Modbury

Modbury is a very chilled and peaceful site. The whole site and toilet block are maintained to the very highest standards which is all down to the efforts of Debbie and Richard. Two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. Will look forward to returning.

Peaceful and Relaxing Site

Firstly, we didn't find the roads a problem. Typical Devon roads with passing points available. We already knew the area very well (family members live in Modbury) so were aware that the roads would be narrow in places. If you are going in the height of the summer then the roads will be busier (we went on Good Friday and the roads were fairly quiet). However, if you take it slowly it is not too stressful. Debbie and Richard were our 'knights in shining armour'! First trip out after the winter and the motor mover battery decided to give up! They managed to find us a replacement battery (the type we needed wasn't available in the shop). Next disaster! The pipe on the hot water pump burst off. Being a Bank Holiday nothing was open for us to find a replacement connector. However, Richard managed to get the connection back into the pipe (with his vice) and back onto the pump. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Modbury Campsite is the perfect location to explore South Devon with lots of beaches and walks close by. This is a fabulous site and we intend to visit again in the summer.

Returning seasonal caravanner

The first thing that must said is congratulations to Debbie and Richard for the top award for wardens at the CAMC, well done it is well deserved. This team set a standard to which others should strive to achieve. A lot as been said about the narrow roads there is no difference to the local roads then the rest of Devon it just the speeding idiots which seem to want to to get to where ever they want to before they have started whatever the cost.Drive slower and give yourself time to react to oncoming traffic and use the passing points , if 2 or 3 more points were made there would be no problems , but this is Devon after all with narrow roads through out the county As a seasonal we had plenty of time to visit the county and into Cornwall or just enjoy the quiet site and district. We intend to return 2023 for another year knowing that the site as all we need Navimoye

An excellent seasonal pitch site for exploring beautiful South Devon

You are always guaranteed a warm welcome from Richard, Debbie and Bailey who manage this site so well. Ideally located close to Dartmouth, Salcombe, Bigbury Bay, Plymouth, Dartmoor and a wonderful coastline. The lanes of Devon never cease to amaze and are best explored via bike (electric or other), moped or car because they are very narrow. There is no bus stop nearby but there are two good walks to California Cross (30 min) where there is a pub, garage and Spar shop, whilst another footpath takes you to Modbury itself (55 min) across the rolling Devon countryside. Modbury has three pubs, Co-op, and some very interesting shops. I enjoyed my stay so much that I self-published an eBook entitled 'Modbury Tales' that recorded the exploration of the area on my moped, extensive photographs and 12 short stories. Ideal for people looking for a relaxing stay but within convenient distance of memorable locations.

An excellent spot for a peaceful break

This is a lovely site, peaceful & spacious. Don't be put off by the narrow approach road, take it slowly and you will soon reach the site. If you like to go out & about, the drive becomes familiar & a lot easier. The site has a wonderful dog field, plenty of space for my whippet to run & play off lead. The 1/2 hour walk to the Cali Inn (California Inn) is rough under foot and varied in gradient, but the pub is worth the walk serving excellent home made food. It welcomes dogs too, which is a big bonus. I took the lovely cross country walk to the town of Modbury, dodging showers on the way. A good butcher & post office were all I visited, but I am sure there is more to see. The site wardens are very friendly and hospitable. Everything was spotlessly clean & beautifully kept. In all an excellent site that I shall visit again.

Peaceful, Relaxing & Immaculate

We have just spent a lovely week at Modbury. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the wardens are a credit to the site and work non stop keeping everything looking tip top. We were within 20-40 mins drive of most places we wanted to visit, Hope Cove, Salcombe, Dartmoor, Dartmouth, Mothecombe. We had a really good week and were very lucky with the weather. This site is very underused and we would recommend it to anyone who wants a peaceful break and a base to explore South Devon from. Also, this site does not seem as rules orientated as other sites.

Lovely laid back site

Really enjoyed this site and have been a few times now. Location is excellent close to some lovely places and the site feels more relaxed than most others with a more laid back approach to guests and less rules. I wish all sites could be more chilled with less rules and feel a bit more like real camping in the wilds than checking into a motel. Great site, great attitude, great location.

One of the best

The wardens Debbie and Richard are lovely people, very helpful and well informed. The site was immaculate and the huge dog field was to die for. The access road from the A38 narrows in places but we had no difficulty in getting to the site with the occasional stop while cars passed. The out bound journey saw us come face to face with a tractor and trailer at a narrow section but the friendly farmer emmediately reversed to a pull in. No drama. Visits to Kingsbridge ,national trust Saltram and Salcombe were a pleasure.

Great site - great location

Lovely site , perfectly maintained and run by the fantastic and friendly wardens. Great location, 10 minutes from the A38, 20 minutes to Salcombe or Bigbury on sea and about 30 minutes to Plymouth. Modbury is just down the road which is nice to visit and there is a SPAR less than a mile form the site gates. Would highly recommend.
