A last minute find

I totally agree with all the positive comments here. Pitch perfect. Immaculately clean. Great access to so many places. So easy for the Park and Ride at £2.70 per person. Lots of shopping, we went to York Bird of Prey centre which was totally fab. My only negative was the 50p for the shower not paying the 50p but trying to get the shower unit to take the filippin' 50p. I perhaps should not say this but we will go again and at 50p for a 10 minute shower was wasteful so I would be tempted to share and use the disabled block!!! LOL

Great little CL

Just returned from 6 nights at this pretty CL.  As others have said it is extremely handy for York - only ten minutes by bus or car, but with car parking being as it is in York, the bus makes for the best option - particularly if you have a bus pass as it gets you there for nothing - one of the few benefits of being an oldie!  The site is well maintained and set in pretty gardens, with a long dog walk from the commercial site at the other end of the plot.  There is a lovely riverside walk into Wigginton which has a rather nice pub serving good local food - it's about 30mins from the CL site.  The farm shop on site sells delicious home made pies etc, as well as meat, cheese, biscuits cakes etc - so no need to go hungry here - especially as the shop has a cafe too.  Just take care at the entrance if you have a long van - we got through with no problems with a 26'7" twin axel, but you need to be aware.  All in all a site well worth re-visiting - hopefully in better weather conditions!

Handy LocalPlacesOfInterest for York

Not the easiest of access with a 21 ft twin axle at night between the narrow rocks at the entrance, but apart from that, no real complaints - The hardstanding areas and road layout between them are very compact. Good bus service to York

Handy for York

We have just had 4 nights at this site, very handy for both Clifton Moor and Monks Cross for retail bliss plus the bus into York stops just outside the site entrance. The toilets and showers are clean and tidy plus there is a dog walk at the far end of the site. The site also has a farm shop café and a larger commercial site, therefore the traffic to and from these areas can be off putting as the roadway goes right past the 5 van site entrance, but it did not bother us, maybe out of the winter season it may cause an issue

Well Located

We stayed here for three nights in early September and were the only ones there. The pitching area is in a lovely little glade surrounded by trees and bushes just off the road up to the farm shop and commercial site. The location, just a short way up from the northern by-pass is perfect with easy access to Monks Cross or Clifton Moor Park and Rides with good shopping at either. Toilets, showers and chemical disposal point are about 100 metres away and are very clean. My only slight reservation is the ease of public access to the CL, but maybe thats just me being paranoid ! We shall still return next year.

Well worth a visit!

This is a lovely well maintained CL. we was actually on the grassed area, but there were 4 hard standing pitches. The pitch was fine and level. The water pipes etc were in easy reach. The chemical toilet empty point was a bit of a walk but it didn't cause my husband any issues. The showers and toilets were clean. The showers cost 50p for 10mins but that's plenty of time.It saves messing about in the caravan The farm shop had nice produce and the ice cream was lovely. We didn't eat in the tea room but it always looked busy. The bus stop to York is just outside the site. All in all its a lovely CL and worth a visit.

Not quite Rowntree but half the price.

Couldn't get into Rowntree at York (who can!!!) This site was very close to Clifton Moor and a short ride by bus into York centre. The bus stop is 100 yards from the CL. The main road is very busy as is the track past the CL to the farm shop, cafe and commercial site but saying that the noise wasnt too bad. The CL was lovely ,next to a private lake, with water, waste water and electric points close by The chemical toilet building was a bit of a trek but again no bother. There is free fishing 300 yards away but the two lakes were only half full of water and I struggled to catch anything other than sardine size roach. There is a commercial lake adjacent to the CL and I may try there next time as it looked ok. The warden was lovely and for £15 we will be back.

Nice place close to york

Just been to Willow House, it was a very late booking, we booked late monday afternoon for tuesday and were told we could arrive at 10am which meant we had a full first day. The cl was full so we went on the commercial which was very quite and fairly empty considering it was holiday time. There are a lot of seasonal on the commercial site but we had a relaxing time. Close to park & ride for easy visits into York. The owner was a very pleasant and helpful fella indeed. Good dog walking and nice local villages to buy fresh local produce. Business parks also nearby that have places like tesco, the range, screwfix, currys, argos ect.

Perfectly placed for City of York

Willow House is the perfect location if you want to visit York. The Clifton Moor Retail Park is about half a mile away as well on the York ring road - which gives access to other other York venues and attractions. There is a CL and a 'commercial site' - £15 per night for the CL and £18 for the commercial site - a little on the high side. All hard standing with EHU and all the other things you would expect. Perfect for our motorhome. There is an excellent Farm Shop with a restaurant - good value and busy - especially for full English breakfast and Afternoon Tea. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are all first rate - and being developed which is a good sign. Reception is open all the time as is access to toilets and showers. The City of York is 3.5 miles away by bus every hour - and the bus stop is right outside the entrance to the site. The York Park and Ride about a mile and a half away. It's not the prettiest location overall but the CL is nicely secluded. The main road is busy - and a little noisy in the background at night if you're on the CL. These are minor things really and we would certainly go back again and recommend this site.
