GREAT SHORT BREAK

Easy to book and get booked in. Had a fully serviced pitch taking advantage of discounted autumn rates. TV aerial did not work - reported. Otherwise good pitch, plenty of space, open and sunny (no. 101). Short distance to shower/toilet block and laundry room/information board. Shower cubicles best I've ever had. Separate cubicle for shower so floor doesn't get wet and plenty of room to change and hang clothes. Shower gave loads of nicely hot water. Everything spotlessly clean. Hairdryer. Motorhome service point also excellent - everything in one place and plenty of room to manoeuvre. Restaurant attached to the site is open to the public. It was busy though we had not booked and we easily got a table. The food was probably the best we've had - Balmoral Chicken and Steak Pie - both excellent and £13.50 each. All staff very pleasant and friendly. Reception also has a little shop. Location of site is close to a bus into Stirling (though it's down a snicket which could get very muddy). Also the Battle of Bannockburn experience is well worth a visit and, if you're cycling, the Callendar to Killin railway line route is a good one. Great campsite, great restaurant. Well worth a return visit.

Not so great for dogs

Having seen the claims made for dog walks both on and off this site in the club listing we thought it would be perfect for our two dogs. However, we were a bit stunned to find that there is in fact no proper dog walk on the site! There is a small grassed area between the caravans and lodges but other than that you have to cross the road outside to use the public footpaths. When we raised this with the site office we were advised to walk our dogs “through the caravans”. This didn’t seem to us to be a great solution and in fact we felt so unwelcome that we decided to move on rather than complete our pre paid stay ( for which no refund was forthcoming). We have since raised the issue with the club but see that the listing remains unchanged. The club told us that they merely publish what the sites tell them. Well the club should note that as the publisher they are responsible for the accuracy or otherwise of the listing. It would also be helpful if the term “dog walk” had a bit of clarification for future reference.

Quiet Site

Stayed here recently on a fully serviced pitch for people with mobility problems, which was handy for the toilet block. Went for a shower, but the disabled one was locked and I had to use one of the ordinary ones. Unfortunately I slipped in the shower, which had no helpful features, and was unable to get up. Eventually, with the help of another caravanner who went for my husband, helped me up and mopped the wet floor, I was able to get dried and back to our caravan, bruised and shaken. Apparently I should have been given a key to the disabled facilities, but this wasn't offered, despite walking with a stick and using the ramp into reception. Turned out the shower wasn't working anyway. Please make sure you're given a key if you need one!

Super site for Stirling and an overnight on way to the Cairngorms & Aberdeenshire coast or the western Highlands

This is a great site. Clean modern facilities, quiet and superbly located. Lots of choice of what to do and where to go. Yet another site we'll definitely return to.

Nice site

This is a good site, well run by helpful friendly staff. Good bus service to Stirling. Well located if you want to drive further north. The restaurant at the gate to the site is excellent - good menu choice and good service - remember to book.

Our First trip in our Camper Van

This was our first outing in are camper van and couldn’t have found a better site to start with. Everything about it was excellent from the pitches to the washing facilities just everything. We will definitely be using the site again.

Great Toilet Block!

We chaose location for the Kelpies and Flakirk Wheel and as it was a CAMC affiliated site. Not dissapointed. Attached Pub also very nice food. Can probably get a closer site to Falkirk but was only a 20 ninute drive, many other thinkgs to visit, Stirling castle. The top half of the site is very like a CAMC site, the lower half has the camping area and more lodges and feels a bit more commercial, but it' still a perfectly nice and well looked after site! THe toilet block is the best I have ever visited!!!

Not a club site

The site is well placed for visiting Sterling, in an area where it’s difficult to find sites. However I’m not sure why it’s affiliated as there appears to be no discount and no one is interested in seeing your card The receptionist advised me to pitch on the second field as it’s quieter. Certainly there were large groups of campers having get togethers in the first field Pitches are very large with lovely views. Only 1 toilet block was open and we couldn’t find any local information and the receptionist wasn’t interested. There’s zero recycling and the waste/toilet drains were quite smelly It’s a very well laid out large site and useful for a few days.

Good for cycling

The site staff have no information about cycling so here it is. Access to cycle path: turn right out of the site, then immediately left, past the Sauchie Tower. The road curves in a semi-circle and at the middle of the curve take the track right, by the wooden palisade fence. Follow the track some 100 metres and then turn an acute left following the cycle path sign. Go down 50 metres to the cycle path and turn right to Dollar or left to Stirling. Dollar is closer and has an excellent cafe and pub. Delightful place, and a short cycle for softies like us! The caravan site is huge and affiliated so don't expect the normal. Some things are better and other things are worse. Lovely vistas of the hills from the lower site. And we had a good tv and phone signal.
