Ease of arrival/welcome

Initially Crowded

This is a truly beautiful spot as detailed in the other reviews however there were some serious drawbacks during our week which are worth considering before booking this site. Firstly, when we arrived we found a combination padlock on the gate which we had not been told about and we therefore did not have the code. Luckily there were other club members on site who were able to give us the code; had there not been anyone there we would have been well and truly stuck, completely blocking the very narrow lane with absolutely no hope of reversing or turning around. To compound this the only phone number for the site kept going to answerphone. I understand that this padlock is a recent addition following an incident of fly tipping however, the fact that we were not contacted and informed of the code shows a lack of organisation and poor communication. Secondly, on arrival we found 5 caravans already on site, one of which was permanently pitched for the season but unoccupied at the time; we were told that the owners come and go regularly and indeed they arrived 2 days before we departed. So, we were the 6th van and our friends were 10 minutes behind us in the 7th! This is not a big site and due to the undulating nature of the ground, places that you can actually pitch are limited, especially if you have an awning. That said, there are numerous hookup points so without an awning and with a bit of imagination there are quite a few options. To compound this, one of the potential pitches had a very active beehive right next to it, although we were told that this was temporary. It took a lot of thinking and negotiating with the people already there to find 2 more pitches but this did result in 4 vans very close together which is not necessarily what you want when you go to a CL. As it was, we couldn’t find a pitch that was suitable for the awning so ended up siting our van temporarily and then moved it the following day when someone left. Thirdly, do take note of the recommended maximum length of 6.5m. The approach road is very narrow and has several very tight turns. We have a Challenger 480 and only just made it round some of these bends. Anything longer and you may find yourself having to “shunt” round these corners. Also, the hedges had not been cut and consequently we ended up with numerous light scratches down the side of both car and van, so probably not for you if you have a new outfit.
