One of the CC last remaining gems.

Totally unspoilt and tranquil site which I suggest is only for the discerning caravanner. Wonderful countryside to the south and east of the site and some great walking and cycling country. How lovely to go on a site with no washing facilities and toilets. We don't have to stomach old biddies trotting to the toilets early in the morning in there pink dressing gowns and matching slippers. More sites please without the luxury of toilet blocks and the other razamataz. You don't need these facilities in a modern caravan for Gods sake. Use the ones you've got and give the Wardens a break...........Dockray Meadow may it long continue to enchant us........

As the book say's 'A real gem'

Arrived June 23rd for 4 nights. After travelling over 300 miles what a pleasure to arrive at such a beautiful little site. The wardens were not available but there were clear instructions to put your membership card through the letter box, take pitching instructions from the box, find your pitch, & return later in the day to pay. Simple! The pitches were all of a good size, ample space for an awning and car & still be sociable with your neighbour. The views were lovely & it was so peaceful. The dog walk might not of been 'big' but the wardens had thought of those little extra touches that make members with dogs feel welcome. They had their own little agility course, which if you can encourage your dog to do can be fun, ours was more interested in sniffing around! No Crufts for us! The site was thoughtfully set out & even with the dry weather the grass was in the usual top notch condition with displays of hanging baskets. Walks from the site were available from the office for a small donation to the mountain rescue fund. Not far was the Ravenglass railway which was worth the trip, again dogs were made to feel welcome with their own little goodie bag of biscuits. The tea shop at the other end did a massive scone & jam. The menu was extensive & all the food we saw looked freshly made & plentiful. It was shame we were only there for 4 nights & that we live so far away as this would be one of my regular weekend haunts. Well done to the wardens for such a well presented site.

Love this site,

This was our first visit to the Dockray Meadow site. It won’t be our last. This was our first site with no toilet and shower facilities and it really didn’t bother us for a long weekend visit, we have the onboard bathroom anyway. In fact in some ways we preferred the fact there is no shower block as we didn’t have the constant walking back and forth of folks heading there and back for their ablutions. The site is easy to find and we were made very welcome when we arrived. The site is kept spotless and we’re pleased to report that the dog walk area was safe for off lead time for our pooch and that everyone picked up after their dog. There is no play equipment for kids but we saw a few families enjoying walking, running and cycling together around the site. Dockray Meadow is just a short drive away from some nice gentle walks, more serious ones too if you’re that way inclined (we weren’t this time) and also not too far from the coast. The road that goes past the site is popular with cyclists and there wasn’t much traffic outside of the times you’d expect folks to be going to and from work, and even then it wasn’t busy, All in all we found Dockray Meadow to be a pleasant site that we’ll return to later in the season. Hopefully then the weather will be warmer and we’ll have chance to sit outside and look at the surrounding fells whilst enjoying a glass of something cool and refreshing. If you’re after peace and quiet then this site should be on your list of places to go.

Northern Treat

Really quiet site. Couldn't book on line as our van is just short of 8m, however experience has taught us to ring up, so we did and was told to come and they would help us onto a pitch. When we got there we were offered several to choose from that were flat and large, once we had chosen the warden positioned our van with his mower, as we do not have a mover. Lovely friendly scenic area. Next to Keswick, which we are told is the wettest town in the country.....we noticed, spent all week in welly's. Ideal for Scafell Pike climb. Beware at the N T car park for Scafell Pike there are temporary toilets, that are not nice. National Trust really need to sort this. It is a very busy car park. Enjoyed the passes and scenery and local food. Thank you again wardens, because of you we had an unstressfull start to our holiday which meant we had a very relaxing week.

Peace and Tranquility

A beautiful site set far from the crowds, yet close enough to both the coast and Lake District to be convenient. A warm and helpful welcome on the phone was matched by a similar greeting on arrival at the site. Although facilities at this site are limited this does not detract from the main attraction of coming to this area, peace and quiet. Possibly the site achieves these aims because it does not offer a wide range of facilities for all members, if so please continue as you are. Thank you.

We had a lovely long weekend (Thursday to Sunday) on this peaceful and tranquil site. It is a real gem if you like a rural setting, that is truly tucked away in a lovely area. The site is nestled in a small, shallow valley with a stream running through....a picture perfect site with great views. We enjoyed a circular walk (about 5 miles) straight out of the site onto the fells(Cogra Moss) when we arrived on Thursday afternoon. The lanes surrounding the site are really quiet. There is very little artificial light in the vicinity of the site so the night sky come alive with millions of stars, including a few shooting stars, and the odd satellite. It's location is great for those relatively inaccessible parts of the Lake District for most of us e.g. Loweswater, Crummock water and Ennerdale, which we used as our starting point for a strenuous but enjoyable assent of Pillar. The site is also quite close (about 10miles) to the sea, where we enjoyed a walk (5miles) along the coast at St. Bees Head, incorporating the RSPB site (Cliff top view points) and Light House into our walk. We saw quite a few porpoise - just keep scanning the sea for the tell tail surfacing of the dorsal fin. The site is basic but beautiful. Please be aware that it is quite a way to the 'local' shops.

The Best Site in Cumbria

In our opinion this site is one of the best ones we have visited in the whole network, but definately the best in Cumbria. The location is quiet and yet near enough to cockermouth or Keswick if you wish to visit. The Wardens are extremely friendly and helpful and we have visited here before and we look forward to visiting again. They are very hard working and are constantly making little improvements to the site. The site now has a wifi booster, (which could be a bonus, depending on how much you want to get away from it all), which is located in the information area and this is a nice dry, large area to deal with your urgent emails etc while you're away. Some of the pitches are not completely flat, but if you're prepared with ramps this isn't an issue. There is a lovely stream running by the side of the site and we purposely choose a pitch near to the stream so that we can hear it babbling through the night as it is very soothing and sends us to the land of sleep every night. I would hesitate to recommend you to visit this site as self preservation, as if I do recommend it I'm at the risk of the site being fully booked the next time I want to stay!

THE QUIET SITE

Just spent eight nights here, very peaceful, well kept site with nice friendly wardens. Good roads to take you to coast or mountains or just so relaxing staying on site.. good walks starting from Cogra Moss. Cockermouth well worth a visit for shops and eating places.

Peaceful place

We had a couple of days here in June the site is improved since our last stay a couple of years ago a lot of the pitches have been improved making it easier for bigger units to pitch. The wardens are very good and welcoming and keep the facility points spotless despite very poor weather and the flowers are lovely. The lack of toilet block no probs we always use our own the phone signal is better too

Perfect club site

We loved it here. Quiet - superb location - excellent and very helpful couple running the site. We never use a toilet block so no loss to us. We will be back
