Another visit

4 nights end of Sept 17. This is our 2nd visit to the site, it was as expected very clean and tidy. We were quickly booked in and soon pitched up. The dog walk is superb as it is a large grassed area where your furry friend can run around freely due to it being fenced off, I do wish though that the irresponsible dog owners would pick up after their animals as there is a poo bin actually within the area. The grounds are very well kept and the wardens were very helpful when an elderly gents caravan came detached from his car as he was leaving (luckily not an expensive mishap). I understand that the site is getting a revamp' this winter, I really hope so as the toilet blocks although very clean are very dated and need bringing back the more modern facilities that we see on newer sites. All in all though a very nice stay and we will be back next season.

Late Summer Week in Yorkshire.

We spent a week on this site in mid September and it was full every day which says a lot for the site. The facilities were always very clean and warm. The wardens were really friendly and gave good advice. Unfortunately they can't control the weather and we had an awful lot of rain most nights and the pitch that we were on No,3 regularly flooded. This is something the site could look at during the refurbishment, which we understand is happening this winter. It says in the club book the bus stop is 650 yards from the site, what is doesn't say is that it is downhill all the way, which is good. The main problem is coming back, it is then 650 yards uphill and I mean uphill. It is not known as cardiac hill for no reason, it doesn't matter to the caravaners as they have their cars and it doesn't really affect the motorhomers who have additional transport. It does affect the elderly motorhomers. Now the Club is called the Caravan and Motorhome Club I think the compilers should start to address the sites from the elderly motorhomers perspective.

Lots to like about this site

The site staff are excellent, very friendly and welcoming. They work very hard to keep this large site looking good - all credit to them. The location is excellent, near enough to the coast to be able to take advantage of all there is to do, although we could give Scarborough itself a miss. The nearby Forge Valley is a pleasant drive - stop at the car park where the bird feeders are located to see a good selection of birds and the ever present cheeky squirrels. This is a family friendly site and as such during the school holidays there are lots of kids and it can sometimes be a bit noisy so be prepared for that and the cycling around the site can sometimes get a bit much especially from the older kids who frequently travel in gangs. The play facilities are good and spacious and situated away from the pitches which is a good idea as the kids do regard it as their meeting place. As seems to be the norm on sites nowadays there are lots of dogs and we have to ask why some owners think it is acceptable to let their dogs wee wherever they like on site whilst en route to the dog walk? This is child friendly site and lots of children do play on the grass around the pitches. Overall this is a good site and out of school holidays we would say it's an excellent site and we will return in the future.

Overall a good site.

A nicely laid out large site with good pitches, some of which are nicely sheltered by trees. The showers and toilet blocks are a bit shabby and really need an upgrade. Plenty to see and do nearby such as Scarborough (which I found a bit tacky), Robin Hoods Bay (great), Filey (lovely with great beaches) and Whitby (alright). Good attractions close by such as the Wolds Lavender Farm and Castle Howard. There is a great dog walk area on site and some cracking walk directly from the site. I can recommend the Forge Valley Inn at the bottom of the road for food and a good pint of beer. The only minus for me was the number of kids flying about on bikes, there seemed to be a lot of them. Through the day this is no problem and it is great to see them all playing and having fun, but they were still howling round most nights up to midnight and appeared to only have one volume setting, that being excessively loud and screaming at the tops of their voices to speak to someone two feet away All in all a good site but for the high price you pay for it I left feeling that it could, and should have left a bit more of an impression.

Expensive

Went in July 2017 for one week. The site was full therefore large long waits at the showers wash up etc. not many water points rubbish bins for the amount of people the site attracts. on site shop poorly stocked and very expensive just like the fees. Shower blocks very much in need of overhaul. Located in a fabulous part of the country with so much to do. Very good pub at the bottom of the road 10 mins walk 2 for £10 menu and a take away.

Great site but far too expensive

This will be the first year we haven't been to West Ayton in 15 years of caravanning, due to the high fees. Although the site is excellent we feel we have been priced out of going as a family in what should be a family focused site.

Excellent site for families

We loved this site. It has great facilities and large pitches that easily accommodate a large awning, van and car. Our grandchildren loved the play area. The dog walk is great. The whole site is very well laid out and a pleasant place to be. Staff are very friendly and efficient at check in and out. The toilet blocks are very well maintained. We couldn't fault it.

Good site

This a good site reasonably located in the countryside behind Scarbourgh. The facilities require a little of the profits that the CAMC (formed in 2017 not 1907) have spending on them and maybe provide more, as they can become very busy and queues forming. The site staff are excellent and very helpful. The hardstandings and approuch areas to the smaller pitch areas are formed with large sized dark granite stones which in some areas give the appearance of a car park. However, the main problem I personally found with these stones was the tyres of the caravan picked up some of them and these in turn jammed between the motormover drive wheels and the casing completely jamming the mover. We would, and will return, but maybe in a less busy time.

Without doubt, the best caravan club site we have stayed on.

It isn't difficult to gauge from the title of this review that we absolutely loved our stay at West Ayton. The staff were on hand and extremely friendly and full of good advice, the facilities (of which there are many) are all of a good quality and highly maintained by the dedicated wardens. We stayed for a week with our two small children (3 and 5 yrs) and our little dog and they were all catered for. The children had a choice of two parks to play in, one conveniently next to the dog walking area so I could have a stroll through the field with the dog while my partner played in the park with the children and it was an event that quickly become routine to tire out the children! Both parks are well maintain to the extent of daily cleaning of the swings (who else does that?!). There is a fish and chip van that visits on a Friday evening and Scarborough is only 15 minute drive away. Lots to do nearby in all directions from the site making it perfectly situated for a fantastic family holiday. We will definitely be coming back to West Ayton, which is without doubt the best site we have stayed on so far.

Super site

Something to suit everyone at this lovely site, which is kept beautifully clean and tidy by the busy wardens. There's a large play area for ball games etc, an adventure playground, games room, as well as a second playground for young children. Dog owners love the fenced in dog walking area where dogs can safely run off lead. The site is perfectly located for trips to the coast or inland to many pretty moors villages, with a good bus service just a few minutes walk from the site. We enjoyed our recent stay and will definitely be visiting again.
