Basic but very good

This site is basic but I love it. No club house, no big reception, no posh facilities. However, what it does have is wide open space, clean adequate facilities, some hard standings, peace and quiet. At this site children have to make their own fun. There is plenty of room to run and play, there is scrub and bushes to hide and make dens and a virtually flat tarmac inner road to the inside of the race course which they can walk, run or ride bikes around. My nieces and nephew love it but those used to other things might not. Nearby there is also Go Ape 🦍 and the mountain biking park. For dog walkers there is plenty of area to walk or you can go off into the surrounding woodland. Your dog will love it. For shopping convenience Within walking distance there is a useful Spar shop at the A38 garage. Negative points, being close to the A38 the site has easy access but there is some road noise. I don't consider it to be excessive but it is there. The facilities are basic (but very clean) and the water pressure is not great in the showers. We live close to this site and I love it for a weekend break.

Ideal stopover - or longer

Situated right in the middle of Exeter racecourse and on top of a hill this site has 180 dgs. of sky with no interruptions. Wide open spaces abound with a terrific dog walk along the entire length of the racecourse perimeter road - I guess the site will get really busy during racing events. Facilities are adequate, spotless and heated ( most welcome last week). Pitches are well spaced and hard standings are flat and wide. Due to its location the site may seem a bit austere but it's got all you need - road noise may impinge but it's location of the A38 and adjacency to M5 is the site's key feature. Could I mention that the motorhome greywater dump is hard to find and difficult to operate as it's been driven over a few times and the lid is stuck - needs to be changed to the vehicle width grid type.

A few days at Exeter Racecourse site

We enjoyed our stay at Exeter Racecourse. Having read some of the reviews on here it is just as well that we are all different! We arrived late but had a lovely, friendly welcome from the Wardens who must have been working all day and been ready for a rest. We were not far from the A38 but in our unit we could not hear it at all and had a great night's sleep. The shower block was basic but spotlessly clean and warm. We had only paid £14 a night for a pitch with electricity here. We have paid much more at other sites with more modern facilities but the same in every other way. We were central to so much here, we went somewhere different each day and will have to return to do the rest. It was great for dog walking, 2 miles on the tarmac path round the racecourse when wet and paths criss crossing the heathland when it got drier. Haldon Forest for walks and cycle rides just down the road. We had a lovely time and will be back.

Its a bit grim

If you view this site as no more then a stopover then its fine as its very well located for the main trunk roads in the area and a doddle to find. If its an actual holiday you want then I'm afraid its a bit grim. The roads previously mentioned are very close - you can see one of them - and hence the background noise is constant. The facilitities whilst spotlessly clean are very dated and inadequate. I think I can spit faster than the showers deliver water. There is nothing for children here and the service points are very old fashioned. All in all not a site we will be returning to unless we have a ferry to catch.

End of season stay

We stayed for a few days mid-October. The woman on the Reception was very welcoming and helpful. The toilet and washroom facilities were clean and well maintained but I'm not sure that there would be sufficient capacity to cope with the site when its full. As the season was coming to an end the site was relatively quiet but with an abundance of space for walking. The site was ideal for us as we have a dog who prefers not to have to deal with people and other dogs. There was a race day on while we were there and we found the racecourse facilities to be very good. The Haldon Forest diner is a short walk and serves a good english breakfast. The only downside is the traffic noise from the A38, but it didn't bother us too much as it just becomes a background hum. We will definitely visit again.

Very relaxing and great location

We have stopped here before. We do not use the facilities as we use our caravan shower etc.  The only thing I do not like is there is no internet I do think in this day and age this facility should be added. Other than that, great site and location, wardens are very friendly and helpful

Tired site.

This site has older style facilities than most club sites we've visited and it isn't quite so manicured but the lower price reflects that. Having said that the facilities were clean and the wardens really helpful and friendly. It is situated in the middle of the racecourse and has nice views across open heathland and woods to the south. It's about 15 mins drive to the nearest Exeter park and ride and Exeter is worth exploring. Haldon Hill forest park is great place for walking and bike trails. I would definitely return to this site.

We enjoyed ourselves here

We have had a full year and this was our main and only significant break so we needed peace, rest and no work. The site was great the traffic noise was not intrusive, access was fine. We had the car so transport was not an issue for us. We got lots of peace and great long dog walks. Yes it is exposed - the rain cause tow large pools on the awning roof and one night the wind collapsed it but it is lightweight and not lashed with storm straps. Having said that it rained mostly at nights and the wind was at night too. Days mainly gloriously sunny and warm. The toilet block is ripe for an update but spotless clean and well maintained just like the whole site. The wardens were friendly and efficient. What more could you want? The test is would you go again? Yes and soon even though a fair way from where we live
