A Beautiful Site - Too long to Check-In

First off I want to say that this is a wonderful site, a great location and very tidy and quiet. The layout is excellent, not regimented rows, lots of character and our dogs loved walking in the woods around the site. The walk around the reservoir is great and makes for a good gentle stroll. I can't comment on the facilities as we remained self contained in the motorhome. Our stay didn't really get off to the best of starts however. When we arrived (about 2.30), we joined the queue of 5 vans in front of us. The process of check in seemed to be under some pressure and it soon became clear as to the reason. Having checked in", guests were told to go and find a pitch and then come back to confirm the number and collect tags etc. Sounds very sensible, but when you have a number of people queuing to go into reception, (to ask for info, to confirm pitch no, to buy something in the shop etc.), what happens is that the driver at the front of the queue waiting to get in has to join the back of the queue to check in ! It took us 45 minutes from arriving to getting through the barrier, not what we had experienced at other club sites in the previous weeks.Surely the process could have been amended so that one member of staff manned the barrier, greeted people and "checked them in", whilst the other manned reception to issue tags etc to guests who had already found their pitch. We appreciate that Covid has impacted everything we do, but come on guys, this can be improved.

Lovely spot

Had a lovely weekend at this site. Surrounded by forest it was a gorgeous location and great for us to walk the dog. They had done well to make us safe with the Covid situation and we weren’t too inconvenienced. The wrist band system worked well, my only criticism being that the loo’s and showers were in same block so if you only needed the loo you still had to wait in same queue meaning if 3 people went in you had to wait quite a while for the showering etc to be finished. Not sure how they could get around that but TBH it wasn’t that much of an issue but might be worth looking into an alternative? I would also like to suggest what I did in the washing up facility area -instead of doing your washing up in the room ( only 1 person at a time ) I went in, filled my bowl with hot water and took it back to my pitch. Much quicker turn over. The location was incredible and so close to the reservoir, just 10/15 mins walk away and what a delight that was. The other thing which was a great facility for us people not wanting to cook, was that the site had a wood burning pizza set up on the Saturday night. Pre-order, select collection time, pay off-line and there you go. Pizza’s were wonderful too. Would recommend pre-order as they do sell out quickly. Totally recommend this site. Will be back

Not good for dogs! Too many restrictions

I was really looking forward to my visit to Carsington Water, as had been many years ago. The facilities on the site were up to the usual Club standards, and I even like the idea of a dog shower. I was with 2 other ladies and we had a number of dogs between us. This was where I found a problem, we went onto the dog walk and the sign stated dogs must be on a lead, can understand close to pitches but there were areas where our dogs could have had a run. Understand about livestock being in fields, but dog owners take this into consideration. Thought no more about it until we got down by the lakeside. Everywhere was DOGS ON LEADS. Feel as though other reviews have been a bit misleading when said that it is great for dogs. Wont be coming back, which is a shame as its in a lovely area

Autumnal break

Our second stay here. A superb setting , this site is one of the best we've been to . Really picturesque amongst pine woodland, just a walk away from a lovely walk to reservoir . Perfect location, especially during the crisp autumn sunshine. Facilities are spotless and the wardens were very friendly . Would definitely recommend!

All perfectly fine, despite a few reservations

This site ticked a lot of boxes for us for an autumn stay. It is located brilliantly for walks and bike rides around the reservoir. It is nestled in a picturesque pine woodland and makes for a quiet site generally, despite being very popular. The site was extremely busy and, after a lot of rain (which can't be helped!) extremely wet also. 2 sets of fireworks well past 10.30pm on one night (just off the site, so again, can't be helped) were unfortunate. The staff did an excellent job in keeping the toilet and shower facilities clean, however, pot-holes and poor lighting made evening strolls to the block a little challenging and eventful, especially after the wet weather.

Dogs

Limit on dogs per unit or site . Members should state how many dogs they are bringing when booking. We have been a member for just over a year now and this is the subject that makes us reconsider staying with the club. When you read site reviews the topic that always comes up is Dog mess, inconsiderate dog owners , noise from dogs , large amount of dogs per unit yet nothing has been done to address this problem. The club is excellent providing dog walks and bins but the sheer number of dogs at most sites is starting to give credence to the argument that dogs should be charged. Since the club provides facilities for dogs the associated cost should be covered. On this visit with inclement weather it was more noticeable the amount of dogs tethered outside units rather than taken to the dog walk. The wardens and the facilities the club provide on this site are superb and the level of cleaning in the Toilet blocks is excellent

A fabulous season

We have just spent a season on this site and have enjoyed every month of it. The facilities have been clean and cared for on every visit we made. the only thing I would say is sometimes only half the toilets and showers have been open, the rest have been locked off. The wardens have been excellent, especially Glen and Sue the assistant wardens, they would always go that extra mile to help us out when needed. There are plenty of places to visit near by and Carsington water is a short stroll away Thanks again for a fabulous season

Peaceful weekend break

We had a free night voucher courtesy of the club so chose to use it at the Carsington Water site as we have never been before and it's only 90 minutes from home so ideal for a 2 night stay. The weather forecast for the weekend was awful but that didn't deter us and I'm so pleased it didn't. We had a lovely welcome from the wardens and chose pitch number 2 which was reasonably level and like most of the site, in a small 'cul-de-sac' area just behind reception. It reminded us very much of a European site being fairly private and surrounded by trees. We travel with our 2 dogs and the dog walk is great, lots for them to sniff at but we did have quite a lot of heavy rain showers so the dog walk can get pretty muddy and slippy, just make sure you're wearing a good pair of boots. We walked to the visitor centre but only took the short route on the side of the dam as it was a very wet day. The dog shower was a real bonus as our male beagle decided to roll in fox poo out on his walk on our first night so that saved a bit of a mess in the motorhome! Lovely peaceful site, rabbits and squirrels running about everywhere, immaculate facilities. The pizza van came on the Saturday night and seemed to be very popular although we didn't try it (wished we had). TV signal was brilliant, didn't use the wifi as we use our O2 phones as mobile hotspots and we streamed the Superbike racing with no problem at all. We had a lovely peaceful break and will defintely come back.

Final night of our September tour 27th September

We first stayed here in our caravan for 2 weeks September 2009 so we thought we would have a memory lane stop off to break the journey from Norfolk back to North Wales. We arrived just after lunch and walked to the visitor centre and wildlife centre at Carsington Water (seemed a lot longer walk than 10 years ago a reminder of our age!!) Some good shops there, cafe outdoor shop RSPB and icecream shop (that one was closed not sure if it was just that day) When we were there last time our dog loved the dogwalk so before we left in the morning we walked that hasn't changed just as good as before! Lovely wooded site just our cup of tea! Wardens very welcoming and facilities excellent! chippy van on friday and pizza van on saturday! Well recommended! Oh and good play area for the kiddies!

Long weekend

What a great site just around the corner for carsington water which has loads of things for the family to do or just a couple, campsite was immaculate only let down by a local music festival going on late at night in the local village but wasn't to loud just the boom boom bass, unfortunately out of clubs control as they weren't informed beforehand, other than that a great base for the peak district with lots to see and do within an hours drive, would heartily recommend to stay here, we might be back next year but for a bit longer than a long weekend next time.👍👍👍
