Nights In The Long Grass

A spacious site a short way down a bumpy track. There is electric available but £5 a night, a bit steep in the summer. There is a rather ‘rustic’ shower room and toilet, this is also extra, £1 tokens. Unheated. It was kept very clean during our stay. The time purchased is not nearly enough to wash ones hair (according to my wife, I don’t have hair so not a personal concern). So £20 a night becomes £27 for an average couple. Not a cheap CL compared to others we’ve recently visited. We did enjoy the area. It’s a steep descent 1.5 mile walk to the beach. Too much for my wife and I certainly burnt a lot of calories on the return climb. But Pendine and Lauharne are lovely places to visit and not too far. The field itself is the only reason we we would not return. The grass had been cut sometime previous to our visit, the farmer leaves the grass cuttings where they fall. It looks a mess and the at least 100 yd trek across this vitual hay field on a dewy morning to the toilet shack means your shoes, socks, trouser bottoms are cakes in old decomposing grass. Our carpets were soon covered and a lot of time was spent trying to keep it out of the van and cleaning it off our shoes. The grass (living) must have been a foot high by the time we left.

Lovely quiet site

The photos don’t do justice to this lovely spacious site. The setting is very quiet and there is easy access to the coast path. Marros beach is a short walk away and is beautiful, with sand, caves, rock pools and the remains of an ancient forest. Access to the site is along narrow lanes which can be quite busy but there are plenty of passing points. The owners sell their own eggs from free range hens which are delicious.

Nice site, don't forget the cash

Firstly we are all likely to make a decision based on pictures assigned to a site. My expectations were far lower than wat we found when we arrived. This was a nice, bug well maintained site. Yes it may be mowed more often than it needs to be, but I believe that most visitors would prefer that. The toilet was open and a welcome plus. It would be good to see better pictures of the site up, as this is a good site. Water and electrics well spread out meant that a full site felt empty. The beach is a good walk away, but very manageable for fit people. We used it regularly on an evening and were often the only people on the beach, occasionally there are naturists, but they frequent the East end of the beach and are easy to avoid. If making link walks is your thig (it is ours), make sure that you take a stick as some of these are over grown, but beyond that there are some options available. I don't want to knock attractions as I enjoy walking, the family next to us travelled way more miles than I would to find things. The one point I would pick out is that this site only takes cash and we didn't bring any, there was no fuss - but it took us three days to find somewhere to get some. It would have been helpful if we knew beforehand - that was our fault as we didn't read it on this site, but don't make the same mistake. The site was quiet, it was good to see families on site, as there are far too many Adults only sites - note we are only a couple these days, The kids certainly had fun, it was the dogs on site which were far more of a nuisance. Would I use this site again - definitely

Peaceful site.

Lovely site but you need to be a good walker, cyclist, or use electric bikes, or have car to get out and about. We walked costal paths and walked to beautiful Marros beach and "got very fit" walking back. Had to use electric bikes to Pendine sands, Amroth and Tenby but great cycle path to those. We walked to Amroth along the costal path, tough going but beautiful, walked back along the beaches but you need to time that well with the tide. Owner extremely helpful providing lots of information, you just need to find in the farmhouse next door. has Elsan point, water, recycling and there are toilets in next field near the elsan point. £18 a night, worth it!

A field in a delightful area.

For those just wanting peace and quiet and no thrills this is a good site for you, several taps are distributed round the field which is very convenient and rubbish is sorted for recycling, fresh eggs are available from the farm but why they don't publicise this with a road sign I don't know as we bought some from another farm as we didn't know this farm sold them! Local honey can be bought from a house down the road on the right towards Pendine and fresh farm raw milk 24/7 from a vending machine (£1 coins needed) at a farm Simply milk, Kilanow Farm, Amroth, Nr, Narberth SA67 8PW. There is a well stocked shop in Pendine, The Pit Stop with a free cash machine. If you like fish restaurants then book in advance at the Stonecrab in Saundersfoot this was excellent. And fresh 'wet' fish can be bought from a van after 1pm Saturdays next to the Wisemans Bridge pub. My only criticism of this and practically all camp sites is that they are 'too tidy' with the 'weeds' round the perimeter of the field as the lady owner was constantly strimming and cutting the grass which would have provided wildlife with extra habitat and nectar from flowers in those areas that don't really need to be kept too pristine although this site does have lots of wild flowers on the 2 sides of the field which are really lovely but please leave the other edges longer for wildlife. Good walking country although steep hilly footpaths are the norm for this section of coastal path, walk access via track and footpath and a steep hill is just about 1 mile to the local beach, coastal walk to Wisemans Bridge from site is 5 miles, coastal walk to Pendine is 3.4 miles and walking back from Pendine to the site along the road including the 20% climb is 2.2 miles and there is a local 251 bus that runs from Pendine to Tenby via Amroth, Wisemans Bridge and Saundersfoot if you don't want to walk back but check the time table first. We took our bikes but it was a bit hilly for me but we did make Saundersfoot which was made easier due to the really useful old railway tunnels connecting Wisemans Bridge to Saundersfoot this was a 12.5 mile round bike trip and it wasn't too bad walking up the steeper hills pushing my bike. Trains can be got from Whitland (9 miles) for Cardiff and Swansea for days out. Colby Woodland Gardens is a really lovely National Trust Garden situated 1 mile up a steep road from Amroth, we parked at Amroth for free and walked there up the steep road following the brown road sign just past Amroth Castle (a resort/campsite not a castle) but returned via the footpath that can be accessed via the rear of the gardens which brings you back to Amroth a slightly easier way and bring you out behind the Amroth Arms pub.
