Have stayed here plenty of times, and love the site

I have stayed here plenty of times and love it. I did have an issue with a grumpy site warden ( as did others) but he has long gone and things have improved 10 fold. Wifi is an issue here, but hopefully this will get sorted out. The site is clean, toilets spotless, and lots of walks to go on out of the site. Remember your caravaners......... Get the boots on and take an adventure, the wardens will help you with routes... just ask. I booking again for this week, so will be staying Wednesday and Thursday night. See you again.

Redressing the balance?

Whilst understanding the points raised by recent reviewers, we come away to get away from technology so wi-fi is not an issue and we don't have a dog, just enjoy other people's! We had a lovely week with the advantage of superb weather and enjoyed the peacefulness and pleasant surroundings on site. Our bird-feeder provided entertainment for our next door neighbours as well with regular visits from coal, blue and great tits, nuthatch, chaffinch, robin and even a pair of jays one day. Facilities immaculate.

Disillusioned

We have used this site on three occasions and whilst the site itself is clean and tidy there is a significant issue with the WI-Fi.   The Wi-Fi service on this site is very very poor.  On each occasion we have visited we have been told it is out of order not just for a day - but for the whole of the three week duration of our stay.  In this day and age the service is not good enough. Please be aware there can also be an issue with barking dogs as it is a 'dog friendly site'.

Dissapointment

Arrived to yet again find a site with a very narrow access road, understand the 12 o'clock arrival rule. Some people don't as we saw arrivals before 12.Being a dog owner like many on the site the dog walk was a joke and a health and safety hazard waiting for an accident to happen, but being off site no liability for the club. How they expect you to go into a wood when it is dark and clean up after your dog beggars believe. Next to the site is a small field not being used by anyone this could easily be used if the club got its finger out and rented the land. Overall the site was ok but I will NOT be using it again.

Peaceful and tranquil

Lovely site, excellent location for trips to southern lakes and good for walking locally. Toilets are excellent, nice and warm, and wardens are friendly. The only gripe, yes you have to have one is, we where pitches at bottom of site and it made you puff going uphill, when going to the toilet block but it was great coming back.

A great introduction to Cumbria

Just returned home from 12 days at Meathop Fell, and our first stay in Cumbria/The Lakes. Everyone said 'bring your waterproofs' - so we did, complete with wellies etc - did we need them ? No ! With the exception of our first night and following morning when we had light rain, and our last but one night, when the heavens opened, the weather was brilliant ! The site is well situated for exploring the southern lakes and small towns, easily accessible, and having visited Grange, and nearby Cartmel several times I think we both had a considerable increase in body weight! Grange has a butcher to die for, and Cartmel, the home of sticky toffee pudding needs no further explanation !! As for the site - excellent location, quiet and peaceful, with a very nice hotel/bar 5 mins stroll away. Staff could not be faulted and the 'facilities' were spotless at all times. The site is well laid out but in my humble opinion a tree surgeon could be well employed for a few days ! The site is well covered offering much shade, no doubt appreciated in the height of summer, not so good in the autumn. Some of the pitches had quite a slope, but there are plentiful blocks around for levelling purposes, so no real problem. All in all, a great break, and we will return at some stage to explore the north of the county !

Best shower facilities ever

Easy to find. Helpful friendly staff. Pitches a bit all over the place,a bit too close together in places the majority under trees (watch out when it rains)! Not many level pitches and they seemed rather unkept. It would have been a nice gesture if we had been advised that the pitch we had chosen was prone to flooding as we returned one day to find the awning full of water. The shower block was excellent the best Caravan Club facilities we've ever come across, large roomy shower cubicles with a balance bar in each cubicle for those who may be unsteady on their feet, spotless clean, well done. Lovely hotel just a walk away from the site, well worth a visit, food was excellent.Ideal central point for visiting the lakes.

Worth a visit

Stayed here for 2 nights. The site is very clean with spotless showering facilities. Although the site lacked a view, we liked the fact it was organised in bays separated by trees & hedges so it felt you were in a small site. The site itself was very quiet but although the main road is some distance away, we could hear the drone of traffic throughout the night until we pulled down the roof of our campervan, probably not a problem for motor homes or caravans. Hotel just up the lane served very acceptable food (my husband said the sea bass was particularly good) and as we were able to walk back we could both enjoy a drink. Dog walks along the lanes & in the wood satisfied our two lively dogs. There were paths in evidence but didn't have time to try them. Grange over Sands is delightful and so is Cartmel, Ambleside and Hawkeshead. Windermere was too busy for us but within easy reach. We would visit again.
