3rd Visit, will Return Again

This was our 3rd visit to this site in as many years, the facilities are excellent and the whole site is clean and tidy, a compliment to the wardens. We were booked for 2 weeks but unfortunately had to leave a week early due to a family bereavement and I have to say the lady warden handled the whole process excellently, thank you it was very much appreciated. We will return next year.

3rd year at Hillhead again wonderful

We found this site 3 years ago and have visited it for 4 different weeks now (I reviewed the site last year). This is simply the best site on the network, its the best run and the wardens have been the most friendly and helpful we have encountered on all our travels. The site wardens use a hit squad approach when grass cutting and tidying the pitches and we have found this works for us as it minimises the disruption to your holiday. We used the on site club and am pleased to report the entertainment is much improved.Overall we have grown to love this site and really appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping the 5 star standards on the site.We look forward to our next visit.

Disappointing

This site is among the most expensive on the network, and certainly has some of the best, spotlessly clean toilet blocks we have ever seen. The views from the pitches that are not surrounded by extensive hedging are simply stunning. However, the roadway round the site is very narrow, and many of the grass pitches are virtually inaccessible without a mover as they are in small, sloping, hedged enclosures. We did not use the bar, restaurant or pool, so cannot comment, but the well-stocked shop on site is very useful. There is very little peace and quiet on this site during the day as the wardens are constantly grass cutting, strimming and hedge trimming. On one occasion, I was suffering from a migraine, and the wardens began cutting the area immediately behind and above our caravan, less than eight feet away. There was no friendly word to warn us. So why didn’t we speak to them? Well, on our second day my wife returned from the office on the verge of tears having been given a thinly-veiled telling off by the warden on duty for not exactly following the procedure for moving pitch. We had checked the day before, and had been given the impression that we could simply move to a more suitable pitch and let the office know, however ‘with all due respect’ - and at some length - this was not right. So we weren’t keen to interact with them again. In fact, I’m sad to say that the wardens were the least friendly and hospitable we have ever encountered on a Club site, which made us feel uncomfortable the whole week. At times we felt we were in the way of the grounds maintenance programme. We love the area, but we won’t be returning to Hillhead.

WOW, with a disappointing end

What a lovely site this is, if you dont like it here then caravanning is not for you. The facilities are fantastic. On arrival the staff are very helpful and i must say the guys that show you around to the pitches can not do enough for you i was asked what sort of pitch i was looking for so i said a sea view and thats exactly what he found for me on pitch 64, there are better pitches at the top of the site but you need to be lucky to get one of them. After setting up we were a little tired after the journey and did not feel like cooking  so we went for a takeaway at the resteraunt, when we asked what was on the takeaway menu they told us everything on the normal menu, i have never had Gammon, egg, chips with all the trimmings in a take away, superb and delicious. The pool was wonderful, the club house has all you would really want and is resonably priced, kids have an arcade too, there is entertainment too. Sitting outside your van in the evening looking out to see with the ships going by was fabulous, there is wildlife around the site too.The dog walk could be bigger but if you time it right you could have it all to yourself and leave your dog off the lead, but you can walk down to dartmouth with your pet if you want to. I cannot praise this site enough but we did have one issue on our last day, we wanted to stay on a little later, we only wanted an extension to 6pm or even a little earlier as the weather was good but was told we could not as the grass needed cutting, i asked could it not be cut the following day and was told no but if i wanted to stay i could pay for a full night at a cost of £45 which i was confused about, we paid it as we wanted to stay on and left at 6pm, as we left the grass was being cut on our pitch, there should be a better policy especially as on the website there was 101 pitches available for the night we wanted to stay. apart from that this site is well worth a visit and i WILL be going back

Stunning

This site has it all. Just spent the late May bank holiday there on the recommendation of friends. Quite simply stunning. If you don't like this place then there is nothing more the caravan club can do for you.

Friendly and Helpful Staff

What an amazing staff. Everyone was nice from the front office to the on-site store.  When we arrived it was a bit overwelming so we asked for help and two of the staff found us a perfect pitch.  They even turned us to face the ocean view!  We are looking forward to returning next year for an extended week at Easter to enjoy the many surrounding sites to see.  Plus, we can't wait to take advantage of the on-site entertainment.  You won't go wrong if you visit here!

Lovely campsite

We stayed here over Easter 2015. The site is spotless and well maintained. It was very busy, being Easter, but we chose our hedge enclosed pitch and went back to tell reception and the lady remembered my name! I was impressed. All staff we encountered were very friendly. There was a bar and entertainment, although we didn't use the facilities, also a shop, pool and play park for little ones. The toilet block was spotless and spacious. We rode our electric bikes down to Kingswear and got the ferry over to Dartmouth. It's all downhill on the way, so obviously, all uphill on the way back. We got back up the hill in 20 minutes on our bikes, but one of our party decided to walk and it took him an hour!  We definitely will be returning to Hill Head

Hillhead Site well worth a visit

We stayed here for a week towards the end of April 2015 and found that the site was well set out, mainly split up into small enclosures with trees and hedges, this definitely helped when the wind was blowing as it could be a bit exposed. We paid the extra for a serviced pitch and found that this really made life easier. Although we had a look and found the shower facilities were spotless we used our own. The staff were very helpful, suggesting places to visit, and it was handy having the shop on site for daily papers, bread etc. Dartmouth and Brixham were the highlights.

Not Sure !

We have just returned from Hillhead and although everything is as it should be, facilities excellent, beautifully kept etc - it just didn't feel particularly friendly. Nothing we could put our finger on, but by the nature of the site, where there are lots of little enclaves to pitch in - it made you feel quite removed from other guests. Saying that, the closeness to Dartmouth and the most wonderful NT house Coleton Fishacre certainly help overcome any negatives we may have. Saying all that, first class site - will we return? Probably not.
