Warm friendly welcome

I've been to this site a couple of times now, it's a lovely site, clean , well kept grounds , huge pitches , and immaculate toilets, the wardens are very friendly and welcoming, I will definately be returning.

Very welcoming

Stayed for 3 nights last week and used it mainly as a base for visiting The Bowes Museum. On arrival the warden was very welcoming and helpful giving advice on walking into town and visiting the museum. The cafes and pubs of Barnard Castle are within easy reach. The facilities on site are bright and spotless. Next time I'll try the fish and chips from the visiting van.

A Benchmark site. Spot on.

Visited end July for a couple of nights as part of a road trip, we have stayed before but couldn't remember it being this good. Wardens were really welcoming although we were a little early, large clear pitches, over looking the valley , good satellite reception, Facilities spotless and well laid out. Walked into barney up and down the hill a few times without problems, We booked a cab to go in on the Sat evening for dinner and it was prompt and only £4.............The mistake we made was not booking a return as when we tried to get a cab back at midnight nothing was available till 01.45. She who must be obeyed was not best pleased walking back in high heels !!. All in all a really great site for activity and peace and quiet. Great wardens and a great view............what its all about really.

Well laid out site

Beautiful site with good sized pitches. Excellent dog walk. Convenient for Barney with local bus stop just outside entrance. Directions need to be amended. It is nearer1.25 km from TLights (not 0.25 km). Very welcoming wardens. good chip van!  Enjoyed our stay

weekend away

stayed here last weekend for 2 nights ,would have found it ok if I had not turned off into Barnard itself but hey ho I find places for myself and not use a Sat Nav just stopped parked up and asked a policeman the way ,nice site I not hear any road noise as I was on the lower terrace ,as I have dogs found the woods good walk ,so walked that way into town and back via the road ,nice town went into 1 pub that allowed dogs in don,t know about the rest ,as I have a camper need to make sure if I go again for any longer its not raining as it's a 20 mins walk into town .

great for dogs

I returned to this site after having to leave early last year and was delighted to find the extended dog field. The wardens were extremely helpful and friendly and I wish more sites had the fantastic drying room

A Perfect Site

Our second visit this year to this walkers paradise. Brian and Janet keep the site and facilities in pristine condition. They have to be one of the most pleasant and helpful hosts on the network, nothing is too much trouble. I hope they are there again next year. If you are there on a Saturday or Wednesday please, try the fish and chips from the visiting van..wow are they special! I would also recommend a trip to Raby castle. Forget any negative comments re road noise as I think the level is totally acceptable. I think I might squeeze another 4 days in before the season ends!!

Spotless site

We stayed here 2 nights in July as stop off heading north. Fantastic site, facilities immaculate, showers like new. We had our 2 kids with us and got a pitch close to the little play park which was great. The play area is cleverly situated down a small path so won't disrupt other guests but close enough to keep an eye on them. Excellent dog walk in neighboring field. Barnard Castle a lovely little market town, 15 mins walk through the woods or 5 mins drive. Road noise was mentioned in other reviews, wasn't an issue for us, the odd car drove past fast in the evening but it certainly didn't wake us or anything.

Great Site

Spent a couple of nights at the site although we only live in Durham. It was our first trip with a caravan. (previously camped) & the first Caravan Club site we have visited.  Site wardens couldn't have been more helpful. Site well laid out with good access to pitches & although next to road didn't notice the odd car that went past. Facilities were spotless & easy to get to from anywhere on the site. Barnard Castle is a great place to explore and some lovely walks down by the river and if you head up the dale you'll find some beautiful villages, Lartington, Romaldkirk & if you keep going Middleton in Teesdale. Great place for a quiet break. Bob & Annie
