Lovely site

Apart from the very occasional fighter jet flying over, this is a very peaceful site.  Saying that it does keep you curious and make you move to see it. Good location to visit Lake Windermere, Bowness, Cartmel, the lakeside railway, Holker Hall and the motor museum. As well as taking the train to Morecambe or Lancaster.  All well worth a trip. Fabulous scenery. Site was spotless and nicely kept. Wardens were very helpful for days out. Kids play area looked good, although the site may not have much close by for them, although travel is easy, especially out of season. Visit this site, I am sure that you will not be disappointed.

One of our favouites

A real joy to visit this site as it is an ideal spot on our way out and back from home. Restful and quiet with Grange over Sands just a mile and 1/4 away making an ideal walk to visit the town where there are all sorts of cafes shops and interesting things to do. Feeding the ducks, geese and swans in the ornamental garden and pond, walking along the prom to a delightful cafe, Church on Sunday and coffee mornings through the week. Only drawback are the hills as my wife is in a wheelchair making me keep fit as i push her up hioll and down dale.  We really enjoy our time at Meathop and are already planning our next visit

Impressive

Meathop Fell was the very first CC site we stayed on back in the Autumn of 1999. Although we have stayed many times since, we hadn't actually been for about five years. What a fantastic site it is! The improvements made since our last visit are very impressive. The toilet block has seen a substantial makeover, with all year round caravanners well catered for with an enclosed, heated wash up/veg prep area. More hardstandings are now in place, but do not spoil the green areas of the site, although we actually stayed on a very nice grass pitch (58) ourselves. What can I say about the children's play area! When we first visited the site 16 years age, the play area consisted of a green wendy house. Today, there are pitches where the original play area was located, and a comprehensive, well designed play area is located to the bottom western edge of the site that is as good as anything I've seen on the network, certainly enough to keep most 5-13 year olds amused. Situated as it is within the boundary of the Lake District National Park, and within easy reach of all that this spectacular area has to offer, Meathop fell is a stand out site on the network. Final mention must go to the tremendous work of the wardens and assistants here for their wonderful welcome, and all their hard work in maintaining the site to the highest possible condition, bearing in mind the site was full over the August bank holiday period when we visited. Special mention too for the "site shop", which would put many a corner shop to shame with the comprehensive choice of food and essentials all available, all of which made Meathop Fell a site that we will be looking forward to returning to as soon as possible.

first time caravaners

This was our first time in our caravan so everything was new to us. The site wardens couldn't have been anymore helpful. They were lovely and even helped us to set up. The site facilities were excellent especially as we had 2 young children with us. The toilet block Was spotless. Overall we really enjoyed our first time as caravaners and will definitely return to this site.  Highly recommended!

overpriced in my opinion

Extremely quiet and peaceful, Clean tidy poorly lit at night though Stopped for two nights midweek cost about £55. Having been touring the Highlands of Scotland staying at club sites as good as if not better for between £32 and £36 for two nights. I was suprised at the price

Excellent

Our stay at Meathop Fell was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful with local information in plentiful supply. We visited several places around Windermere and found the welcome in all of the shops and restaurants very good. During our stay we also visited Morecambe to pay our respect to the Eric Morecambe statue. We were informed that the seafront area was worth a visit but not really the town. However, like most seaside resorts, it has become a little run-down, but if you're looking for bargains, the town is worth a visit. The Kings Head pub on the seafront is well worth a visit too, excellent food and drink. Carnforth was the highlight of our visit (the setting for the station scenes in Brief Encounter). Free entry and very friendly, pleasant staff. Altogether a very pleasant stay.

Friendly welcome!

I visited this lovely site for the first time earlier this month. There are lots of reasons why this is a good site. For those that like a clean, well maintained site; enjoy the location within the South Lakes; plenty of lovely walks and cycle routes nearby; you will not be disappointed. However, what made this most pleasureable for us, was the helpful, friendly and accommodating approach from the resident wardens. For me, the attitude of the wardens can make or break a holiday, and they certainly made it for us!! I think they deserve a special mention and would recommend this site without hesitation as a result.

Superb. No kids, lovely and quiet

Brilliant site and was lovely and quiet. Toilet facilities are excellent and kept very clean. The pitches are wide and spacious. If you like walking then this is a great site conveniently positioned at the foot of the Lakes. Grange itself is quaint and has enough restaurants/cafes/pubs to keep you occupied. I would go back

Tranquility with Superb Facilities, Great Cycling.

We stayed mid August and the site was quite busy.  It remained peaceful despite being nearly full.  Facilities are very new, spacious, and as usual with the Caravan Club, spotless.  There were never any queues for toilets and showers, just an occasional wait for a washing up sink but nothing significant.  It is not a particularly good site if you want to walk straight from the site. The walk to Grange-over-Sands is about 3 miles and all on lanes until you get to Grange Promenade.  We go for the cycling because from here you can do lovely rides to the north heading into Lakeland.  Get a decent OS map to find rides on quiet lanes.  Try the lanes following the NCN to Witherslack and then north to Bowland Bridge (pub and also village shop serving coffee and cakes).  For a long 35 mile hilly ride you can continue to Winster and Bowness across the ferry on Windermere, back down to Lakeside, Newby Bridge, and lanes to Cartmel and back to Grange. Or for a shorter ride of about 20 miles from Bowland Bridge return down the other side of the valley to Lindale and use the B road back to the site.  But you will need a map and be prepared to navigate.  The rewards are delightful quiet lanes with wildlife and flowers to die for.  Yes, we will go back!
