Good racecourse site.

Have stayed here several times. If you pitch up on the rails you wake up to a beautiful view.  The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Showers are good and always clean. Good washing up facilities and adequate laundry room. Just down the road is Bishops Cleve where you will find Tesco and Aldi a chemist, greengrocers, etc also a fish and chip shop with good menu. On the down side there is nothing for children on site. We will be staying again in April.

Typical 'racecourse site'

Typically, racecourse sites are built firstly for horse racing and then adapted for caravan site use, so there has to be some compromise. So there is a lot of tarmac, not so pretty. Visit with this in mind? In this case re-furbished toilet blocks have improved the facilities on offer, although they are a bit spread out - the helpful Wardens keep them up to scratch. Very handy for the town centre which is easily walk-able via pleasant parks and suburbs. Not too far from the M5 so good for overnight halts. Have used this site a number of times and will do so again.

Excellent Site.

What this site isn't; It isn't the most picturesque site on the circuit in the sense of a quiet little backwater with a rambling brook running through......but I don't think it purports to be so. It is however picturesque in its own sense. You can pitch right up against the edge of the race course with far extending views over the whole course and beautiful hills beyond. It is in a gorgeous part of Cheltenham with leafy parks and boating lakes on the doorstep. It is also a 15 minute stroll into the centre of Cheltenham with all that has to offer. Facilities are clean and perfectly adequate. The Wardens were absolute stars and couldn't do enough. If you looking for some quiet backwater this might not be for you. If you want somewhere cosmopolitan on one of the most famous courses in the UK it definitely is! Tip: if you want to be on grass book an awning pitch.

Weird

Stayed at this site for 2 nights on a stop over returning from Cornwall. What can I say but this is a weird site - pitches on the car park and the grass ones backing onto a busy gravel  park and ride .The facilities are spread all over the place toilets here, dishwashing facilities over the car park, water somewhere else what a pain. Glad it was only a stopover only wish we had stayed just the one night. Staff were lovely and the view was fab over the racecourse but still never again not a jewel in the Club's crown x

1 night stop over - won't be returning

Having travelled back from a 2 week break to Devon and Cornwall we used the site as a stop over. Having visited the beautiful sites and places in Devon and Cornwall coming to Cheltenham was a shock back to reality to say the least. The site is situated on the outskirts of one of the worst areas I have ever travelled through and having expected to reach the site and find the usual pictuesque well kept site we were hugely disappointed to say the least. We pitched up in what we could only describe as a car park with a barb wire fence behind us separating us from a gravelled disused parking area. I felt like we had joined the travelling community! During the night we were kept awake by cars constantly driving round the disused car park behind us which was rather unnerving and felt very unsafe. I have read some fantastic reviews about the site and if you manage to get pitched in the car park in front of the stadium and are a fan of horse racing it may not to be so bad. I am sorry to have to write a negative review having been so impressed with the other sites we have visit but I think it's important people know what to expect.

2 day stop-over

We chose this site for its location more than the facilities and that is the way to view this site! Lovely view and basic facilities but functional. Has a very strict ruling on alignment to their "peg " system for positioning but friendly enough with it!

a great stop over site a little different than most other sites, and set in a wonderful part of the country.

Disappointed

I have to say I'm glad this was only a stop over for us. Set on what can only be described as a car park apart from  a small  grass area (which will only facilitate approx 10-12 vehicles. I felt pretty much like a traveller squatting. My husband wishes we'd carried on to our destination and not stopped...The wardens  however were lovely and very welcoming and the facilities were clean. Won't be going back though sorry.

Regular visitors

Just stayed the one night this time on the way home and got one of the pitches facing the hills. Lovely view. Obviously due to its location the facilities are limited but the ease of access into beautiful Cheltenham make up for it. The sad news is the demise of the Sunday morning car boot on the other side of the course.

Handy for local transport

This site is situated within the Cheltenham Racecourse complex. In total there are 76 pitches of which 50 are on mainly tarmac hardstanding which are, of course, non- awning pitches. There are a dozen or so grass pitches where awnings can be used. The whole site slopes down towards the actual racecourse so some sort of levelling will be required on virtually all pitches, not just fore and aft but also side to side in some cases. Worth pointing out that some racecourse sites and this one in particular have pitches dotted around racecourse structures like grandstands.   The toilet/shower block is next to reception. Whilst kept perfectly clean and functional they don’t quite match the best the Club have to offer on their main sites. Having said that one major plus is the large shower cubicles with detachable shower heads. The laundry and dishwash facilities are housed in the grandstand building in the middle of the site. Because of the dual use of the site water points are fitted in where they can so from some pitches they can be quite a walk. Likewise the only chemical disposal point is a long walk from the furthest pitches. The motorhome waste water emptying point is near to reception requires a heavy drain to be lifted although it does have a small flap if you can pinpoint your motorhome with pinpoint accuracy or employ a length of hose! Again electric points positioning also takes into account the dual use of the site and in some cases a longer cable may be required.  There are no play facilities for children. There is also no official Club WiFi but you can make use of the Jockey Club connection for free although I found it a bit hit and miss but there is no charge so you can’t really complain!  Alternatively mobile reception seems to be quite good so anyone with a data allowance could use their phone as a mobile WiFi point. In the reception building there is a small information desk.   This is a very good site for those that prefer not to use their own transport for excursions. There is a Park and Ride facility just outside the campsite with frequent buses into Cheltenham. Bus passes are accepted. There are more bus options from the centre of the town. The fit may wish to walk the mile or so into the town centre, perhaps stopping en route to look at the  Pump house in Pittville Park. Cheltenham has a very good shopping area with an excellent choice of cafes and eating places. For food shopping the town has a selection of larger supermarkets. For steam railway enthusiasts the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway has a station on the other side of the racecourse complex. Timetables available from reception. It is possible to walk around the perimeter of the racecourse which is probably 2/3 miles although you are not allowed on the actual racecourse.
