Had a very pleasant five day stay at this site during the third week in August.2021.
The site is very well kept and the toilets and showers are excellent.
There is vehicle noise from the main road during the day, however it was vastly reduced for my family and I due to siting the caravan behind the lower level behind the trees adjacent to the toilet block.
The information regarding the distance from the site to the centre of Barnard Castle village varies,
I can tell you that it is not 1.2 miles, it's more like half a mile.
The quickest route is by turning right from the site on to Lartington Lane.
Walk down the hill towards the narrow right hand bend in the road.
On the left is a pathway to an old Victorian iron bridge over the river tees.
Cross the bridge and follow the top right pathway through the small woodland.
This road brings you out to the left of the Castle and the village is directly in front of you.
This route is not recommended for the elderly or infirm as the route on the path is quite steep.
The second route is around a mile in length.
Similarly follow the route via Lartington Lane.
Continue over the small bridge where the road narrows at the bottom of the lane, continue straight on the the road bridge on the left. This is about half a mile from the site.
Cross the bridge following the main road up the hill towards the village.
In the village there are quite a few places to eat and drink.
May I recomend the Three Horseshoes Hotel and Pub.
This pub and hotel has a lovely atmosphere, set in a three hundred year old building.
The ideal watering hole for anyone with a thirst!
Anyone who likes pies( I do because I am from Wigan) must try the butchers shop McFarlane on the corner of the two main streets,which are The Bank and Galgate,
Lovely village with really friendly people.
Will visit again next year.
