Just as good as ever

One of our favourite sites. First visit since lockdown and as previous reviewer indicated, a few changes in the arrangements, but nothing to preclude an enjoyable few days spent here. Always savour a leisurely stroll around the lake next door in the Country Park. Thanks to the wardens for managing it all so well in difficult times.

Chudders back again to great site

after a long wiat due to covoronavirus like many others pleased to get the motorhome out again. Good choice to go once again to Stover. Easy site to social dictance especially as we always use our own facilities and no toilet block etc on this site. This looks like the first review of this site after re opening. Some things have changed a bit as expected. Toilet disposal and water facilities have a queuing area to maintain social distancing but been here several days and only had to wait a couple of minutes once even though the site is pretty full. Made a mistake when choosing a pitch, initially picked a pitch with purple marker and had not read instruction hat it was a seasonal pitch, entirely my fault. Warden came over as I was setting up and politely pointed out my mistake. He even helped me to choose and move to another pitch. Booking in procedure is different. We paid by credit card by phone the day before we arrived although I think you can pull up outside reception but ring them on the number outside and give details over the phone. One warden will then come out with a pack and hand through your window. Have to say the booking in procedure is much better and quicker with no likelyhood of crowded reception office. Quite happy to pay the day before arrival, perhaps this should be the norm in future. Makes life so much easier on arrival for us and the wardens. The wardens are great on this site and some of the most helpful we have come across. Under the current circumstances they have a difficult job to do with all the new arrangements and seem to have coped well. My thanks to them Will we return, of course we weill..

Love this site!

The site wardens at Stover are helpful and keep the place looking incredible. This is the most well-maintained site we have ever stayed on - including non-club sites. Its very nicely laid out, plenty of room on all awning pitches. The site is surrounded by woods, and although next to Stover Country Park it has its own gorgeous mini dog walk in woods with a stream running through it - dogs are allowed off the lead and it's fabulous for the nosy little dogs! The site itself is tranquil but It is off a main road- if you don't live near traffic - we suggest you pitch up at the far end of the site, away from the entrance where there is nothing but squirrels to distract you if you want to get away from it all. - the benefits of the location include quick access to Dartmoor, Arts and Antiques trails of Bovey Tracey, Ashburton, the market Towns of Totnes and Newton Abbot and not far from the beaches on the South Devon Coast. It's also opposite Stover Golf Club and Trago which has an activity and fairground style amusment park to keep kids happy for hours at circa £5 for the day - inc peacocks. For us, the benefits of the location far outweigh traffic and lack of shower/toilet block. The fish and chip van on the Friday evenings is the best fish and chips we've had from a pop-up! TV signal quality like anywhere surrounded by tall trees, takes a bit of wrangling with your own aerial - sometimes we get forty channels others over 120, there is an aeriel booster in the centre of the site as well.

Clean but noisy

Stayed here for three nights mid July. The wardens are friendly and the site is very well kept and spotless. It is described as tranquil in the handbook but I didn’t find it so. It is adjacent to a very busy road with heavy traffic which builds up from around 5am and continues till well after 10pm. Not one I’ll visit again.

A lovely welcoming site

We stayed for just one night and what a lovely spacious site it is. Very friendly welcoming staff who keep the site immaculate. No toilets or showers. A lovely short dog walk area where they can be let off lead and the bonus is it isn't muddy as the paths are covered with wood chips. Yes it is by a busy road but dont let that put you off. We were on a non awning pitch and were closest to the road but it did not bother us in the slightest. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere with no noise around at all then you should give this lovely site a visit. Plenty to do in the area with Stover Country Park right next door. We would not hesitate to stay again. I will be putting a very short video tour of the site on youtube.

A well run site.

The squirrels (tree rats) were under my motorhome, but no damage done, suggest pest control. Will visit again as it was a well run site.

A great site for motorhomers

We stayed on this site April/May for 3 weeks and really enjoyed our stay. We come back every year at the same time and we have been lucky to get the same pitch. This is our kind of site,no facilities, just electric hook-up and hardstanding, makes for a reasonably priced stay. We do not find traffic noise too extreme, we did get the odd noise from clay pigeon shooting but this only seemed to annoy the dogs on site. Possibly a pitch near the road would be noisy. Thereissuch a lot to do from this site if you love walking. Easy to get up on Dartmoor if you take the bus to Bovey Tracey. Lots of walks around Bovey Tracey.. A nice walk from stover off road to Newton Abbott is a must and get the bus back. There is a nice café stop part way on the walk where refreshments can be obtained. Plenty of places to visit using the bus to Newton Abbot and then travelling down to the coast.. We never find it a problem walking to Trago using the road from the roundabout. You just have to use common sense, be aware of the fast moving traffic and be prepared to step onto the grass verge if necessary. Also wear sensible shoes as the grass verge can be a little narrow and undulating. If you are worried about using this road there is another way through the golf course which comes out onto a quiet country lane which you turn right on and it takes you to the back entrance of Trago. although this is a much longer way. We understand that the road into Trago is being changed and it may be that direct access for vehicles will come direct from just near the A38 roundabout . There are plenty of supermarkets in Newton Abbot,as well as the co-op at trago.. In the town centre is Asda, Tescos is just outside the town,a short distance from Tescos is Lidl. A new Aldi store is being built not far from the train station and a bit further up the road is Sainsburys. All these supermarkets are served by a bus service.
