Lovely area with a Pub close by

We stayed here recently. We booked last minute and were told upon booking our last night would be on an overflow pitch which we agreed to, this was our downfall. We have had this before and we’d been moved to another pitch either away from the other 5 CL spaces or to a 6th lesser used CL pitch. The CL is lovely and new with big pitches and a lovely open view. The main campsite has lots of seasonal pitches and was full and busy when we were there. It has a nice view to cows and farmland and two spotless toilets with showers. The showers are £1. After booking the CL we arrived to find the CL full and main campsite with one space, which we found we were booked on to. The overflow pitch was a parking space, outside the toilets rather than a pitch. We wouldn’t return as we always want a guaranteed CL pitch rather than being on a busier campsite but I wouldn’t be put off going if it’s in the right area for you. Just be aware you may end up on the main campsite rather than the CL and the overflow pitch isn’t a pitch but a parking space if you are offered this. Just a note - their prices have increased to £18 from the advertised £15.

Peaceful and tranquil

This was our first ever trip away in our caravan which we had purchased the week before. We have family in the area so decided that this would be our best first trial outing. Communication with the owner on booking was very good. on arrival we were pleasantly surprised with how clean and tidy the site was as well as having good pitches. We haven’t been away in a touring caravan before but we were delighted with Upper Farm as soon as we pulled up. The on-site amenities are great. The toilet and shower are very clean and well maintained. As are the grounds. We had our dogs with us so it was great to have somewhere to walk them. It is on a working Farm but this In no way interfered with our enjoyment of the weekend.we found it quiet and peaceful with some lovely views from the fields. We are both from the country so enjoyed hearing the sounds round and about. If you want a small site that is quiet and peaceful with welcoming hosts this is a definite must.we have already rebooked to return again.

Convenient site with a local pub

We stayed here for 2 nights in Sept 2020. It is a quiet location although next to a working farm so, as you would expect, some tractor movement. The toilet and washroom (Shower in a wetroom) were exceptionally good and the whole site is well cared for and we didn't have any problems with dogs as reported by another reviewer. The pub (Royal Oak) is 20 mins walk away along a very quiet road and does good food- you will need to book as it is popular. There are some caravans in storage here, but very few are occupied and didn't affect our enjoyment of the site.

fantastic CL-shame about the dog owners

we stayed here with friends for a week recently. We were blessed with fantastic weather which made it wonderful as the setting of the CL is lovely with surrounding fields and beautiful scenery. There are wonderful walks and cycle routes to follow and Church Stretton is nearby. We also discovered a free tennis court next to village hall In Rushbury which we used several times. The CL is flat with hard standing, and the taps to fill up are close by the pitches. There is a friendly welcome from the owners who keep the site well mown and the shower and toilet block spotless. There are some narrow lanes to navigate to reach the site and generally these were quiet. We were unfortunate to meet a huge feed lorry on our journey in, which necessitated both motorhomes reversing into a field, however we accept that this is part and parcel of driving in a rural area where lorries have to visit farms. The nearby pub ( The Royal Oak) in Cardington does lovely food and we would highly recommend that. The two issues which prevented us giving this CL 5 stars was the phone/internet signal which could only be picked up at a few spots on the field, and some dog owners not picking up after their dogs which as a dog owner myself I find quite disgusting. When we came to pack up and leave we found that a dog from one of the seasonal vans (there are about 10-12) had poohed right on our electric cable. It was clear that this probably happened over several nights, and is totally unacceptable. Just because you can't see your dog poohing in the dark doesn't mean it isn't. This isn't a job for the CL owner it should be drummed into the dog owners that they will be asked to leave if they allow this to happen and do not clear up. There is no excuse. Having said that, this is definitely a CL we will return to due to its location and facilities.

Very friendly and lovely location

We booked this site, staying on the CL, for Easter weekend. Fred was able to fit us in despite his having to get an electrician last minute to finish the hook-up. The site is connected to decent roads via a choice of narrow lanes but none were busy or too long. There are two very smart toilet/shower/wash rooms on the main site which we were able to use as well. We met up with the farmer (Fred) and some regular campers on the Saturday evening for a very sociable drink together – something which I have to admit we normally avoid! However, the company was very friendly with just three pitches on the CL at present. We certainly look forward to returning some time to stay on this working farm.

Upper Farm Gretton Shropshire July 2018

A super week enhanced by wonderful weather. This was our 29th year visiting the immediate area but our first visit to this site. There were several seasonal pitches further along the communal track but these did not affect the 5 CL pitches which all had hard standings and additional grass to the side and were spacious and easy to access. All caravans had the same view across the field. The residents of the seasonal caravans made you feel welcome and were helpful. We support the positive reviews included here. The friendly owners, farmhouse 100 yards up the road on the way to the site have gone out of their way to make this a very pleasant site. A toilet block far in excess of anything we have previously experienced on a CL- wet room standard, toilet, shower and wash basins made our stay even more enjoyable. With respect we remind visitors that this is a very rural area with working farms and narrow lanes. Will definitely visit again.

Beautiful spot

Upper Farm is a quiet and peaceful site set in beautiful surroundings. The Rogers family are extremely friendly and keep the site in great order and the toilet and shower facilities are immaculate. The site is ideally placed for access to excellent walking in Carding Mill Valley, Long Mynd and surrounding area and there are delightful shops in the nearby lovely towns of Church Stretton, Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury. Within easy reach there are three coarse fishing lakes and plenty of wildlife to be seen with Red Kites often over the site. There are several good local pubs in the area with the Royal Oak in Cardington being just a short stroll away. I would definitely recommend this beautiful spot.

weekend break

This site is lovely and peaceful. Toilet block immaculate. People on site very friendly as was the owner Mrs Rogers. The narrow road up to site was a bit scary when cars came opposite way. We could not see sign to site so we went passed it and had to phone owner which was difficult turning round in a junction. We found sign on a post which I think it needs to go on sign in road. We will go again.

Sorry but not for us

We stayed here in November and after a bad journey arrived in the dark, there was no caravan and motorhome sign to be seen only a sign saying Upper Farm Camping Site and lots of caravans so we thought we were in the wrong place, I 'phoned the Rogers three times and got no answer. We looked around in the dark for 20 mins and then my husband went to the farm nearby (which we couldn't see at first as it was dark) and we were told we were in the right place and the cl didn't have hard standing which we had booked so we parked up amongst all the caravans and decided to look round in the morning. The cl is opposite and is very small and can only take two units. I can see this place might appeal to some people but sadly not us. We have two large dogs and the lane to get in and out of was really muddy all the time we were there from the all farm vehicles, we have a shower for the dogs which we use but have never had to use it every day so this wasn't enjoyable for us or the dogs, the farmer was cutting the hedges so that made it a no go area re one of the dogs getting a thorn embedded in his paw, we had to walk the bikes along so as not to get a puncture. I think it is very misleading advertising hard standing when in fact you are not staying on a cl at all you are with many static caravans. We saw Mr Rogers a couple of times and he waved but other than that no one bothered us which we like, OH dropped the money off to Mrs Rogers who was very business like. We cycled to Church Stretton a few times, lovely tea room called Beryl's down a small alley which did lovely snacks and cakes, caught the train to various places including Ludlow which we really like, we ate in a fantastic vegetarian place, sorry can't remember the name. BTW we did finally find the cl site sign at the end of the lane. I will point out that we weren't the only ones who found it very misleading re calling it a cl as there were others on site who had the same problem.

A True Gem

This site was perfect for an escape to the country weekend. Location, location, location...........situated down a quiet country lane away from busy roads and towns it was a perfect haven for a relaxing weekend. We were given a very warm welcome by Mr and Mrs Rogers; pitches are well defined and excellent size and the wash block is one of the best that we have used, immaculately clean and a plentiful supply of hot water (paid for by a meter; but an ample supply for a good shower for a £1). The site is an excellent location for walking and exploring Church Stretton, Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd. A true gem we will be back.
