A charming site in lovely surroundings

We have just returned from an 8 night stay at this campsite. We had been before many years ago and had always longed to return. We were greeted by super efficient staff who were dealing with the influx of arrivals in a controlled manner. Well done to all the staff who have been dealing with us holiday makers in this challenging times. I loved the ease of access to all that North Norfolk has to offer. Beautiful expanses of golden sands or forest walks through the Sandringham estate. The weather was lovely and that made it lovely for either sitting outside the unit people watching or visiting the sights of Norfolk and returning to catch the last few rays of sunshine. The facilities were clean and well proportioned even with some closed off for social distancing reasons. There were numerous nights when the takeaway vans came on site- ideal to give the mums and dads a rest from cooking! I was delighted to see posters around the site regarding the recent survey of the speed limit on campsites, however I was disappointed to see very few drivers adhering to the 5 MPH rule. This was not just on this campsite as I have witnessed it across every site I visit. It's my bugbear when I go on holiday - hopefully the CAMC will continue to tackle it.

One night only

Just one night on way to motorhome weekend at Norwich,so used 1st pitch we saw. Nice trees and good to see rabbits and hear birds. Toilet block etc as expected.water could be hotter at sinks. Would be good to have area adults only but its summer so we expect noisy children. Easy to find and well signed.

Woodland paradise and natural

We stayed 2 nights recently at this location, and absolutely loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was an abundance of information on were to go from the site. Castle Rising is a charming little spot (very short cycle ride, but across the main ride at one point) with a tea room, pub and clothing boutique. There is a social club that can walk to through the woods, so yes, cheaper priced drinks than in a pub. Social club looks like a ranch type building with a verandah around. Nice walk to Sandringham estate, but book online if you want to see the house and gardens. Fish n chip van Monday, Wed & Friday and I think there is a pizza van on the Thursday. We didn't try these as we took our own food. Only thing I would say is PIGEONS. I thought they looked very innocent and cute during the day, but at night they jump on the roof ...lol...well tap dance, so if you can get a kite replica to stick on the roof to deter them at would be all well and good, otherwise be prepared for the tap dancing pigeons or invest in some earplugs. Saying that, we didn't have that many pigeons land on the roof by the sounds of it. No more than on or two. Loved the site, and would good back in a heart beat

Top site

We stayed here from the 31/7/21 to 1/8/2021. First let me get the negativity out of the way, Internet/WIFI, terrible. I paid for a weeks connection at £11 and managed 2 hours of connection and yes the pitches do slope slightly, but easily rectified. What a very helpful and lovely team of Wardens, I say "Team" as that is exactly what they all are working together to make sure the visitors get the best support/advice/guidance they can, and I know that if there wasn't something available in the site shop, Sue, had offered to collect it for them from her own shopping trip and deliver it to the Caravan/Motorhome door, I know this as I ran out of Potatoes and she offered to get me some that night whilst out. The site is lovely and clean, bright and the toilets are spotless, I used the Disabled toilet each time and the facilities available were exactly what was needed for me, and when we arrived, due to my disability, 3 different Wardens came over to ask my hubby and I if we needed help setting up, such a friendly team,. All in all a great stay, Kings Lynn literally a straight drive, ASDA 5 mins away, a straight drive there too. A great site managed by concerned supportive Wardens, really enjoyed our stay, highly recommended Steve, Mark, Sue and Les, thank you for a lovely stay..

Very pleasant stay

Spent a couple of nights here in August and had lovely sunny weather. We are in a motorhome and enjoyed the beautiful walks around the estate and to the house and gardens. Sadly the house was not open during our stay. The EE phone signal was virtually non existent but we had perfect TV reception with no extra booster. The facilities were fine but I was surprised to find there was only a very small single hand basin serving several toilet cubicles. We did have pizzas from the visiting van one evening but they were poor, and disappointing.

A balanced review of Sandringham

Just back from a ten night stay on this site. Access is very easy from Kings Lynn on a straight road. The site is well laid out with great pitches in lovely woodlands. Some pitches are sloping so don’t forget the levelling blocks! The site is well located to explore the coastline and is itself in a lovely woodland area with plenty of forest walks. The wardens were a great bunch; all really friendly, welcoming, helpful; they’re an asset to the CC. The facilities were immaculately clean for our first week or so but the CC’s usual high standards slipped a bit as the site became 100% full. We use our own shower as a rule but one evening I used the site's shower and was surprised to find the floors were really dirty, and a swarm of insects a bit like small flying ants had found its way into the showers. Insects were stuck all over the walls inside the shower cubicle! That was not pleasant but worse, I noticed they were still there or there again the following night. The previous comments about poor telephone/Wi-Fi signals are absolutely correct. We're on Vodafone which generally has a reputation for getting a signal in most places but Sandringham was too much even for Vodafone! We never got 4G, suffered intolerably slow 3G and mostly had "e" or no signal at all. We were visiting Norfolk with friends who were not staying on the site but in Kings Lynn and we had to make all arrangements in advance because we could not rely on any digital messages arriving at all or on time. No room for any arrangements changing at short notice or any emergencies either! No checking weather forecasts for places we were due to visit – of course it’s manageable with a lot of planning but all a bit inconvenient. We know we rely on our phones but this doesn’t make it any easier when they fail! We looked at taking a CC Wi-Fi subscription but were advised against it because it’s not good enough either. The really negative thing for us on this site is the pigeons. Their numbers are definitely out of control; they are like a plague! Every morning at 5/6 am we’d be woken by pigeons clattering on the roof. We didn’t pitch or park under the trees but the mess they made on the caravan, awning and car was amazing. We not city based; we live in a rural village and love the birdsong but in this beautiful forest we heard nothing but the incessant pigeons and an owl on one night. It was the talk of the site and it’s such a shame; you really can’t grasp how this effects the enjoyment of this otherwise lovely site until you have experienced it, and it's definitely what we'll remember of Sandringham, and sadly the thing that will make us think twice about returning, Hope this review helps you all!

Chill out

Great site in the woods, very peaceful apart from the noisy pigeons, Very friendly staff, most sites level, hedging and trees to separate areas of the site. No problem with phone signal. Very hot weather but the trees gave some welcome shade. Toilets and facilities clean and tidy. Visited Sandringham House, Brancaster Beach and Hunstanton, all well worth the trip. Rounded off with fish and chips on the Green at Hunstanton. Refreshment vans visit the camp site most nights. Will definitely be back,

Lovely site but no phone signal and useless WiFi

Stayed on this site late June 2021. Site spotless and management team excellent. We soon discovered that there was almost no phone signal on the site, we use EE ! so we were going to purchase WiFi but soon found out that this was almost use less and would be a total waste of money. We continued to enjoy our long awaited holiday going off site when we needed contact with our family which was often as our old cat was being treated by our vet. This became very annoying having to leave the site every morning and evening, we expected at least some form of communication access as our business and home life is smart system enabled. The club / site needs to sort this out with urgency. On our last day driving into the site our car was hit by a stone, cracking the windscreen. This is where the lack of phone signal really caused us a problem, we had to risk moving location with the stone chip to Cambridge, we hoped it would not fracture so it could be repaired. We were very lucky according to the auto windscreen fitter and he was able to seal the crack before it got worse. Moral of this story is it’s a must for club sites to invest in phone/wifi for all club members in the 21st century 🤔

Enjoyable Stay

This club site is fine and kept well, friendly wardens on arrival and around the site. Yes sloping pitches but managed to find a fairly level one for our caravan. We were unknowingly right near a pumping station on the other side of the fence but the low hum didn’t bother us too much. One negative was the restriction in the toilet blocks with only two out of three WC cubicles in use, even though three “bands” were in play. Especially the ladies as they only have WC cubicles at least the gents has urinals as well. That said it was unbelievable how many people seemed unable to follow or undersand the system??!! Three bands in the tub, if all are on hooks then don’t go in - of course some did. I even saw one guy taking the band off his wrist on exiting the building, he obviously thought he had to wear it.Doh. Sandringham House and gardens are lovely but unless you like a country walk don’t follow the directions given out at reception, it’s a long country path, a bit heavy underfoot, not very well signed on route hence easy to take a wrong turn and is at least 45 minutes (an hour with wrong turns). Google maps will give you a route mainly on roads, a lot easier on the feet and only half an hour. All that said, this is a really good site and we will be back at some point.

Great location, really easy access

Just returned from 16 night stay at The Sandringham Club site. Really easy access, makes a nice change. Check in OK. Large site which was very full with big turnarounds almost every day which is probably why they couldn't tell me which pitches were free, just to drive around and pick one. Not much choice and all the better pitches were occupied so decided on a grass pitch. Although they didn't look it a lot of the pitches were very sloping and chocks/stacker pads will be required on most pitches. Grass areas in general were very poor mostly down to the abundance of rabbits who appeared to have little fear of people as they were out 24/7. They had clearly been digging everywhere with holes all over the place. Its OK to put up a sign to say beware rabbits but filling in the holes and re-seeding would have been better. Although there were several wardens they did not spend much time around the site apart from on their tractors attending to the waste areas. Wi-fi on the site is not good even the 'hotspot' was poor. The top area of the site seemed a bit higher and we sometimes got a better reception up there. TV reception is poor so we needed to use the booster provided. The dog walk on site is very small and unusually it states to keep your dog on a lead? Not much use if you have an energetic dog who likes to retrieve a ball! Lots of walks through the woods but not every dog likes to walk through woods with in places narrow paths through the ferns. I would highly recommend taking insect repellent we were bitten to pieces, my husband looked like he had measles. Access to Sandringham House takes approx 40 mins to walk, only available currently if pre booked ( £20 per person and only a few downstairs rooms open, and I believe not open July/Aug as HRH is in residence)and they wont allow dogs into the gardens. At most NT houses we visit one of us sits outside the house while the other one goes in and then we swap, can't do this there as not allowed anywhere near house with the dog. Unfortunately you can't see the house from anywhere unless you want to pay to go in .We drove to their car park £3.50 for 2 hours and had a walk around the estate and a coffee in the cafe. If the church is open it is well worth a visit the inside is quite spectacular, and you can take your dog in as well! We were lucky to see the fantastic display of rhododendrons which grow like weeds. A drive to Wolverton is worthwhile to see The Royal Station which was decommissioned in 1966 but has been beautifully maintained by private owners, it is currently closed due to covid but you can take pictures and the history is one their website. Wells next the Sea is a charming little place well worth a visit.
