Nice site
Stayed a couple of nights to prepare van for new season after winter storage. Very pleasant stay, lovely walk along river into city. Wardens friendly, facilities immaculate. Only downside was wifi connectivity which is particularly poor
better than expected
stopped over for one night en-route to bamburgh, site was great as expected clean, well laid out with helpful staff, facilities were spotless. being so close to the A1 I was expecting a lot of traffic noise but was pleasantly surprised because while it was ever present it wasn't as loud as it can be at other sites (e.g Hargill House at the top of the site) and when I was in my caravan I could barely hear it. will definitely be back!
Worth a visit
This was my first visit to Durham Grange. I found the site easy to find, level and we'll laid out with clean warm facilities. A park and ride sevice into Durham is only moments away with plenty free parking. For the more energetic among us there is a pleasant 3 mile walk along the river to the city centre, however the early stages of this walk can be a a little muddy following wet weather. The only down side to this site is the proximity to the A1. Traffic noise can be heard through the night, but that said after a few nights you can get used to it.

Another nice stay
We stay here usually twice a year once at the beginning of the year and once at the end of the year. We were a bit later this time but it was as good as usual. The facilities were immaculate even though the site was fairly busy.
We'll be back at the end of the year.

Not quite an A1 site
On our recent stay we found like others a first class welcome and facilities up to the usual high standards. The closeness to the A1 is both handy but slightly noisey especially at peaks. The dog walk is fine, the chidrens play area looks ok.
The only downside was the internet strength, I understand its a rural connection but the charges are the same as a top class connection and therefore they are not worth the fee. I feel that this is something the club should look at. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Good site for caravans
This site is ideally suited for people who wish to break their journey north or south due to its location close to the A1(m). The main drawback of the location is the motorway noise which seems worse in winter due to the lack of foliage on the trees around the site. Having said that we found the noise fairly un-intrusive due to it being a steady drone.
If you have a motorhome without a car in tow be prepared to drive to leave the site or risk life and limb crossing the roundabout to access the nearby park and ride (which stops operating after 7pm) There is a walk to Durham city from the site which can get muddy in wet weather and is totally unsuitable to use after dark. For those with cars or who don't mind taking their 'vans out there are many fantastic attractions nearby. I would highly recommend the Bishops Palace at Bishop Aukland which is often overlooked in favour of more popular locations. I don't have children and can only guess that most youngsters would soon tire of the small playground and riding their bikes round the site but there are many good places to take them off site. The dog walk is adequate but not enough for proper dog exercise. Overall a well kept site with friendly helpful staff.
Service with a smile.
We have stayed at Durham twice this year already.
On both occasions the site lived up to its reputation.
On our second visit last weekend we had one of those moments!!
We had collected our van directly from being serviced and went straight to site.
All seemed ok until the electric cable was connected. Nothing, not a spark or flicker from anything. After much growling and connecting and replugging still nothing. Then a helping hand appeared form nowhere, well the wardens office anyway. A tester was located, supply confirmed at post, cable tested at van end all with power available. after resetting all switches and trip contacts, sorted!! Do we need wardens with a logical mind? I certainly did!! Thank you very much indeed. Apparently the service included winterising the van and closing everything down on it ready for winter, in February, when our season had already started, eer, thanks guys.
A local site we just keep going back to
This site isn't too far from our home, and as it's open all year round it's a simple answer to the question "Do you fancy a few days away in the 'van?" The site is close to the Park and Ride into Durham, and your P&R ticket also allows free travel on the bus from the market place up to the Cathedral and Castle.
Once you've exhausted all that Durham has to offer, you are right next to the A1 so it's easy to head north or south to explore the wider area. If you are simply passing through, the site is an ideal stopover as you are heading north or south.
We will be back soon!
