Wortley A Stunning Place

We stayed here over late May Bank Holiday(yes just got round to doing my review). Quaint CL site situated behind Wortley Hall near the Walled Garden. All the pitches are surrounded with their own privet hedge for privacy..yes they are quite small compared to some but we managed with our twin axle and kampa air awning adequately. The toilets and showers are so modern and clean. The grounds are wonderful for walks with abundance of wild life..and you have access all around . We loved exploring with out dogs. A small walk into the village from the estate where you will find the pub....club...shop...post office..tea rooms..enough for what we needed. My only gripe as stated before was the continuous visitors to the hall to various weddings ect.( there were 2 weddings the weekend we stayed) who thought that they could just wander around the Cl site..I really didn't like this... as you don't know who they are or what they are up to..as a caravanner for many many years I have never been concerned about what we leave in our awnings when going out..but here I did..Wortley Hall need to put up very clear signs that there is a Strict No Access to the Caravan Site unless you are staying on it.

I see your point about visitors, hetty, but, on the other hand CL users are free to walk all round the grounds of the hall so it's swings and roundabouts really. We loved the site and hope to revisit next year. smile

I think visitors to the Hall get lost or take the wrong footpath and that is why you get people ending up on the CL. In fact if they visit the Walled Garden one way out is via the CL approach road. I think stray visitors to the CL comes with the territory with this CL. Margaret had a nice chat with one visitor who had no idea what the CL was all about! I think it would be quite difficult for Wortley Hall to police the situation as you suggest. Personally I don't think your belongings are anyone at risk at Wortley Hall than they would be on any other campsite. We don't use many CL's but we certainly liked this one.
