Spacious site with good facilities

Stayed here over a very wet, windy and unseasonably cold Easter weekend. 2nd visit to the site as find it very convenient for Scarborough and local visitor attractions. Good local pubs, Spar and petrol station too. The site is big but the pitches are large and the 2 toilet blocks perfectly decent so it doesnt feel crowded. Although the weather was horrible we found plenty to do in the local area, our 9 year old really enjoyed the pool with flumes in Bridlington and the amusements in Scarborough. The slightly aged looking Hollywood cinema was perfect on a wet day and Eden Camp really interesting for all of us. Only negative was our pitch (93) which got surprisingly waterlogged for hard standing compared with other pitches. Didn't bother us but would have been an issue for people who have lots of stuff in their awning. Would stay here again

No playground...

We have been coming here for about 10 years. We arrived yesterday (good Friday) to find that the main play park is closed, the sine says it has been vandalised. I asked the Warden what was going on as my children were very disappointed and I was told that it was vandalised last year. I explained that I had come to the site because of the facilities and we were not told informed by the club there was no park available and that the club had all winter to fix it. Then the truth came out..... The Club would not spend money to fix it as the site was supposed to be getting redeveloped but the plans were now on hold. There is an adventure course at the back of the field but this is too big for small children and too far for then to walk in their own. From were we normally pitch you can see the now closed park. Our children are bored watching TV. Thanks....

Lovely autumn break

We really enjoyed our late season stay at West Ayton. Right from our arrival until we handed in our gate key the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The site pitches are nicely arranged so you don’t feel on top of your neighbours. The site was attractive & peaceful, and the toilet block spotless each time we visited it.

Brilliant Site with Fab Wardens

this was our first time at this site and after a very long journey we arrived to lovely wardens. More than happy to help and give advice of best pitch for our long caravan. We pitched in the small cul-de-sac behind the reception and found it easy to pitch up and get connected. The facilities were close by and we found them clean and always open ( shame that there were some disgraceful and down right idiotic people that felt the need to steal toilet rolls from both the mens and ladies toilets!!). We had a lovely meal in the pub at the bottom of the hill. Lovely home cooked meals and discount if you show you club card too! and they allow dogs in one part too ( we are not dog owners but nice if you do). the site was very busy but was very very quiet. Generally a lovely site and we will definitely return if we wish to visit the area again. Oh and you must visit staithes too.... Lovely town with a lovely beach, fish and chips, ice creams and little shops!

Not best pleased

For the first time in my forty plus years in the Caravan Club, (now Caravan and Motorhome club) I have need to be both angry and upset. For reasons best known to the warden or assistant warden, he thought it was being very considerate to get his leaf blower out at 10.00 on a Sunday morning. In all my years I have never heard a blower make so much noise. I can only assume that the engine must have come out of a Concorde. Not only was it a Sunday, but it was very windy indeed. As soon as the leaves were blown one way, the wind blew them back again. Now most of us would abandon the job as nothing was being achieved. other than hack just about everybody on site off. I complained bitterly about this, but what was my reward, you may ask? 20 minutes later, 2 wardens with lawn mowers turned up and started to cut every blade of grass around our van. Again I asked them quite why they were doing this on a Sunday? The reply was they were behind. So clearly I was being punished for daring to complain about their total thoughtlessness. Monday came, we had no wind at all, the sun was shining, it was a great day. 75+% of the weekend members had gone home, most likely with a headache. Now where was leaf blower man? nowhere to be seen, nor heard of for that matter. Where were the two lawn mower men, nowhere to be seen. Very odd, don't you think. I found the attitude of these individuals both by their actions and what they said to me, to be totally unacceptable. These two ruined our stay on the site, so much so we went off to the Camping and Caravan Club, for some peace and quiet four days early. If you want to be treated in this manner, then Scarborough West Ayton is the site for you. We will never darken their doorstep every again.

Lovely but a bit dated

We stayed here for a week in October 2017, as usual for a Club site the Wardens are excellent, the pitches are nicely spaced out and it is well kept. The toilet blocks are looking a bit dated and could really do with a bit of modernisation. The site shop is not a shop in my opinion, it stocks virtually nothing. But the village is only a 1/2 mile walk away where there is a well stocked Spar shop and I must mention Ye Old Forge Inn, which offers excellent food, good beer, is very friendly and even offers 10% discount on food on producing your Club Card, they even welcome dogs. The site is well situated for getting out and about, 4.5 miles from Scarborough and just off the main road, to explore the North Yorks Moors National Park. I would go back here again and if the shop and Toilets had some attention, I would give this 5 stars

A holiday to remember

This was the first of what we have decided to be many future stays at West Ayton. From the moment we arrived to the time of departure, the Site Team were amazing, really helpful, and it was obvious just how much they care about the site. The facilities were second to none, especially for those of us who have Fur Babies. What is often a stressful time worrying about our four legged family - there was no worries at this site. Our dogs were well catered for as much as us. Even the wet weather didn't put a dampener on our stay. A very well thought out site, the devil is in the detail and this team have thought of everything. Looking forward to our next visit. Definitely recommended as a must stay in UK.
