We booked one night as first stop from Sussex to Scotland. Great quiet site clean and well run with really friendly helpful warden team. Good dog walks along side of the stream. Well worth a visit.
One of our favourite sites
First time we had been here and it’s definitely one of the best sites we have been to. Beautiful location set in woods with some lovely secluded pitches. Its close to Kendal for supermarkets and petrol and less than half an hour to Windermere , Ambleside etc.The road in does have a lot of potholes but is easy to drive along with passing places.
The wardens were superb ,very friendly and helpful and keep the site immaculate. Plenty of water points around the site. The laundrette was very useful , tokens are bought at reception.TV reception was poor .
Lovely farm shop and cafe a short walk away and a longer walk along the river into Kendal.
Will definitely go again
Bank holiday fun
We booked this site over the bank holiday weekend and it was full so everything was tested to the max.
The wardens where always flying around ready to help and kept a smile on there face even when people where turning up 2 hours early and expecting to be accommodated ! I watched one getting irate and rude to them but he just stayed polite and smiled.
The pitches are set in bays in the woods so it is dark all the time they are also over three levels so if you struggle with your legs I would give this one a miss.
There is a great pub that takes dogs and does nice food 20 mins away and there is a farm shop you can walk down a track to that serves amazing milkshake so give it a try.
We also booked a taxi into Kendal they take dogs so we had a day out there we really enjoyed are stay and I would return but if your a sun worshiper it’s not for you.
Concerns
The access road has many deep potholes which could damage your vehicle.
WiFi is very unreliable.
TV is very poor.
Lovely and Quiet
Lovely site, with lovely wardens. Nothing is to much bother. My booking was a bit of a miss match with awning and non awning pitches over 8 nights. Sue managed to sort me out after the first night for an awning pitch which is what I had really wanted. On the day I was leaving I had bikes to put on the roof of my car. I had managed to struggle and get them down but did not have enough muscle to put them back up. I was travelling on my own as husband had had to go home for work. Mick came to my rescue along with a gentleman called Jeff on pitch 30. So thank you to you both for the help. The site had so many lovely walks straight from site. Even watched owls flying above me from tree to tree. Great site.
Lovely site
This site had everything we look for - peaceful, a beautiful setting, with easy access to walks and pubs. We booked a non-awning pitch and found one with just one pitch beside it which was unoccupied the whole time we were there so it felt like we had our own private pitch surrounded by trees, just up from the river. It's a leisurely walk to the Strickland Arms for good beer and food and it's easy to walk alongside the river into Kendal for a wider selection of pubs. Didn't have any problem with the access road at all.
Fantastic introduction to Club sites
This was our first ever stay at a club site and we were not disappointed. I was aware that this was a "marmite" site but fortunately we love marmite. We had no problems accessing the site in our 8ft wide 8.2m long caravan down the narrow lane, in fact we didn't find it particularly narrow at all, yes there are some pot holes but they are fairly simple to either avoid or just go over slowly. We were very warmly welcomed by very friendly and helpful wardens and because of the size of our outfit a suitable pitch was allocated to us. We were very happy with our spacious pitch, we love the way the site is laid out because it makes it feel like it is much smaller. We were very fortunate to have lovely neighbours for the whole two weeks we were there. The facilities nearest to us were spotlessly clean and in great condition. Unfortunately the playground was closed but the children amused themselves cycling round the site and playing in the river. The only criticism is that the reception had no shop, the only products for sale were toilet fluid and some very useful printed maps of walks from the site. The location is great for exploring but just bear in mind that it is pretty much a minimum of an hour to get to any of the main Lake District locations apart from Windermere which is about half an hour but very busy when we went.
All in all we loved our stay and will happily go back.
Friendly and warm welcome.
After the friendly welcome ,we had a lovely 2 days here. Facilities are super clean, water and Moho facilities are all nearby. Lovely walks ,shame we had bad weather ,but still enjoyed exploring through the woodland.
Will definitely come again . Such super friendly wardens ,make you feel so welcome . Thank you .
Warm welcome!
We were impressed by the warmth of the welcome and the friendliness of the staff at this site.
It's a great site for dog owners, though because we don't have a dog we did find it a bit noisy at times!
The site is so different from any other we have stayed on because of the woodland setting and the vast expanses of gravel between pitches, and it's very hard to get a pitch that's not under trees with the inevitable extra noise on a wet week, but all that said we rather liked it. All the facilities were kept very clean, and the natural feel of the site together with lots of good walks, both short and longer, was pleasing.
The approach road is a real mess, with some very deep potholes, and it takes some navigating.
To be honest, our main concern at this site was the speed at which some members drove round the site, showing little concern for others. This is not to do with the site as such, except the layout perhaps encourages faster speeds.... so more signage perhaps?
We will probably return as its convenient for us.
A beautiful site in a beautiful location.
Great site for dogs with paths through the forest. The last quarter mile is difficult with very poor road and pot holes everywhere. Single track with passing places but cars parked in them. Make sure you arrive at the correct time as you do not want to meet anybody coming the other way. You drive around through the forest to find somewhere to pitch. Tests your driving skills with some of the bends and bridges to cross but it is wide enough to get a caravan round. Might be difficult for a large motor home. Take some rock pegs as the ground is very hard.
Toilet and showers are excellent.
Going again next year.
