Peaceful and idyllic

A wonderful site in the heart of woodland full of wild flowers and birds. Lots of excellent walks direct from site plus the higher Lakeland fells are not far away. A haven for dogs and their owners. Located on the edge of the Lake District but so much more peaceful than the honeypot areas of Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick. The Strickland Arms pub nearby is perfect for an end of walk drink or good meal. Dog friendly.

An absolute gem!

We visited Kendal for one night on our way from Gloucestershire to Scotland. Never been before but what a gem of a site! For those who don't like the regimented rows of vans on some club sites, this might be for you. Caravans, motor homes and campers are nestled in small groups in woodland. The site is on many levels and the pitches are gravelled but may not all be completely level so levelling blocks/ramps may be required. The site is picturesque with a watercourse running through it and when we were there, there was an abundance of wild garlic, bluebells and May and the scents were lovely. TV reception on our pitch, (100), was fine as was internet on 3/4G. The toilet blocks are quite small but perfectly adequate and as we have come to expect at CAMC sites, spotless. There is a good 30 minute walk from the site to the excellent Strickland Arms pub which is mainly level and easy especially in dry weather. (There are two fields to cross). We were blessed with lovely spring weather so maybe that has influenced this review but we loved the site and it's on the list to return.

Gem of a site

Here for Easter weekend and what a very nice site indeed. Before coming I read most off the reviews on here, and I try and keep an open mind. Firstly the road coming in and the potholes, cant comment on previous as it's now been tarmaced and is all good. Tv reception and internet for me, pitched in the middle near the toilet blocks, no issues using the vans arial and phone. Tv picture broke a little but mostly very good. I did try the on site arial on the post, but these dont seem to work, certainly not on my pitch. Otherwise no issue. People whinged about the noise from the road and from other campers. Sorry but just dont get it. Might be different at the top end who knows, but this is a main dual carriageway so expected, suggest embracing it. I certainly had no issues with any noise. Finding a pitch on arrival can ne a little daunting as it is a maze of secluded enclaves so for me either just take what comes like we did, or send out a recce on foot. Either way, no pitch seemed to bad, although bring levellers as some pitches are on a slope, but not all. Kendal, a short drive away and plenty to do there shopping wise, with a choice of supermarkets like Aldi, Morrisons, asda only 10 min drive away. Didn't use the bus service which is advertised so cant comment more than to say there is one. Taxi, believe £12 one way to kendal, phone numbers in the site office. If your a walker then plenty of walks everywhere and kendal will probably take you around an hr or so. As for the route, same as bikes so standby. Cycling, nothing much advertised from the site. If Cycling to kendal, 3 options. 1. Follow the dog walk out of the bottom off the site and follow the river Kent. We did this and it's very precarious and certainly better if your young and agile, plenty of lifting the bikes over styles ect. 2, out of the campsite entrance and left over the footbridge, left again and through the fields just follow your nose and the river, cant go wrong, still got some styles to negotiate though, We rode to the village off Natland before dropping into kendal. 3rd option and probably the best but we didnt use it. Out of the campsite entrance and head for the farm shop, (signposted). Once there, exit onto the dual carriageway turning right onto the FOOTPATH and stick to it. Looks safe and easy all the way to kendal. If you fancy a nice walk or cycle further afield we can recommend going to Sizurgh castle, we didnt go inside but the gardens are nice. Plenty of walks and bridleways behind the castle. We rode from the castle to Brigsteer stopping at the wheatsheaf Inn for a coffee. Looks a nice pub for food too. Then cycled a sort off circular route to the village off Levens and back to the local pub, The Strickland Arm for a pint. Looks a nice pub, but we didn't eat there. Hope I've covered most things, but if not im sure it'll all work out. Very nice site and we'll certainly be back soon. Dave & Tracy

Wi fi 😡

Lovely spot but wi fi diabolical in this day and age. Whilst the guy on the phone tried many options to get me connected, this only worked if I walked to reception, got connected there but by the time I had walked back to my van soon lost connection. Obviously one of the reason given was there was a lot of people using the wi fi.However in the 21st century with much improved technology this should not be an issue. Needs addressing/sorting, more sustainable equipment required. Overall enjoyed our short stay.

Beautiful spot in the woods

We’re touring the UK and decided to stop off for two weeks at Kendal. The staff were extremely friendly and very chilled out. The site is a gorgeous higgledy piggledy mix of pitches, some surrounded by woodland flowers and at the upper part of the site you’re nestled in the woods. The most beautiful river runs through the site and you will be spoilt for choice with dog walks. A farm shop is just a hop, skip and jump from the site, which is handy as the selection of groceries on site can only be purchased with cash. The only little niggle is the noise from the nearby main road, but you soon zone that out after a few days. You’ll get an excellent WiFi signal with EE.

First Visit to Kendal Club Site.

First visit to kendal club site in September 21. this site was easy to find was just off motorway J36 of m6 . loverly reception greetings from warden's not your usual club site set on the grounds of an old gunpowder mill, there is a river that runs down one side of the site. toilet facilities are very clean. TV & WiFi very poor reception , pitches mostly hard standing surround by trees in little alcoves . plenty of dog walks round site, this is a big site easy to get lost. will return next year really enjoyed this site.

Secluded Pitches

First stay here. Pitches not in rows but in little enclaves scattered amongst the trees. Really liked this. Very easy to access the Lakes or the peninsula - as just off major routes close by. Farm shop with restaurant close by - really nice food including cooked breakfasts. Facilities very clean.

Great Location poor facilities

This is a great site , one of my favourites. the walks from site are splendid. Sizergh castle and Levens Hall are within walking distance and are spectacular places to visit. Walks around the site and river are attractive. Ask the Warden for an information sheet on the Gunpowder works, ruins of which cover the site; fascinating. The only downsides are the lack of a shop on site; The internet access is abysmal and don't expect the plug in TV to work further up the site. This includes all the serviced pitches. You may think you have paid for this facility but you will be told in no uncertain terms that you have not, so hard luck. Dogs off leads and barking are a common problem, never addressed. Yes the approach road is dreadful but you're missing a treat if you let that put you off.

Dark

Sorry if repeating what others have said. It’s a pretty site, very rural but not far from M6. Because it’s set in beautiful ancient NT woods it is dark, that said if you walk along the river to Kendal you’re soon out of the woods and in open countryside, it’s a lovely walk but it is over 3 miles each way. The farm shop and cafe is close by and looked lovely but didn’t use, same for the pub. If you’re like us, in a motorhome, it’s bit remote, no bus service, 2 nights was enough.
