Very well located for a lot of family friendly activities

Usual club standard pitches with friendly and welcoming staff. We stayed here for the week of the Caravan and Motorhome show as it is only 15mins drive from the NEC. Very easy to access and get to and from other areas around Birmingham. Cadburys World for example...20mins away. The Farm shop that is 10mins walk away is great with a quirky indoor crazy golf and bowling centre next to it. The site is surprisingly larger than you think if you drive around it but it does not seem like it is huge. We found no trouble with any noise or anything to be honest. A great stay like usual on a CMC site. Thank you

First time at this site

Arrived to a warm welcome, site is clean and well kept, we chose a serviced pitch in a nice part of the site . Nice dog walks nearby and an adequate little dog walk on site . Showers running cold but not a major issue just used the other toilet block . Thankyou for a great stay

General Facilities Poor

This is the 3rd time at this site, good location, but toilet facilities not always available, 1st visit newer toilet block closed sign said" For maintenance" never saw any maintenance being carried out throughout my entire stay. 2nd Visit Old toilet block 2 toilet cubicles closed for my entire stay, 3rd visit Told new toilet block open, old one closed so parked adjacent to the new block that was subsequently closed within the hour to be met with a "No hot water" sign. Friday, Saturday,Sunday, still closed and the site is supposedly full this Wednesday Thursday and Friday due to an event at the NEC Also whilst using a cubicle in the old toilet block, immediately following supposedly cleaning there were still debris behind the door frames on the floor clearly. visible. There does not seem the will by the wardens/Club to ensure the facilities that are paid for by the members are maintained to a working standard, and yet we are still expected to pay for substandard facilities.

Good location

The site itself is neat and tidy and the warden we met on arrival was friendly and helpful. Our pitch was sheltered, which it needed to be in awful weather. We enjoyed a muddy dog walk around the golf course and were very appreciative of the dog shower. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and well maintained, if a bit tired. The only real concern was that some people don’t seem to know the purpose of a toilet brush, which is disgusting for other guests and miserable for the person who has to clean the toilets.

Abrupt and Unhelpful

The Winter relief woman warden was abrupt and rude. The male warden much more pleasant and helpful. There was no flexibility. The site facilities were not acceptable, as the central toilet block was closed off and the furthest block a long way from the site entrance. Office closed when it should have been open and also the office opening at 1pm is so inflexible that members can be given an abrupt reprimand for arriving slightly early and then "rushing me". Site also with small dog walk, but some good fields nearby. Site has some background road noise from nearby main road into Birmingham. Site was not well kept and there could have been some better maintenance of pitches, some of which had weeds/grasses coming through.... this is the time of year, when not busy to do such maintenance.

Chapel Lane Getaway

Needed a few days away from it all, so booked a 3 night stop over rather than the normal 2. Very clean site and friendly staff. Beckett's Farm shop and restaurant were great and we ended up bringing back more food than we originally took with us! First site I've been on where there were a couple of noisy dogs, but it wasn't an issue and not the sites fault. We will be using it again.

Would stay again

Booked this site as my partner had a hospital appointment in Birmingham and thought we'd have a few days away with our new rescue dog. Everything clean and tidy with good clear signage. Liked the little information shack too where you can borrow games and books and check out transport timetables, places of interest etc. Doggo loved the leafy walk and watching the squirrels. We were also guided to a lovely longer walk through the countryside too. Can see why it's popular all year round; there's plenty to do not a million miles away and Chapel Lane makes a very reasonable base indeed. Missing a site shop but most people come well stocked-up anyway I think.

Worst Site we've Been to

I will never book this site again which is a shame as it is very convenient for the NEC. There were kids playing ball in the middle of the site road when we got there and we were not impressed with this as the wardens did not do anything to stop this. Whilst we were there the grass was never cut in fact it had not been cut for some time. This hid a lot of dog mess and nearly each time I walked my dog around the site I came back with dirty shoes. The actual dog walk stank and there was dog mess everywhere. Even outside the gate there was mess even though the residents outside the gates had put up signs for people to pick it up this was ignored. On one occasion a dog was barking for over 2 hours! The wardens must have heard it as it is not a big site but did nothing about it. We did not have any telephone number to call and the main office did not answer. In the end a few people went to the owner to complain and all she did was throw a bowl of water over the dog. When we finally spoke to a warden he stated that he would have to speak to everybody concerned not just the dog owner!

Always a good place to stay

I have stayed at Chapel Lane a few times now over the past decade or so. I have noticed a decline in the condition of the site over that period and I cannot help thinking that it is in need of a little bit of TLC. Many of the pitches are looking rather careworn and the site has a generally unkempt appearance. Mind you, this stay was in autumn and one must make allowances; no site, especially if, as usual, it is surrounded by trees, looks especially tidy at that time – particularly on grey and damp days.

I must say that the general dishevelment of the place is not helped by the storage site next door. I have learned, from a bad experience at Bearsted, that whenever a site has storage, one must take care to avoid any road leading to or from it. Few pitches here are affected in that way. Another factor heightening the sense of disorder was some rather odd-looking encampments on a few pitches. Two of these, I was informed, were seasonal pitches. These appeared to be occupied by people in permanent residence. One pitch had two motorhomes and a storage trailer crammed in. The other a trailer home with an array of awnings. They were not travellers, but you could be mistaken for thinking otherwise.

I had a service pitch backing onto the Wythall Cemetry. These pitches are fine, but not very deep. The service pitches on the other side of the site are deeper. It was bad luck that there was some machinery operating in the cemetery, or possibly the large house next door, that continued unbated for the whole of one day and part of another. However, such things are not within anyone’s control.

Despite the negatives, I always seem to much enjoy my time at this site. Part of the draw for me is the Transport Museum next door and three of my visits have coincided with days when the buses are running. But there is more to do.

Caravanners have much to explore by car. Motorhomers, who stay put once pitched, can catch a bus to Solihull or, after a short walk, to Birmingham or they can walk or cycle to Wythall station (1.5 miles) to catch the train to Birmingham or Stratford. There is a big Sainsbury close by. It is a long walk, although I have done it in the past, but easy by car and not too trying by bicycle. However, I recommend the rural route via Willmore and Bateman Lanes. Smaller convenience stores can be found on Station Road as well as a Chinese and chippy. Despite the proximity to Birmingham, the site is very rural and has a lovely countryside feel to it. The managers I met were lovely and the lady willing to chat which is so kind and enjoyable.

I really like it here, but I hope a small amount of funds are allocated to tidy the place up a little.

Great for a few days stopover

Back again for our stopover on the way home from the Peak District. Lovely warm welcome from the friendly wardens after a dreadful journey. Site not too busy as no Shows on at the NEC which can make it rather busy at this time of year. Site is level with lots of trees around so a real headache for the wardens this time of year. Brilliant Farm Shop and Restaurant just down the road. (Own facilities used!) Very easy access to/from the motorway, thanks for being here for us. See you again next year.
