Dog friendly camping site

We came at one of the hotest weeks of the summer and requested a shady pitch for the comfort of the dogs. The site was excellent with trees for cover and secluded. There was a dog walk close by which had chippings and shade from the trees overhead and another walk which was grassy. As our motorhome was new to us we had a few teething problems and the wardens were more than ready to help in any way they could and always found time for us. The showers and toilets were always spotlessly clean and tidy also the washing up area was always clean and we saw no rubbish around. We will definitely come back in the future. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF

We nearly cancelled ‘but’

We booked this site prior to CAMC acquiring it and nearly cancelled due to some of the negative reviews posted after the takeover, so glad we didn’t. The pea shingle wasn’t a problem and although some of the pitches are on the small side we were told this is going to be addressed. The hedges add to the site making it interesting with some pitches having there own little space. The restaurant was nice and as long as you know in advance about the days it’s is open a great place. It would be helpful if this information is on the site page. We had a serviced pitch and you definitely needed ramps (we have a Motorhome). The dog walk round the site was great, you could walk right down to the river for the dogs to have a dip. We walked to the Hare and Hounds through the back gate, it is a good 50 minuets over fields, stiles, gates and bridges but worth it when you get there as there are great views form the garden. We will definitely be back to see how the changes go.

Pea Gravel nightmare

The wardens are friendly and trying to accommodate people’s needs here, but the site in its current state is probably proving very difficult for them to manage. The site is very awkwardly set out and difficult to manoeuvre large outfits, pitches are tight unlevel and covered in small pea gravel, some of it is very deep too, the gravel is difficult to walk on, gets everywhere including your shoes/flip flops and inside the motorhome. We travel with a heavy motorcycle which was seriously dangerous and difficult to manoeuvre on the pea gravel, for this reason alone we won’t return and have cancelled all further bookings here. On every occasion I visited the the toilet facilities over a 5 day period the paper towel/sanitary towel bins were full and overflowing, on our morning of departure I visited the toilets to find no toilet paper at all, although the facilities appeared to be kept clean. I found the view from our pitch was looking at the rear of buildings which felt like we were camped in someone’s back yard and every time a vehicle passed on the gravel dirt road, clouds of dust were thrown up and blown across our pitch in to my motorhome, if we were unlucky enough to be cooking outdoors on the Cadac the dust thrown up drifted on to our food. It didn’t matter if the vehicle drove past slowly as most vehicle exhausts curve down pointing at the road, which blows straight at the dirty dusty road surface creating this most unpleasant experience. We were also not given a choice of empty pitches but instead allocated a pitch number on arrival. The warden explained this was due to previous bookings taken by the previous owners who allowed booking specific pitches, obviously this situation should change for next season. I realise the club has only recently taken ownership of this site so have inherited many of these issues, but this site falls way short of the clubs usual standards so will require serious investment and some major works before it warrants the prices being charged. I also found the entrance to the lower pitches ugly and uninviting. There is also the problem of grounds maintenance with noise and fumes, as the amount of natural growth needing noisy polluting equipment to control is going to be a challenge too. On arrival and after a long drive, then faced with difficult pitch conditions to set up on, a lie down and rest was in order, as soon as my head hit the pillow strimmers etc fired up and droned on in the background close to our pitch making me wish I’d stayed in the peace and quiet of home... I hope the site wardens and club can turn this site around for its members but it’s not for us.

Different

I have titled this review because this site does not, as yet, reach the CAMC high standards. Loud hedge trimming for what seemed hours at a time, and the Buzzard bar and restaurant does not open on a Tuesday and Wednesday in the high season of August. Some of the pitches are a little tight for maneuvering and the gravel is very small ( not the usual CAMC grade) therefore noisy walking and sandal filling. The wardens are doing a grand job in what seems like quite a difficult time in the transition period from private ownership .I recommend the walk along the riverbank to the Hare and Hounds at Waytown (about 40mins) they open every day and don't take time off when customers want them!! We will return to see how the CAMC have upgraded and improved the site and get more staff to man the bar and restaurant to provide a service to customers, not just themselves.Great location. Efficient and friendly wardens trying very hard and mostly succeeding..

Beautiful

We found this site fantastic, turned up a bit early I'd messed up on the online booking and forgot to add my awning and my husband (whoops) but the staff were super lovely relocated us to a peaceful private pitch which was easy to get into as id explained we were rubbish at reversing and the motor mover was broken so a warden came and helped us monover into our spot, the family bathrooms were beautifully setup with lovely powerful hot showers (just what we needed after a week roughing it on the other side of Dorset in a field with no facilities) Our 3 children were made very welcome (nothing worse then being made feel unwelcome simply because you have small people with you) and the gin in the bar was very tasty. We decided to stay another day and the wardens again were very accommodating. We will definitely be going back next year!!!

Me again.....

We are now nearing the end of a holiday which was a short one due to work commitments. I have reviewed the site already at the beginning of the week but I feel that it needs just one more entry to cover the missing piece; Close your eyes and there is no noise, listen to the swifts screaming above, open your eyes and you are in a vineyard in the Loire Valley. It is a perfect place and as I said before, a few tweaks needed, more compliance with C&MC rules ( Dogs on leads, not pooping over all the pitches, which was dealt with by the staff fantastically). This truly is a lovely, lovely quiet site. All of what you want from a trip to France without the Channel Tunnel or Ferry. A big thank you to the staff, they are working hard to ensure this site meets our expectations. On this occasion, they have done us proud. :-)

Needs a total revamp to bring to the Clubs usual high standards...........

The only good feature I can offer is its location. This is a typical commercial type layout which personally is not to my taste. The caravans a squashed together with little room between them, and I suggest is not currently compliant with the modern spacing regarding the Health and Safety requirements. I feel the site needs a total re-think to bring it up to the Club's high standards and requirements. A start could be to get rid of the hedgerows between the units to allow more space and a grassed area for sitting out in. Also the dog walk area whilst being useful for the dog owning fraternity does take up almost 30% of the site space available on the site. A great location nevertheless but I regret to say in my opinion falls far short of the expected Club's usual high standards. We shall not be returning any time soon.

Very pleased with Bridport Bingham Grange

Just wanted to say how pleased we were on our recent stay at Bridport Bingham Grange site, we had stayed several times before when it was privately owned and was a little anxious of how it would be now that it was no longer an adult only site......well we needed have worried....it was excellent, the staff are so helpfull and friendly even though they are dealing with a lot of flack regarding the change over. The site itself was keep as clean as ever as were all the facilities. Obviously there will have to be changes made to the site to accommodated but until that happens the staff are managing extremelly well and with smiles on their faces. We stayed for a period of 3 nights during the 'heatwave' and will definately go back again for a longer stay. Well done to the wardens.

Bring a packet of Trill, the sparrows will love you for it........

I am writing this whilst still on the site. For the first time after 12 years trouble free jaunts with the CC and 25 years with the C & CC our "left hooker" german van posed a problem and we were advised that it was due to the various pitch sizes on this site and we were advised that we should contact the club to tell them when we book that we are "different". The staff were great and found us a pitch that due to the abundance of hedging was a bit tight but it was completed with a little bit of to-ing and fro-ing. Toilets fantastic but get up early for the slate floored showers with gigantic powerful heads, loo sink and space, lots of space. I had no trouble at 0700 but after that it gets busy and you will get the room with a loo, shower and sink and no space. (Do not be afraid of the mop, it is there to be used occasionally, especially when the floor has 2 inches of water on it). Give this site 18 months, remove some of the hedges, open the pitches up a little bit and standardise them and this will be a great site but it will need some patience on our part (members) and a huge investment by the club whilst it is re-developed. Oh, the sparrows.....at least 40 - 50 on our feeders maybe they could rename the lounge bar and restaurant "Sparrows" and not Buzzards. PS. West Bay....is there another on? The one we visited looks nothing like the picture above as it is now surrounded by a 20 foot high mound of stones.
