Underwater!

We have just returned from our 4th visit to Southport site and our 1st time pitch on the fairly recent extended side. I have mixed feelings about it, lots of positives, a few negatives. Positives are that the newer side to this wonderful site is that it is bright and airy and the pitches are huge and well spaced. Now the negatives. It has been wet, very wet in many places and the newer side suffers badly with many pitches either completely underwater or in part. The grassy areas also, in fact, we did wonder whether club had invested in a new lake feature. On arriving we were not forewarned about the lack of pitch availability due to flooding by the wardens, nor the risk of further flooding on some pitches. We were not advised that to plug in to EHU, we would have to put wellies on to access the electric points. We did find a pitch that was dry in the main but wet around the edges but decided against leaving items we would usually store under the van out as rain was expected and we didn't want any items ruining if the pitch flooded. To access most pitches you had to either walk or drive through flooded areas. The drainage really does need sorting. It seems poor value for money when pitch choice is at a minimum due to the flooded areas. There were at least 10 pitches out of action and many more with some standing water on them. Another negative was that the lovely facilities on the new side were cold. If there was any heating on it was minimal compared to the facilities on the older part of the site which were toasty warm. Lastly, having enjoyed a lovely walk out, called at reception for some milk to be told there wasn't any. Yes, the supermarkets are within easy reach of the site but we had been out for a couple of hours, didn't want to carry shopping and assumed wrongly that basics would be available at reception. We made do with our supplies, that was fine but just wanted to warn others that there are no basics available to buy on site and therefore come well stocked up or be prepared to find the shops. We had a lovely weekend apart from the flooding, no milk and cold facilities and will visit again as we think it's location is great.
