Carsington Water site - wonderful experience!

Just back from 7 nights at Carsington. Lovely wooded site with very tall pine trees, but clearings allow plenty of sunlight through. Lots of wildlife to enjoy...ducks, squirrels and various birds. Friendly, hard working, helpful wardens keep the site and facilities beautiful. Enjoyed listening to the piped Radio 2 music whilst showering! Also, there's a small drying room which we found useful after a wet day of cycling. A short walk to Carsington reservoir which can be cycled or walked around..we did both. About 8 miles. We found the pitches to be ample in size and were fortunate we didn't have any  children playing ball games near us. We did however see that happening in the cul-de-sac just down from us. Also witnessed somebody having a barbecue on the grass, resulting in spoiling the pitch for future users. Surely it's not too much effort to raise it off the grass! One last thing..wonderful dog walks on site through woodland trails along the boundaries. Would recommend a visit for sure.

Excellent site amenities - very popular

This was our second stay at Carsington. We arrived on Friday evening due to work and school commitments. The site was already very full with less than half a dozen pitches remaining. We were due to be joined by friends but it was clear they would be located some distance from us. The site is very well equipped and beautifully maintained by friendly wardens. Showers and toilets are kept immaculate. It is clearly a popular site, ideally located for weekend visitors from East/West Midlands and S Yorkshire. The local pubs such as the Knockerdown Inn and Miners Arms are especially welcoming with great food.  Carsington Water is on the doorstep with good off road cycling/walking and visitor centre and cafe. Due to the popularity of the site it would be useful if pitches could be booked in advance to ensure friends can be located together.  Our previous stay was in October 2015 which was a much quieter occasion. Excellent site albeit very busy.

Lovely!!

We arrived mid week to a very peaceful and quiet site. It is in a lovely location and there is something really relaxing about the beautiful trees. Although you are in a wood the pitches are separated into small groups and there is plenty of sun light that gets through for the site to feel open - but probably not enough for sun worshippers on many of the pitches! When we arrived we were told they were expecting 70 at the end of the week. It was a pity that extra pitches appeared to be created on some grass verges - one van was right on the edge of the road. This made the site feel too crowded and we were pleased to be leaving on the Saturday. Apart from that the wardens were helpful and the site was well maintained and the toilet block absolutely spotless. The flowers all around the site were a very lovely addition. Will return but mid week!

Good location though pitches a little close.

We stayed Thursday to Monday. It was great until the noisy kids arrived though on the Friday! We picked what we thought would be a quiet pitch at the far end of the site and all was well until a family arrived and spoilt the peace. I have nothing against children, however I do object to people not respecting other peoples space or privacy. Despite there being numerous signs around the site stating 'no balls games' said family allowed their children to have a rounders game right by our caravan and thought nothing of whacking their ball at our car! Now the positives, the locations is great, the site is immaculate, the showers and toilets are excellent and the staff efficient and very pleasant. We had a meal at the Red Lion in Hognaston and had a lovely night. A good old fashioned pub as pubs used to be. Great steak, dog friendly and lovely friendly locals. Back to the topic of the site and we felt the pitches were a little on top of each other where we were. I think it would be a good idea to have family areas where families could all pitch and 'enjoy' each others kids. All in all its a good site but I doubt we will stay again.

Chill time

Having previously stated at Carsington we knew that pitches with good levels of sunshine are restricted because of the trees around the site. This is not a criticism, but if you like sitting out when the sun is out, then do take a good look around, there are a lot of pitches that are hidden  If in a. Motorhome, remember to stock up prior to your stay as the nearest supermarket / shop is a few miles away. But do check out what is available in reception as they have a really good stock of most essentials plus frozen meals as well - ask for what's in stock. Carsington is a pleasant walk (8 plus miles) but it's not arduous and on a good surface. Do visit the Knockerdown Inn & try their pies & puddings but make sure that you are hungry!!

Peace, perfect peace!

Beautiful location, excellent, hard-working and helpful staff. Two drawbacks for this old git - noisy kids on a Friday night when the weekenders arrived and pine flower bits dropping on the outfit from above. Small sacrifices for such a beautiful and well looked-after spot. Definitely worth a regular visit!

First time site

Site very clean, pitches large, staff very amicable. Shower facilities excellent.  This was our first ever venture with a caravan and despite atrocious weather was a very good site for our first time. Would recommend a visit.

A site to pine for!

Stayed there for one week in June and were blessed with mostly good weather. Set amid a small forest of very tall pine trees, this site really is a gem as long as you don't mind the inevitable woodland debris settling on your outfit. Pitches are level and of relatively generous sizes and nicely laid out. The wardens on this site are among the best on the club network and the standard of cleanliness maintained in the toilet block is outstanding. A particularly nice touch was the 'help yourself' mini herb garden. In addition to the range of water sports and walking and cycling opportunities available at the magnificent Carsington Reservoir, this part of Derbyshire is great for walkers who wish to explore some of the country's finest scenery and lovely old villages. There is no real need to take the car out once there unless you want to explore further afield. However, Ashburton is a short drive away for a good range of shops. Great British countryside!

Wet Carsington

Once again enjoyed our stay at Carsington, despite the weather. Lovely scenic site, beautiful views of Carsington res. Facilities excellent (Have they been up-dated over the past 2 year?). Kept wonderfully clean by the hard working wardens, which must have been difficult in the weather conditions. Pleased that the warden had a quiet word regarding playing football up on the 'hills'. The site fills up over the weekend so if you want TOTAL quiet and tranquillity - go during the week.

Lovely Time

Carsington Water is lovely if you just want to relax, have a long walk or go around the Reservoir. The site is lovely and clean and one of the best pitches we have had thus far, will definitely be going back.
