Basic site & good for a wkend break…

Stayed for a couple of nights. Arrived after a day of rain, site was very wet so getting pitched was quite difficult but the owner was very helpful in getting the caravan in situ with his tractor. The field does have a slight slope but it is possible to get level. The site is 2 miles from the centre of Otley and going down to town is fine but it’s quite a steep walk back up. However there is the Roebuck pub on route about 10 minutes away. The views across the valley are beautiful. Site owners are very friendly and helpful - would recommend. 2023 price £18 per night with 10amps of electric.

Update - 2020

As there hasn’t been a review for six years, I thought it worthwhile to offer an update: The illustrations for the site show a caravan being stored in the top corner, which is now in a dedicated enclosure the other side of the fence in the adjacent field, leaving the whole of the site for CL use. Yes, the site slopes, very much so in places, but there are plenty of bricks around to supplement anything you’ve brought with you. Yes, traction can be difficult during or after wet weather, especially around the lower, flatter pitches, but the owners make that quite clear and are eager to assist with a tow in or out. Yes, a once quieter road passes adjacent to the site and there’s far more traffic on it than there used to be. However, it’s still a “country road” and the further away from it you pitch; the less likely it is to disturb you, if you are expecting silence. Though one or other of the owners have come in for some criticism in the past, they were very friendly and accommodating to us and we couldn’t wish for better. We didn’t visit any of the local pubs, due to our precautions during the pandemic, but they are still trading, if not open all days. The site is well placed for views and walks, has good recycling facilities and at £14 per night (£13 without an awning) in September 2020, its money well spent.

Not tranquil

We spent four nights here on this well maintained site with good views. Unfortunately the site is close to what appears to be a minor road but is in fact very busy and as it is on a steep hill, there is a great deal of traffic noise from early morning [6.15] to late at night. The site slopes quite considerably and the choice of pitch is reduced as the potentially quietest spot is occupied by TWO of the owners caravans. The Roebuck Inn, referred to in other reviews serves miniscule portions for the main meal. I have a photograph of their 'Roebuck Pie' meal that we were served with. It resembles a round meat pie with 6 small pieces of venison in it, accompanied with three very tiny pieces of broccoli and a pitiful amount of mash.

august bank holiday 2015

Just spent a relaxing 3 nights at this cl, a bit slooping but wouldn't put me off coming again(2nd visit). Plenty of bricks ,wooden blocks around.Had a nice meal at the Roebuck inn ,which is less than 10 minutes walk from the site. around half hour walk down hill to Otley, so up hill all the way back ,but stopped for a pint at the Yew tree inn on the way , then another at the Roebuck inn. paid 14 pounds a night for outfit ,awning ,2 adults and a dog. which was more than stated on cc website but probably not updated. Will be going again.

Good basic little site

We liked this site. We did have to spend some time levelling the van but we were at the bottom of the slope too so perhaps being at the top would have taken longer. The site is good for dogs but you need to watch them near the main gate as it's close to the road. We didn't have a problem with the traffic noise like others have done. There's a dog friendly pub 10 minutes down the road and there's a nice 30 minute walk into Otley via public footpaths with plenty of places for a picnic en route. Would stay again.

Yew Tree Farm

Beautiful surroundings and views from this rural site.  Facilities are well labeled. Road can be quite noisy at times because it's on a steep hill. As others have said, the site is quite sloping. We did find the owner's manner very rude at times, and for that reason, we would not return to this particular site.

Bank holiday weekend away

Just returned from a bank holiday weekend stay at the Yew Tree Farm CL. Site has good access and is easy to get in to. We chose the pitch in the corner however this was very sloping. People had kindly left bricks and wooden planks in the hedge bottom as we did not have enough ramps with our 4. The road down the side of the site is a little noisy however this is not something that bothers us as we live on a busy street at home! The views from the site were amazing and it was great for walks with our 3 dogs. The price quoted on the phone of £13 per night with awning and 3 dogs changed to £14 a night when we got there however for a bank holiday weekend, which we booked at late notice, i am not bothered by this. When I walked to the farm house to pay the owner was very friendly and just asked that we kept the dogs on a lead (which i do anyway as i would not see them for dust if not!!)Many thanks....

Great site - Great sights

Pretty easy to find on the Blubberhouses road heading out of Otley.  Locals refer to the nearest pub/landmark as "The Spite"....  its the Roebuck. Entry to the site has an easy gateway that permits a 14m combination to sit safely off the road while getting the gate open.  The site is sloped but the owner (or other caravanners?) have left copious number of bricks around the edge of the pitches for "blocking" a caravan into levelness. The services are great and clearly labelled.  The grey water sluice is neatly paved, level and has a really wide gully.  The loo is dumped (excise the pun) direct into the septic tank...  but that's ok. Phone reception on Vodaphone and 3 are both excellent - very easy surfing the web.  Didn't use the TV so I have no idea about reception...  but this is the most beautiful County in Britain... so why look at the box? Otley (in common with most market towns in Yorkshire) has more fish shops that you can shake a chip at.  I tried 3 - even though I was only there for 4 days - and they were all great.   Is there a downside to this site?  Well the slope requires a bit of jiggery pokery if you use the steeper pitches.  And the road that passes immediately on the other side of the hedge is much loved by bikers.  I probably would not have noticed except that it was "window open all night" weather. The view down Wharfedale is gorgeous.  Top tip for a local visit... Salt's Mill in Saltaire.  It contains lovely galleries, great coffee, fine (and not expensive) dining, a bookshop, etc... admission and parking are free.  Around the mill stand some elegant (but gritty) architecture, a fine park, the canal.....    Oh go and look for yourselves!!

Yew Tree Farm CL

Stayed here November 2012, it was an autumn break (final trip in the caravan of the year). The site will require levelling blocks as it's situated on a hill. The access onto the site was ok (plenty of room to pull off the road onto the private track to safely open the gate to access the field). This is an area that we've never really stayed at previously usually passed through on the way to the Dales, shall be making a return visit to explore it more, plenty of walks for us and our 4 year old Border Collie. Otley deserves more exploration, there is a very good pub about a 10 mins walk away serving great beer and very good food with extremely friendly staff. Overall in our opinion a great site

Fab views and fantastic local restaurant pub.

The local pub is The Roebuck. It has recently been refurbished and is very welcoming. There a plenty of staff and the service was excellent. The food was delicious though some things seemed a little pricey for what they were. I loved the Salmon and my husband said his steak was cooked to perfection. The site has basic facilities with water and electric. The site does slope but its manageable and the views are outstanding. You can get eggs from the farm but we didnt have a our usual cooked breakfast as we had eaten plenty at the pub! The pub is about 10 mins walk down the hill...a steepish walk on the way back but the road undulates so you can get a breather! Worth a trip.
