A peaceful rural site

We had a great stay here at the end of April, and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of the site. There were bluebells flowering on the Devon banks and a few areas with longer grass to encourage wildlife. The location is good for visiting both coast and countryside. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. We are going back for another visit soon.

Just returned from a16 night stay and can’t speak highly enough of the warm reception by Debbie and Richard and their dog Bailey. They are more like hosts than wardens. This is a picturesque site well maintained with lovely views of the Devon countryside. Anyone wishing to come here will enjoy a peaceful stay and is a very good base from which to explore the region.

worth the drive

stayed here when it was named broad park, its a lovely site with a vg dog field. Access to the site via narrow lanes was a little challenging with a bigger caravan but the site is worth it

ABOUT MODBURY

Having just spent five day at the Modbury site ,just a few thoughts. The site is one of C.C. quieter sites which we both enjoy., thanks to Debbi and Richard(wardens on duty when staying) the site and all facilities where spotless and grass area looked very tidy in the very wet conditions. The dog walking area is one of the best on the Club sites. Do wish ALL dog owners would pick up after their dogs. Will be returning to site. Having read the eviews on the site access roads I can not see for the life of me why anybody would write reviews so far from facts. Yes the road to Modbury is a standard Devon B class road, which when laid was worked well for Farm traffic and the odd Steam Engine but now in the 21 Centenary it is a little tight in places but still passable with both Caravans and Motor Homes. On the in bound trips we passed various cars, vans 7.5 tonnes lorry and the School bus. On the Home trip we again meet cars, vans and just for a change the Mobile Library going to Modbury, all vehicles passed will no trouble. May I suggest that member do not listen to miss informed reviews and visit this great site to make up thier own minds. To the earlier reviews might I recommend the very good towing course which the Club run, this would surely mean member would not only the skill set too use Country roads but also the confidence to do same Erik M. First experience of caravan and motorhome site.

The warm welcome from Debbie, Richard and Bailey the dog, their friendliness and helpfulness throughout our stay was great. The site itself was well kept and although we used our own on board facilities we could see that the facility block was clean and well maintained. The area itself is one of our favourite areas to visit. After leaving the A38 the roads can be a bit narrow in places but with care we’re not a problem. Will definitely go on our list to visit again.

Peaceful site

Just returned form a 7 night stay. The site is beautifully kept, and the wardens very friendly and helpful. A great off lead dog walk. No adverse comment to make and we found the site very central to the South Hams area. There is however a small fly in the ointment with access down what is, in parts, a narrow lane, typical of rural Devon, and in most cases, why we go there. However, this is by no means insurmountable. There are effectively only two short narrow stretches of about half a mile each where passing is tricky. For much of the lane, you get a decent view of what's coming. Sound your horn regularly and keep sounding it, and watch where the skid marks are on the road. That tells you in advance where the tricky parts are. On my way from the site back home, driving a 6.3 metre motorhome, I met a large lorry, and we managed to pass each other without too much difficulty in one of the narrow stretches of the lane. I can imagine it's a challenge towing a caravan being that much longer in total. All I can say is if you take your time and be ready well in advance, it is do-able. Having said all that, there is no denying its an issue, but one which neither the club nor the wardens can do much about. It's Devon!! Modbury is a nice little town with a co-op and a couple of decent pubs, and for milk, papers and drinks, the petrol station you pass on the way into the site is well stocked and is only 5 minutes drive. We had a lovely week.

Our first stay in this stunning area!

The journey to this amazing tranquil site, for a first night away in this area was straight forward and easily accessible for us in our VW T5 - giving us many scenic view points en route from mid Devon- super friendly hosts who were out and about keeping the site in great clean order- due to the current release of restrictions we were relieved that all was managed clearly making a stay here as stress free as possible. The site had plenty of choice pitches to choose from with all you needed in easy reach. We sat out to watch the setting sun after a quick cycle around the lanes to see some of the amazing views and to get our bearings, so much so we have decided this will be a regular stop as so much on offer here. A peaceful night with birdsong and sunshine to wake up to made a perfect way to start the day- only wished we could stay for longer this time- we will return soon!

Nice site for exploring the region

A nice, peaceful, smaller site well placed for exploring this area of Devon. The site itself is well kept and the staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities were all clean and the Covid-19 precautions were well managed and clear. Access roads are fine if you take it carefully; the access route from the south is shorter and less steep than leaving the main road at Modbury itself. It does amuse me that some fellow members feel the need to complain about surrounding roads when reviewing a site; something that the staff and the Club can do nothing about! Comment by all means to alert members to access requirements, but removing stars from a review? The site is in Devon, well known for it's country lanes that require a modicum of patience, and dare I say skill and experience if towing a larger unit, to navigate.

poor access to average site

as per many other reviews I would strongly suggest that unless you are a very confident driver and don't worry too much about your caravan then a drive from the main road to the site is a perilous journey. The lanes with passing places are regularly used by large articulated lorries. Leaving the site on a Sunday morning was very busy with many cars showing little regard to other road users. I know this is out of control of the site but be warned. Road access is poor. Site ok when you get there.

Site Access

Unfortunately the access to/from this site from the A38 is exceptionally stressful. I departed the site at about 10am and expected to be able to get to the A38 without too much traffic approaching from the other direction. This was not the case. The volume of traffic was extremely high. This included delivery vans, cars and then a refuse collection lorry appeared over the brow of a hill on a bend at the narrowest part of the road taking up three quarters of the width of the road. No passing places were available and due to volume of traffic reversing was not an option. The occupants of the refuse lorry remained glued to their seats. My only option was to unhitch the caravan and manually manouvre the caravan to enable the lorry to move on. Fortunately one other driver did assist but as a solo traveller this can be very challenging as the use of mirrors is impossible. There are no passing places with the exception of field entrances and entrances to other properties. None are long enough for car and caravan. For this reason alone I would not use this site again.
