disappointed after high expectation

We were finally able to stay on this site for the first time this weekend (15th September). It still feels relatively new and as a result extremely clean and tidy. You could not fault the staff or the site. All I am about to say that is negative maybe down to the time of year and/or the extension to the site that's taking place presently; Residents... there were no families that we could find, only couples so the site lacked atmosphere Quiet... deathly quiet. Dare I say too quiet... Distance out of town... we walked in to Bridlington which was a good 4 miles on the coastal path and it was lovely. But we got stranded trying to get home. Buses stop running at 6pm and all the taxi's didn't answer the phone. I had a 5 year old and a pooch with me and it was turning chilly and dark, luckily the site warden gave me another taxi number that answered and saved our souls. Because of the lack of onsite fun for my daughter, we elected to pack up early and leave on Saturday.

Lovely warm welcome from the warden who are doing an excellent job of keeping the site immaculate Dog walk was perfect and certainly needed as it is not good off site nearby for walking. Bus stop outside for us Motorhome owners into Bridlington Lovely walking back using the golf course path to avoid the roads

Excellent site

We have had a very enjoyable weeks stay. Site is very tidy and well maintained. No noise from children even though we were up by the play area! The wardens were very helpful especially after I had found a stray dog.lots to do locally. Visited the Nucular bunker, York, and the local model village. All three I would recommend. Will be returning in the future.

First Visit

We thought it would be nice to revisit the area where we had not been for many years. We also wanted to visit Hull and we could do this from Bridlington Station. The welcome at Reception was perfectly friendly although I thought there was a little too much emphasis positioning the unit in a way to allow mowing of the grass. We have quite a long unit so we often have to make the full use of the pitch length. I think there is a little bit too much preciousness about the grass on this site with yellow pegs everywhere!!! This is a nice site with good facilities and even the WiFi works reasonably well. The site is being extended which will hopefully include an open grid motorhome service point as the current one still requires heavy drain covers to be removed. Although the extension work is ongoing it did not impact on our stay in any way, in fact the only reason you know it's going on is seeing the odd dumper truck right the way down by the main road. For those not wanting to use their own transport to get out and about there is a bus service directly by the site entrance, unfortunately it's only an hourly service. Alternatively local taxi's seem quite reasonably priced. Sewerby Hall is within reasonable walking distance. I think my one gripe about this site is the price per night at £32, not even in the school holidays. When we left Bridlington we stayed at Poolsbrook which was almost identical in quality and facilities and yet was £9 a night cheaper?

Enjoyable stay

We booked in for 2 nights...on arrival we were met by friendly and obliging wardens who were very helpful as this was the first time we had been to the site...in fact we had a new motor home which we had not used before and we were given good advice on how to site it and where to fill water tank etc. The site was clean and well kept and we had no problems at all.... toilet facilities were spotless, showers hot ...well impressed!....in fact we are booked in for another stay very soon.

Officious warden whilst pitching

The positives first: a lovely well kept site well placed for walking to the lovely village of Sewerby , the coast. Flamborough etc. Super dog walk. Our stay was marred however by the warden who at noon each day lurked around the centre of the site to keep an obsessive eye on new arrivals pitching. We have a large twin axle van which my husband needed to reverse onto pitch due to problems at that time with the mover. This necessitated the front offside wheel of our 4x4 venturing onto 6" of grass on the opposite pitch and touching a small wooden marker post. This resulted in the warden running over shouting that my husband was wrecking the site! He wasn't offering to help which would have been acceptable. To make matters worse he then hovered around issuing unwelcome and unnecessary instructions. He came across as being officious and obsessive re: pitching and the grass areas. My husband after a stressful journey likes to be left to site the van - he is wel aware of the CC pitching requirements. The warden would benefit from some customer care training and as a previous reviewer has pointed out reminding that the Club is run for the benefit of the members and grass areas should not be no go areas. Whilst this warden was waiting to pounce on new arrivals each day the dog bin in the dog walk steadily overflowed until people were piling their bags on the ground under the bin. During the 4 days we were there it wasn't emptied once.

Staff are very helpful and friendly but site has issues. As with all CC sites you have to back up to the post on the offside corner. This one goes further in that you have to keep well to the left so the warden can clearly see the post and number when he walks past. He also want a gap wide enough to walk through between the car and caravan. He also wants a gap of at least 3 feet behind the caravan from the edge of the grass. No awning or part of awning to be on grass. Pitch we had was only just big enough to accommodate twin axle and porch awning. Nowhere to sit outside as we had to keep off grass and space everything out. Hard standing was an understatement! I used a lump hammer and steel rock pegs and still had problems penetrating the floor. Maybe it's time the CC thought about the people who use this site and the problems they create with their site policies. Why do the CC insist on this stupid post parking? A post at the front and asking people to park Car, Caravan, Awning would suffice. No wonder a lot of members use non CC sites. I won't be using it again.

Comment from The Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are pleased that you found the wardens helpful and friendly. We would just like to clear up any confusion regarding pitching on Club Sites. The reason we have the spacing between pitches is to avoid the spread of fire. As such there must be at least 6 metres spacing between facing walls of adjacent caravans, motorhomes or trailer tents and a minimum clear space of 3 metres between adjoining outfits in any direction. This is for safety reasons as fires can spread easily and we want to ensure everyone is safe on a Club site. The wardens are around when people are pitching as they want to offer help and advice if needed and they do ask people if they want a hand. This is only to help people as they want members to have the best possible time on their site. I hope this helps explain and doesn’t put you off from visiting again in the future.

Enjoyable visit

We chose this site as it is the closest one to Flamborough Head and we wanted to visit the RSPB reserve at Bemtpon Cliffs. This is only a couple of miles from the campsite and is a must to do. The sight of thousands of birds soaring around the cliffs is quite spectacular, and there are a number of viewing platforms to watch from. If the weather conditions are good you can also get a boat trip out of Bridlington Harbour to view the cliffs. There are a number of coast walks in the area too. The site itself is up to the usual high caravan club standards. If like us you enjoy eating out there are a couple of pubs nearby but to be honest these aren't the greatest. You would be better off going to Flamborough Village where there are 4 pubs to chose from including the Rose and Crown which is particularly good and has a great atmosphere as well as great food. There is a bus which goes to the village from just outside the campsite but this sadly stops at 6pm so unless you drive its a half hour walk back - but worth it.

PUFFINS

Just had a excellent week on this site nice and peaceful the only down side is the extension to the site if you are on the pitches by the entrance .but they did not start till 08-00hrs and not at weekends, we were up by the dog walk so it did not interfere with my stay. Visited Bempton Cliffs amazing sites with all the Gannets managed to see some Puffins. Good for roaming the north Yorkshire Moors well worth a visit for the beach or country.

Quiet

This cite is situated outside Bridlington. The reception and facilities were good, I can't say I was taken by Bridlington and if you don't go to the seaside there is not a great deal to do. The site is rather bare and featureless. Not much more to say!!
