EXCELLENT SITE DEPANDING ON YOUR PITCH.

Had a great weekend at Hunters Moon. We were unfortunate that we could only get a grass pitch due to site being full although we booked a while ago.  We ended up right down the bottom next to dog walk a few yards from main road and down wind from the nearby refuse site so it wasnt ideal. Having read the comments from the ' Sussex caravaner ' most people on the wet grass pitches DID take as much care as possible to limit damage to the grass pitches but where else could we park our vehicles or walk to our vans and unfortunately this DOES damage the grass, but all the people near me were trying their best to be responsible so Mr Angry from Sussex ( who I assume DID have a hard standing ) should perhaps try to see the fuller picture before blaming others. I have stayed at Hunters several times before and have always been most pleased, and will stay again but NOT down the bottom field. The wardens were brilliant as usual and most kind to my little Grandson who paid us a visit one day. He really enjoyed the treasure hunt. One more thing , The Silent Woman pub , which is nearby, although looks charming from outside, does not welcome children and has a big sign outside saying children NOT allowed in bar or retaurant but may stay outside, tied up with the dog presumably! !

Well that's another pitch, Out of Action.

Well what an eye opener, We have in the past rallied with the Centres, and have been in fields and locations that can be badly effected with heavy rainfall, and when departing great care is taken by all members to leave the rally site in near perfect condition, but our recent stay at this site ( and my heart goes out to the Wardens) left me dumbfounded by the lack of consideration by some caravan and motorhome users, wheels spinning and tearing up grass, mud deposited on the roads, and general lack of care for the grass pitches, don't these people understand the fact that heavy rainfall will make conditions poor, and other member's will be denied the pitch if the Wardens close it due to it looking like a mud bath, it costs money and a lot of work for the Wardens to bring the pitch up to standard again, if you feel that you will damage the pitch when leaving, ask the Wardens for assistance, they would rather be left with a decent pitch.

Good Location

Lovely site in good location for exploring Dorset. Site kept tidy but felt that playing field and dog walk grass could be mowed more often. One thing I did notice was that when we arrived and were given a number of available pitches: 103, 96, 112, 115, 118 the first two were fine however on looking at the other three and the fact that you had to put your caravan at 90 degrees to the peg and your awning would be almost on the tarmac, I would suggest these pitches are not fit for purpose and certainly not for a caravan with awning. We have a dog and were very impressed with the fully enclosed, safe dog walk. However the dog walk is at the bottom end of the site, next to the playing field and lighting at that end of the site is minimal so we suggested to the warden that a little bit of extra lighting in the dog walk field would be good as it is pitch black down there. The response was, "Take a torch!" Whilst that might be Caravan Club policy a more supportive response might have been, "Thank you, we will look into it." Although wardens did their jobs efficiently they did not choose to communicate!

Great location

Great site well run and nicely kept...wardens helpful and pleasant on all contacts made. This is a large site with separate areas one the grass and the other hard standing. The facilities seem sparse although beautifully kept as per CC standard, there just doesn't seem enough for a site this size....it is the first time I have had to queue for a toilet and a shower. The site does not have a shop or garage close by so it's rather surprising the site shop only offers a meagre supply of goods.....an opportunity missed. The Centenary Site in the New Forest could give some tips here theirs offers lots of goodies and treats. We enjoyed our stay and will return, so much to see and enjoy.

Nice site with friendly staff.

This site is well laid out and has level hard standing for caravans. Facilities for water etc is convenient and all spotlessly clean. The dog walking area is very good. We have two negative points : one being the wifi signal which was unreliable, and the other being awakened early morning by a reversing alarm on a machine in a nearby quarry or recycling centre. Having said the above we will be back next year.

Nice site in good location

We had an enjoyable time at this site. Its well placed for Touring the area and the site is very well kept & facilities kept spotless. We had had Hardstanding pitch which was fine but noticed the grass pitches metioned in previous post and agree that they are not suitable for an awning due to being too close to the road.

good, well laid out site with spotless facilities

This is a good, well laid out site with spotless facilities. There are several pitching areas so has a less open feel than some other sites of a similar size - which is good. I can only agree with earlier comments that the wardens, although efficient and hard-working, don't seem to appreciate they are in the hospitality business. No complaint as such but not a friendly welcome to new arrivals.

3 night stay on unsuitable pitch

Before I complain about certain pitches on grass,l must say this is a lovely site, very clean and in a good position for touring local Dorset area. We booked a grass pitch with awning for our 3 night stay.  We arrived at 14.00 and on checking in were told the that only one pitch was left no 112. We were then advised to site our van 90 degrees to normal at peg with awning facing the road and car parked sideways in line with drawbar because of narrow pitch. Well my caravan is 6.8 metres long the car is 5.5 metres making 12.3 metres total and the pegs were closer together than that. Then our awning if erected would be touching the Tarmac road. The storm straps would need to be somehow fixed into the Tarmac road awaiting a car or caravan to demolish them. This situation applied to pitch no 112,113,114,115 and 116 and in my opinion these pitches are not suitable for purpose. We still enjoyed our stay, but the club need to only allow very small cars and caravans on these pitches and certainly no awnings. Rant over, but overall a lovely site.
