sign the large Steadings sign was a massive clue! The site has superb views, only noise was the local bird life my only negative was the pitches are small for the larger modern caravan but they have electric and water to every pitch. Local WiFi is great which is a good job if you want tv, make sure you have a streaming device as no other way to watch anything. The owners were around If you needed them and came to make sure you were ok on arrival. Ideally situated for Loch Ness, Inverness and Culloden

Stunning spot for a CL although layout not ideal for some.

This CL is easy to find as the old hotel is shown on Google maps and there is a large stag statue just beyond the gates. The gates are not positioned far enough away from the road for a towing vehicle to clear the road, so if they are closed one has to pull up short, but the road is very quiet so this isn't an issue. Acces to the pitches was OK when we stayed, although the access to the lower terrace via the left side of the pitches is too steep and rough to get a caravan down safely (perhaps it is this mentioned in other reviews). With a 13m combination and a non working mover, getting onto pitch 1 (the biggest pitch, which we were allocated) was tricky and the other pitches were small, so if erecting an awning, your vehicle would have to be parked off pitch. They are ideal for camper vans and all but largest MH though. Our we!come was fine, it's obvious where everything is, so we didn't need any help really and had paid by BACS prior to arrival, so it was a quick hello and told to call the owner if we had any issues. The hotel and restaurant are permanently closed, so there is nothing else at the site currently, although there are clearly changes being made to the building. The best thing about this site is the location and views, the gardens around are full of bird life with whimbrels, lapwings & red kites etc aroud, deer on the hills, cuckoo's calling and a stunning view all around. RSPB reserve at Ruthven is well worth a visit, home to the rare Slavonian Grebe and a lovely place. Loads to do in the area, we walked around Foyers falls, visited Culloden and Fort Henry and Inverness is a major centre with all shops etc. A site we would very happily go to again, but maybe not for everyone, especially if you want to put up a large awning.

Disappointed

The arrival sign upon arrival was obscured by bins, therefore as with the majority of CL's we opted for a pitch that seemed suitable,on the Upper level as the steep and narrow slope to the lower level and pitch layouts didn't appear ideal. ⁰ The manager Angelique hurried out with a checklist and instructed us to move to the lower level and said they were all allocated. Unusual we thought for a CL, but we could hardly argue. Her manner was unfriendly and brusque, no welcome in sight. We stayed for 3 nights and the plot we wanted remained empty throughout. The pitch is hard with small grit and a very narrow raised grass verge separating between pitches, so we were unable to erect our awning (which is ideal for the dogs). Anyway after many attempts we pitched (tiny turning circle made it very tricky). On the plus side, the hotel grounds are lovely and the restaurant is magnificent. Superb chef, the best thing about the place. After our meal we sat in the bar lounge, along with other guests and all we could hear were local farmers seriously swearing. We're not prudes by any means but after spending £160 on a meal and drinks we expected something more pleasant. Its a shame Angelique is not as bossy with the local drinkers. That said the building is decorated beautifully and it felt luxurious up to that point. On leaving our van scraped the ground on the steep slope and stabilising feet fell off. We went to find Angelique to mention this and her response was that nobody else has complained and we should have asked for the pitch we wanted. We did ask, and were told they were allocated. Other People on site said they were also told the same regarding allocation. Her response was unprofessional and argumentative. I hope there is no more damage to the underside of the van, which we won't know until we get it checked when we return home. Safe to say we won't be returning and have only written this to encourage the CAMC to inspect the pitches again, as it is not safe.

Good cl site with excellent views.

We were met by Rob upon arrival and were shown all the necessary facilities. Site is on 2 levels and we were on the lower level giving lovely views over surrounding meadowland with hills in the background. No problem with any undue noise from nearby road. Lovely adjacent hotel serving the most amazing food. This is a ‘must not miss’ Can honestly say that we have not experienced better quality meals anywhere. Many thanks to the other Rob (Chef). Thank you Angelique & Rob for a lovely stay.

Very nice but…

This is a well kept site but sadly the hotel was closed while we were there. We were looking forward to eating nbyhe hotel as it was highly recommended but with it being closed it took the edge of our visit. Very nice walk to RSPB loch but not much else to do.

A lovely little site

Sadly, we could only spend one night here but how we enjoyed our stay! The site is on the side of the hotel/restaurant. It’s compact but the pitches are a good size. They are gravelled hardstanding and each pitch has EHU, water and grey waste but the piece de resistance is the restaurant. Not the cheapest place you will ever eat but the food and service was fabulous. And after your meal, sit soft in the sofas and easy chairs in the lounge. Thank you Angelique and team!
