Great overnight stay

Easy to find, short distance from M42 and apart from a little traffic noise it's very quiet and peaceful. Friendly and helpful check in, well kept site, big hard standing pitches. Usual facilities on site and well up to standard. Very clean. Perhaps it has improved recently but other reviews complaining about the site not justified on our visit. Would be very happy to stay again, and for longer.

1st visit this year

Easy access from the motorway and a very useful stopover. Friendly wardens on arrival offering advice to find a suitable pitch. Site was looking better than our last visit in October '21 with blue sky and fresh green trees and shrubs. Pitches could use a bit or smartening up, edges need trimming and weeding. Toilet blocks are rather dated but very clean and warm. Did manage to get chair out in the sun but only visiting for a couple of days en route to Scotland.

Read some poor reviews and can't agree

Second visit to this site, the first being in January. Found everything clean and functional. Staff were lovely. This is a great site and ideally located for many activities. We will certainly be returning many more times

Great site

This was the first time that we had stayed on a large CAMC site. When we made the booking, we were worried about the negative comments, but our experience was really good and if we need to be near Birmingham again, this will be our choice. It was a pleasant experience. Well done to the staff on site who work hard to keep things neat and tidy

5*

I have read some of the reviews that were less than positive and I do not agree. We found the site to be spotless, clean, quiet and friendly. I would have no hesitation in rebooking, I did not hear any road noise. My personal plus point, the showers are not push button/timed and the temperature is not fixed. 5*

Could be better.brisk

Brisk warden at check in.couldnt be bothered to say 1 toilet block closed.assume with 6 names by reception they still didn't want to clean 2 blocks.neither ladies or gents could be described as warm any time we went in. Whole site looks uncared for and tatty, yes I realise it winter but could look a lot better. Its handy for motorways etc.break journies is only reason to stay. Staff could learn a lot from wardens at baltic wharf.bristol on how to run a site.

First visit

This is our first visit to this site. The site is full due to Crufts. I wanted to review our experience as it differs from previous reviews. There is a hum from local roads but you do get that with sites local to main towns. Nothing that kept us awake. The site is open to non members. There is one builders van but no where near the past reviewers experiences. There’s more top end vehicles than not. The site is not at it’s best but winter has just left us and summer is coming. All facilities are what you would expect from a CAMC site. All in all a good visit. We did twitch when we read previous reviews but we worried unnecessarily.

In decline

Mainly due to visits to the bus museum, adjacent to the site, I have stayed at Chapel Lane more times than any other CMC site; sadly, every time I come, I seem to like it less and yet, even on my last review, only four months ago, in November, I wrote "despite the negatives, I always seem to enjoy my time at this site". This last five-night visit, in February/March, was not because of the bus museum, but as a good place to stay between stops at Stockton and Littlehampton during a four-week sojourn whilst work is being carried out on my home.

Sad to relate then that my enjoyment of the site went down another notch and I have to doubt whether, but for the museum, I would come here again.

Previously, I reported that the site was careworn and had an unkept appearance. Nothing has changed in that regard and perhaps even has declined further. Moreover, I reported in November that the generally scruffy appearance was not helped by some seasonal residents, with remarkably sprawling vans, trailers, awnings, et cetera, who, I remarked, were not travellers, but that you would be "forgiven for thinking otherwise".

These residents remained, although one had reduced the number of outfits on the pitch. Frankly, these were not in any sense a nuisance - just an eyesore. On another pitch, close to me, there were guests who I did find a nuisance. I am not going into more detail about them, or why they were a nuisance, but shall limit my comments to saying that I could number four clear indications that denoted them as being something other than your typical CMC member (and be assured that that, in itself, was absolutely not why they were a nuisance). Readers may surmise what they will.

Traffic noise might be an issue for some, especially the nearer you pitch to Middle Lane; this is especially so in the mornings and evenings when it gets quite busy. Otherwise, noise from the trunk roads requires the wind to be in the right, that is "wrong", direction. Traffic never bothers me though; I prefer this kind of ambient noise than total quiet. So, I report it only for those who get uptight about it and thinking of an earlier review that mentioned it.

If the site can be brushed up a bit, better looked after and attract the more usual clientele, all will be well.

May I add that I agree 100% with the previous reviewer supporting the site managers for rigorously enforcing the earliest arrival time. Would that all site managers did this. Why do so many members just not get this?

Useful for NEC

The site was well kept is a useful location for access to the NEC. I have read some member reviews that the site was subjected to road noise. Whilst it is true that there was some, we didn't find it intrusive. It was more of a quiet distant rumble and to be expected on most sites that are not located deep in the countryside. I noted the earliest arrival time was 1pm and I observed this. I think it is correct that this is enforced at this site along with the earliest arrival times at all other club sites. Members that choose to ignore this are selfish and need to learn the error of their ways! Well done wardens that stick to the rules. Some sites, such as Chatsworth, can not cope with members that arrive early but some members still think they should be allowed onsite as soon as they choose to get there, irrespective of the arrival time given. The facilities were well kept and clean. Wardens were friendly and the check in process was without difficulty. The layout of the site is a bit of a maze but the site map helps with navigation! We will use this site again in the future, especially when we are visiting the NEC.

Ok for a day or two

Female warden quite cold and abrupt when we arrived. Male warden more friendly when we returned for our key fob. Good location for the NEC which we visited. We also had a nice pleasant walk from the site. If you book a non awning pitch, as we did, be prepared that you are basically in a big car park. No separate pitches so to speak. Toilets clean but dated. Would return only if we were visiting the NEC again. Not the CAMC’s finest.
