Quiet site and a good base for visiting the surrounding area.

We picked this site as a convenient base for visiting relatives in Port Isaac. The site is generally on a slope from back to front and if conditions are wet could cause problems if you are positioned on grass. There are some hard standings in the middle of the site but these are usually the first pitches to be taken so if you want one of these, arrive early. Many people have complained about the electricity pylon on site but we had no problems with this. The toilet facilities are a bit old, but they function ok. The dog walk is very small but there are plenty of lanes nearby to exercise your dog(s). The town is a few minutes drive away and has a few shops. We can recommend the fish & chip shop. There is also a shop attached to the local petrol station which is very handy and a golf course close by. If you are expecting a club site with fantastic modern facilities, lots of hard standing, super fast wi-fi and all the mod cons then you will be disappointed. If you want a site that is clean with all the basics you need and is an ideal base for visiting the surrounding areas like Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Wadebridge etc then this is the site for you. We will definately visit this site again.

Mediocre Stite

We stayed at this site as it was convient for an event we were attending and luckily managed to obtain the last hard standing. The Good Points: Beautiful views over the valley, friendly wardens and the access straight on to the lane from which you can access a number of footpaths which are ideal for dog walks. All usual service points available. Loved the fairy lights in the trees and the general upkeep of the grounds was good. The Could Be Better Points: The large pylon in the middle makes quite a noise when wet or windy and those lovely views also mean you are exposed to wind and rain. The dog walk is tiny. The toilet blocks are old and tired, and certainly the ladies could have been cleaner - lots of cobwebs in the ceiling and lights, hair on the walls that looked like it had been there a lot time. Showers are not that powerful and the tiles look like they could do with a deep steam clean. The WIFI (free version) is useless but not just on this site! The Wider Area: Camelford itself sadly does not have many amenities and sadly since the Town Council have changed the car parks it is very difficult for any form of motorhome to part (we are under 7 metres and were prohibited from the car parks. The site does however give you good access to some of the North Cornwall attractions such as Boscastle and Tingagel, both of which cater for motorhome parking.

Not the best

Probably the worst CAMC site we have visited and we have visited plenty, poor signage from the main road so easy to miss. The site is mostly grass and quite muddy when wet, we arrived in a large MH to be told we needed to leave as we were too heavy for the grass and there were no hardstanding's left, nope, not a great start. Eventually managed to get a HS (Much longer story) after we found one where someone had left early although we have to request that the wardens contacted the person to check. Very uneven pitches, you will need blocks and chock and plenty of them. It is in the country so expect it to smell especially near the road end as there was a mound of manure in the field opposite. Toilets were clean, but the oldest and poorest facilities compared to other sites. Would we return? absolutely not On a positive note, the town and only pub is only a 15 minute walk away, or turn left out of the site and its a lovely walk to the 14th century church at the bottom of the hill which you can go in and explore, also a golf club you can use the bar and restaurant of, but currently not open to non residents due to C19.

Lovely small site but a little isolated

We have just had 6 nights at Camelford. Overall an enjoyable stay. The site is spotlessly clean and well cared for. The shower block is probably the oldest we have seen on a club site but still adequate and very clean. The wristband Outside the facilities system worked well and seemed better than on other sites where everyone had a band, much less confusion and never had to check if anyone was there or not. There is an Electricity pylon on site in a dominant position so be aware if you have worries about these. The dog walk is tiny and our dog refused to do anything in there, but there is a small green next door. On the whole one of the less dog friendly sites we stayed on due to lack of lead free area. Be aware that the site is quite exposed in some parts, we had high winds and several of us lost our awnings despite anchoring them well. The wardens were friendly, helpful and lovely. Fab fish and chip shop in Camelford.

Great stay for our first trip since lockdown

Pat gave us warmest welcome we have had when we got to the site and made us feel at home right away. She and husband Mick are so friendly, helpful and hard working. We were lucky enough to get a hard standing for our motorhome, so no issues with wet grass etc. The facilities are perfectly acceptable and despite there only being 2 showers and 2 toilets available, there was never a queue when I used them. There is a good local bus service to Padstow, Bodmin and Bude - for Tintagel and Boscastle. However, the routes are through the local villages and therefore not speedy on the longer routes. A taxi to Tintagel and bus back works well. The Camel Trail between Padstow and Wadebridge is a lovely walk and fits in with the buses from the site. St Julitta's Church just down the road from the site is worth walking to, lovely location and fascinating gravestones. Thanks Pat and Mick for a great stay.

Big Bang in Camelford

we stayed here four nights as part of our current tour. the site was busy which meant the choice of pitches was limited. The pitch we chose was in a corner which looked wet and dark, turned out not to be the case but I did have to be careful not to plough the park when we left. As others have said the facilities block is in need of a complete upgrade, The wardens here are doing a fantastic job, they keep the site very clean, very inviting and have the balance between safety and freedom just right. It was disappointing that the WiFi was not working and there seemed to be no definite date for its repair. We found the buses easy to locate and use. People with a phobia about electricity pylons should not stay here. Early one morning, the people in the next caravan turned their gas on without opening the flue vent and blew the bl...y door off as Michael Caine might say, that was exciting!

Our first stay at Camelford

This was our first stay at Camelford and we had a nice stay but facilities could have been better. The shower block is old but kept clean. We did not use the shower block because of Covid 19, we used our own facilities. What we found annoying was that there was only one chemical waste facility based at the end of the shower block, none at any of the service points. Also no bins at the service points, you had to walk up to the shower to a bin compound for recycling and general waste. When we arrived there had been a lot of rain so all the grass pitches were churned up, so people were trying to get hard standing pitches. There are only thirteen hard standing pitches and we were lucky to get one. Pitch moving seemed to happen every day as motor homes were struggle o the grass pitches. We had lovely views of sunset whilst there and lovely weather but I don’t think we would stay there again. The assistant warden worked really hard helping motor homes get off wet pitches and cleaning up mole hills.

Good place to stay as a base camp, quiet and staff friendly

Third time we have stayed here in 8 weeks, just bought our vw campervan. Great place to stay as a base camp, with easy access onto the A39 and beyond. We pitched on grass using our levellers with no problems. Staff friendly and informative. Facilities clean and good Covid systems in place. We only stayed for one night at a time as handy for us whilst travelling down or back from the lower parts of Cornwall. Would stay longer if could. Great for visiting Roughtor, Brown Willy Tor if you like walking. The old Davidstow airfield was a great find for exploring. WiFi is an issue on-site, only available in a small radius around the upper part of the site. We have just bought a mobile router £70 and data SIM card PAY go and tried it there and had no problems with WiFi or internet connection. Overall, a nice place to stay, well run and clean. Will definitely be back. Well done to the two sets of wardens.😀

Calm Camelford

This was our first visit to the Camelford site and our 2nd site on a 4 site Tour. We have over the last few years visited most of the main club sites in Cornwall and this site is the 2nd to last on our list. Last year we stayed at the beautiful Tintagel site so knew what sights we wanted to see in the local area. This site is smaller and as hoped much quieter than Tintagel. We were pleased with our pitch but wished the the grass had been moved because our trainers got soaked every morning in the early morning dew, something we had not anticipated as the weather was so nice. The site is easy to access and the views are stunning. The Wardens are very friendly and our fellow campers were very respectful of the Covid-19 rules. We also thought it was great to be on a site where we did not have to dodge the usual round of kids on bikes/scooters. We go out a lot so our sons never engaged in that activity thank goodness. Our main reason for choosing this area is that I have totally fallen in love with Bude Seapool and due to swimming pool closures wanted to go there more than ever. Bude was well organised for Covid-19 (we later moved site and so can compare it with other overcrowed beaches). We do have the benefit of knowing which parts of the beach area are quieter though and also where to park out of the way of the main car park. We enjoyed the Camel Trail but did not stop in Padstow as it was madly busy. The other end of the trail was much quieter. The local fish and chip shop in Camelford was really great. Well organised and really good quality fish and chips. So Camelford is on our 'we would like to return' list but the trouble is so is Tintagel, Godrevy and Merrose Farm. The shower block is a little dated, but given the Covid-19 crisis is was well organised with the wrist band system. As on all club sites we have visited this year, with the exception of Malvern Hills, there were always people who went in without the band, or left bands inside the block or literally barged me out of the washing up area, but over all most people are really decent and a pleasure to be around. Well done Camelford
