Better Hardstanding

Arrived at Borrowdale for a four night stay in early September. The approach road to the site is not as bad as people make out if you are experienced and comfortable towing a caravan. The site itself is based in a wood with hardstanding . The hardstanding pitch that i was on wasnt too good as i had trouble levelling the caravan out from side to side whilst trying to also fit the wheel lock. The hardstanding was really small gravel pieces that got everywhere in the awning and caravan even when removing your shoes and this was in addition to the small seeds falling out of the trees. The location of the site is perfect for walkers but i wouldnt suggest fetching a family as there are no facilities to entertain small children. The lack of a toilet block didnt hamper my stay but maybe i think a washing up area would be good. if you want sun then maybe this site isnt for you as it is totally shielded by the canopy of the trees which can make it feel damp and wet.Overall a nice site but maybe not as good as most club sites but that was reflected in the price

Late Summer Break

Spent four nights here from Bank Holiday Monday. The site is great for walkers and great for my dogs. Access is tight through Grange and arriving on a Bank Holiday didn't help but made it safe and sound. Only used the car once whilst there. The local bus was useful and walking by the lake up to Keswick was a treat. We were sited in Squirrels Leap but unfortunately didn't see any but did come across a deer in the woodland. Such a quiet peaceful site nestled in the trees. Think we will return.

Great start to my holiday

Yes it might not be the easiest route to a site but well worth once you are sited. Wardens are very friendly and helpful and make you feel most welcome. They also have good knowledge of the local area. Walked around the lake on the first day and took up the challenge Cats Bells on day two with outstanding views. Did not find the lack of toilets a real problem just a few more trips to waste point. This site might not suit everyone but if you like walking, wildlife and peace and quite then give it a try.

Superb, peaceful, out of the bustle location

Don't let the narrow route into the site put you off. A later arrival time and early departure easily overcomes! A very peaceful, wooded site in a quiet location next to the lake ( but no lake views). Two minutes walk through a side gate and you are on the lake side and onto the circular Derwent Water footpath. Grange is a lovely small village with two very good cafes. A site that no facilities or playground enhances rather than detracts. 5 stars all round!

Quiet

This is a very quiet site set in the forest. I read reviews about getting to the site but was surprised about how narrow the approach roads were especially if meeting trucks and busses. The site is set in woodland which means that it doesn't get much sun. It's in a good position for walking from the site but for me the difficult approach is not worth a second visit.

My favourite site!

This is my favourite site of all those we have visited in 10 years. We have been back a number of times. Access is a bit tricky through Grange village, but arriving late afternoon or early evening means the road is less restricted by parked cars. The site is amazing, very quiet, nestled in the woods, with lots of wildlife to watch at close quarters, including red squirrels, though sadly we didn't see any this visit. It's only a short walk through the (Gruffalo) woods to the lakeside, the children wanted to spend all their time there, throwing stones, paddling, feeding the ducks, building dams in the stream! A little further on is the jetty to catch the launch for a circular tour of the lake. Grange village has a lovely little cafe, which we can fully recommend! I need to make special mention of the wardens on this site, they are by far the most friendly, welcoming wardens we have met in 10 years of caravanning. We planned to give them a certificate to say they were the best wardens, but 2 young children keep us so busy, we didn't get it done - hence the review! I have marked full marks for all areas, including good for families, as I believe you don't need a play park on site for it to be good for families. It's great for getting out and exploring nature, and building a strong family. H,N,B,K and Jasper the dog!

Peaceful

Like living in a wood. Peaceful and full of wildlife. Very helpful staff. Clean water area but no washroom which was fine for us because we always use the caravan facilities. Fresh bread and eggs sold at the site shop on certain days. Not many sunny plots as it's in the woods. Slate gravel is usually under foot so need strong pegs for awning. Sheltered from wind so it doesn't feel as cold as you might expect. Kids like playing in the woods but there's not much else for them to do. Great access to mountain and lake walks! A privilege to be located in a National Trust site.

Superb Borrowdale

Second visit just perfect but don't encourage too many to visit it's good to be able to get a pitch whenever I need!! Lack of showers and slightly awkward access are not a negative

Wonderful Borrowdale

Just returned from our second visit to the site. Given the choice of our own pitch, which was very spacious for our 7m motorhome. We love the interesting and varied pitches offered. The peace and tranquility is the reason we returned. There are  wonderful walks straight from the site, and if mobility is an issue you can catch a bus right outside. Not necessarily suitable for children of a young age.
