Lovely site

The site had everything to make a holiday comfortable. It was just close enough to town so walking there was easy. A nice open site with good views and plenty of light when the sun was shining and plenty of room to manoeuvre. The toilet block was really good and spotlessly clean we would use this site again, there's plenty to do locally.

Hidden Gem

We got a last minute booking at this site for the last August Bank Holiday and we were very impressed. The wardens were as usual very polite and helpful and gave us a list of available pitches. The pitches are all hard standing and of a very good size as well. Being a relatively newish site the facilities were all immaculate and the showers are the best that we have used, they also had a drying room which is a nice touch. We took our mountain bikes with us on this trip as the site is perfectly situated for trips to Hamsterley Forest which has some of the best mountain bike trails in the UK and also features downhill tracks for the more, shall we say foolhardy! The only negative point i can make is that it was expensive compared to other Caravan Club sites that we have used, but overall great site and location and we will be back

This was our first visit and we were so impressed with the site. The warden give 5star service and the facilities are first class 10 out 10 for cleanliness  can't wait for a return visit.

Well Worth a Visit

We have just spent 8 nights at this site, 2 adults and 3 children aged from 3 - 11, the facilities are excellent and the site is well maintained. The children were quite happy playing in the playground with other children, the youngest under supervision at all times. Access to the site is easy and it is a short walk/drive to visit Barnard Castle, unfortunately we were disappointed with the market, we expected more stalls. The site's location is ideal for exploring the Teesdale and Swaledale areas, both areas offering opportunities for walking and sight seeing.

Lovely site

Stayed here for four nights.  Best facilities we have ever had. Wardens pleasant and welcoming. Wonderful location. Barnard castle delightful. Richmond well worth a visit. Fish and chips from van the best we have had anywhere.  Road a bit noisy but we soon got used to it and it didn't bother us.  Would definitely use the site again if staying in the area.

Warden could not be more helpful

When we arrived we were a little disappointed to find the pitches were all hard standing, as we prefer grass pitches. Then we thought the electric hookup wasn't working, as we didn't have any lighting in our van. So far, not very promising! But it turned out the battery charger in our van had conked out but we still had mains power. The diagnosis was made by the Warden, who was extremely helpful and offered every assistance. We bought some plug-in lights and still managed to enjoy our weekend, even despite torrential rain and a thunderstorm! We'll be back.....

Great for a short break

Stayed for a couple of nights on our way North to tour Scotland. Previously always stopped at Hargill House and never managed to sleep there due to road noise and sloping pitches. Barnard Castle couldn't be more different with immaculate modern facilities and handy 20 minute walk into town - no kids on site in August !

So peaceful

Had a lovely week here, the improved dog walk was excellent although the gate needs to be secured, we did try with an old dog lead but after a day it disapeared. The fish and chips from the visiting van were excellent.  The valley footpath into town was a bit precarious due to a land slip but we managed. The facilities were spotless. The whole stay was excellent, so peaceful didnt hear one water barrel being wheeled!

A Lovely Week in Teesdale

We stayed for 1 week, leaving on 16th August. Excellent site, spotless facilities and easy to find from the A66. Within comfortable walking distance of Barnard Castle which is an attractive market town, with good shopping, ruined castle and also home to the Bowes Museum. The woodland/riverside walk from the site into town was unsafe due a land slip and so had to use the narrow path along the road side verge - whilst not a difficult walk, you do need to keep an eye open for traffic. There is much to see in the area e.g. High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle, Cow Green Reservoir and of course, the Bowes Museum which is a must. We had fish & chips from the visiting fish & chip van and they were excellent. Would definitely recommend the site and we plan to visit again next year. If the site was closer (we live in Norfolk, so quite a long drive) we would, without a doubt, visit more frequently.
