Excellent site

It was so nice to be among tall trees! They and the other green plantings, plus the layout, made it seem like there weren't many others around, even though there were actually a lot. There's a huge walk all the way around the site, with great views over the reservoir as well.

Peaceful weekend

Third Time at Carsington, and never dissapointed, Location Is Great, Wardens very good, ammenities always clean,(never used the showers as always use the Caravan shower), Managed to walk round the Revervoir this time, so earn't my "pint of beer" Friday night lol. Went to the red Lion in Kniveton for a meal this time and found it exceptional, and the portions were huge, But doo book friday or Saturday night as they are getting busier as there reputation grows. Overall a great long weekend

Spot On

The CC facilities are as expected. Despite all of the trees it does not feel oppressive or hemmed in. There is a circular dog walk around the perimeter of the site through the woods. This is out of sight of the pitches and very pleasant if dry. The lake is barely a ten minute walk away with a well constructed path around it. About 8 miles long that can be walked or safely cycled. All the surrounding towns and villages are beautiful, plenty of small local shops as well as supermarket's. Try to plan your days out in advance because you are truly spoilt for choice. Miles of safe cycle routes. Walks with or without the dogs. Dovedale is a must. Parking at the national stone centre is cheap and perfectly located for exploring the lower part of the high peaks trail. Wirksworth village is the nearest for shops and has a co-op. Ashbourne the nearest large  town. Other than the lake, nothing else is in easy walking distance so stock up and plan ahead. This is probably one of the few sites that I have been to that I would be keen to revisit, after ten days we still had so much we wanted to do and see.

Picturesque

Nestled amongst a pine forest the park is very picturesque and we enjoyed sitting outside eating our breakfast (and every other meal) watching birds and squirrels going between the trees. The 2 play parks were great for the kids and the wooded area at the back of the park meant they could go exploring and watching the wildlife without being too far from the caravan. One of the best parks we have stayed, there is loads to do in the area and the walk or cycle down the dedicated pathways along the reservoir was beautiful and worth the time if u have kids as when you get to the visitors centre there is a huge adventure playground totally free for the kids to use. Well maintained park and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even had some games on that weekend raising money for charity that anyone could get involved in. Immaculate facilities and easy access to surrounding attractions. The family bathroom was great as allowed us to bath our 2year old in privacy. Showers were awesome! Hot and powerful and plenty of them so you never had to wait. Only down side is its a little way from any shop or pub, but site shop was adequate for essentials and reasonably priced, they even sell animal feed for the kids to feed the wildlife at 50p a bag which kept them quiet for a while. 10 mins drive will get you to a supermarket or a pub. Would definitely go back but would do a week next time just because there is so much to do and it's too easy to spend a lot of time in the park as its so beautiful as you feel so close to nature. A lovely stay and great for families

Perfect little break away!

Gorgeous location, amazing woodland walk for us and our 2 dogs around the site, overlooking Carsington Waters reservoir. Showers and toilet blocks were great, best we've seen so far! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, so peaceful and relaxing! Can't wait to return!

Well maintained but so rigid!

As with many CC sites this one is idden away from view which means it does not have any views. The facilities are clean and well maintained as ever BUT! We had booked an awning pitch but on arrival knew there was a pitch available next to our friends. We were told it was a non awning pitch so we said thats fine. Then told no way it could be changed as the site was full over the weekend. All ok (ish ) but that pitch was vacant all weekend and the lack of any ability to be helpful was a real negative. Back to CLs for us which are far more relaxed and helpful:-(

Great Weekend

A great weekend spent at this site. Despite the heavy rain, we also got some sun and that gave us the opportunity to have a bbq each day. Due to the site being surrounded by big tall pine trees, even though it was windy you don't feel it around the site. The wardens were very friendly and great with the kids when they went to stock up on sweets at the shop. The facilities were spotlessly clean. Lots of places to walk the dog around the site and a stones throw from Carsington reservoir itself. The playground was great for the kids and they loved the freedom of exploring for bugs in the wooded areas. Due to the site being made up of different little "pools", you get the feeling that despite it being a largish site it feels small (which we think is a good thing). Ashbourne is well worth a visit and lots of lovely pubs near by. Excellent site

Lovely site

Been to this site twice before but only for a weekend, this visit was for 7 nights, wonderful staff, nothing too much trouble, very clean, even used the laundry room, immaculate and not badly priced, did all the dogs blankets and bedding because we had alot or rain, but it didn't dampen our spirits, we even walk around the resovoir which is 8.60 miles, then stopped of at the visitors centre and had ice creams. Would highly recommend, if you like it extra quiet like we do then I would go midweek, we went mon to sunday but then had an extra night which was no trouble for the staff, fri/sat the site was full, lots of kids but not enough to spoil it for us, we will defo be back and we could stay here for a fornight without any trouble infact might just do that, felt like we'd been away for a month it was so relaxing.
