The Adult Only site that makes campers feel like children!

My wife and I spent 5 nights at this site recently - The location is good, the site is well cared for and the serviced pitch we had was fine (£28/nt). However we feel it should not be listed on the Caravan Club site as it discriminates against caravans and exhibits a patronising and rule-driven culture that does not match true CC sites. Why? a) The caravan is sited by one of their mini tractors - every item in our wardrobe was shaken off the rail and other items disturbed - something never experienced before in travelling or on sites – ensure you walk with your caravan to observe how it is handled; b) The car has to be parked away in a car park not next to the caravan (no restrictions on camper vans); c) The 'bathrooms' tie up facilities ie someone on the loo is preventing a shower/basin from being used - far better the separate male/female facilities found on true CC sites; d) bookings are restricted to set numbers of days as opposed to the number of nights you require - if you are lucky they match; e) The wifi is not CC so had to pay for it (£10/4 days) – a disappointment having bought a year’s CC wifi. Other reviews mentioned the Red Lion pub being good value - full size main courses appeared to be £12-£19 - not cheap (there is a Toby Carvery about 7 miles away - £5.99). Would we stay again in a caravan - NO - in a camper van – possibly – provided we were not made to feel that we were intruding on their tidy site – now we know why it is adults only! (We wish we had read the reviews beforehand!)

Dog owners beware

Stayed at this site for the minimum stay over May bank holiday from the 30th April to 4th. I was slightly disappointed that we had to pay for 5 nights when we only wanted 4, but nevertheless went ahead and paid £150!!!! I was more disappointed to find when we got there that there was nowhere to let my dog off the lead. The designated dog walk is lovely and fully enclosed as at other sites but signs saying keep dogs on lead at all times.  This seemed totally unnecessary if you were alone in the dog walk with an extremely well trained dog? We asked about other areas locally but many of the places suggested had cows and calves in them which would have been totally out of the question not to say dangerous. Some walks were also suggested but the areas to let your dog off were quite some walk away (approx 1 mile). The Chew Valley lake is beautiful and a lovely walk but again all dogs must be kept on a lead because of the wildlife. I own an extremely energetic gun dog who must have at least 1 hour per day off lead running and although we enjoyed our stay at this site, she certainly did not. It's as shame as the site is very nice and pretty but very over officious when it comes to the amount of rules. Nice area but I would probably just stay at the local CL if returning.

Valet Service

After a lengthy tour of Bristol's Ring Road, it was nice to have the parking and levelling of our van taken out of our hands by the helpful staff. Don't be put off by the separate car park: you get plenty of time to unload. The individual wc/wash/shower facilities were warm (as was the water) and clean, and the office staff were friendly and efficient. We didn't have any young family members, hence our middle rating for that. We chose a satnav route home, which proved quicker and okay for a rig.

Welcoming caravan site

Just returned from a 2 night stay here. Good directions to site and very friendly staff. Our caravan was sited for us. Although many of the pitches were full, it didn't feel busy. Our greyhound liked the onsite dog walking area, and there are plenty of walks nearby. Agree with previous reviewers that the facilities are the best we have seen - very clean and warm. Overall would recommend this site.

Best site on the club network

Yes its not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and this site is just excellent. We have just returned from a 2 night stay and will definitely be going again. The site is immaculately kept and the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Your van is sited to protect the grass and cars are parked in the car park which is close to all pitches, although access is allowed for loading and unloading. This policy generates a quiet site. Pets are more than welcome, and excellent dog walks are provided. The facilities are amazing comprising individual rooms containing toilet, shower and was basin, all well heated. The chemical disposal point is the best I have ever seen and the club should take a look at this facility to see how they could improve their offering. Will definitely return

when booking this site beware of the small print

sorry we can only give the site 1 star as we were unable to visit the site during the recent bad snow and ice "do not travel unless you have to" warnings. We rang the site 2 days before our booking to try and move our booking to a later mutually agreeable date during February only to be told Quote:-" our booking terms say the weather is not our problem either use the booking or loose your money" Sorry to say we will probably never use this site in the future

Disgustingly Overpriced! A rip off!

I just enquired about a 3 night break, arriving on the 18th September. I was shocked to receive an email saying that the price was £130 as during September they had a 5 night minimum stay. Call me a cynic but I reckon if I had asked for October, the 5 night minimum stay period would likely have been extended into October. I'm all for paying a premium for bit of peace and quiet but at £130 a guest house on the outskirts of bath would be cheaper! There are plenty of other adult only parks around the area, Plough Lane and The Old Oaks to name but a few! Don't be ripped off people!
