Near the Beach

Not very familiar with this part of the East Coast so thought we would give Skegness Sands a try. Stayed for four days in early June which unfortunately coincided with a cold snap, so we didn't see much sun! You are sent copious amounts of information by email prior to arrival, perhaps a little bit too much? As a result check-in was quite straight forward. Pitches were plenty big enough for our motorhome and we could have put the sun shade out if it had been needed. Some hardstanding pitches are separated by a grass finger but others are all hardstanding divided by a brick insert to mark them. The grass pitches are in their own area on a terrace which also contains children's play equipment. The toilet/shower facilities are very good but there are very limited water taps and the only chemical emptying point is at the toilet block. On the other hand it has an excellent motorhome waste point with plenty of space to park if you have to wait. The Touring Site is part of a large static park and touring guests can use the indoor swimming pool (EC) on the static park. Whilst its near to the beach I somehow feel that children could feel a bit constricted on this site. The beach is literally minutes from the site entrance and given the limited parking nearby I imagine it doesn't get quite so busy? There is little on the beach except an Arcade which also sells beach things like buckets and spades. There is also a cafe within the Arcade. Better in my view to use the cafe/restaurant on the other side of the road called The View. We used it a couple of times for coffee and a cake. At the opposite end of the road from the beach there is a handy SPAR shop and a couple of takeaways. On the main road is the bus stop with regular service into the town of Skegness so no need to take a vehicle off site.
