Thirsk racecourse

Just come from Thirsk racecourse , right in the middle off Thirsk 5 minutes walk to the town with plenty off shops and bars the couple who run the site are very nice can’t do enough for you . You do have to move to the rear field when the racing is on but that’s not a problem , the site has everything you need showers and toilets are spotlessly clean , will definitely be back

Very poor site and extremely disappointed

Very disappointed in this site. Our first and last stay here I'm afraid. Certainly not up to the usual Club standards. Issues are: 1. Very noisy site. Busy road running behind the non awning pitches not shown on any of the club photos. Noisy late night yobo traffic using that road as a race track. Noisy football practice next to the site on the racecourse until 8.00pm on Tuesday night. 2. Very long grass on the site. 3. No designated dog walking area. 4. Very tight non awning pitches leaving little room between outfits. 5. What looked like a gypsy caravan came onto the site and stayed. 6. Little or no security in or out of the site. No security gate which allowed anyone in to the site from the town. Very nervous about leaving the caravan unattended. 7. Very basic service point, not hygienic. Never ventured into the club toilet facilities so can't comment other than to say I was informed by the pleasant warden on arrival that they were of a poor standard. Although some reviews are quite glowing about the site, it just shows we all have different standards. We left the site with one day still left on our booking and came home. Not I'm afraid a site booking to be repeated from our point of view.

You won't be disapointed

Nice site, really nice wardens. Very close to town. Must disagree with some negative comments on the facilities, found them to be spotlessly clean and not as outdated as some seem to suggest (and for £51 for a Fridayand Saturday night stay, it's cheaper than a lot of CAMC sites).

Safety

Love this site, facilities are poor but clean racecourse as I understand it won't update. However this time the speed on the site was ridiculous cars towing and motorhomes included! its a grass site and not flat , accident waiting to happen especially as some ignorant people seem to think it's fine to drive between units even when towing a caravan. Dogs running around on site not on leads now if you combine the speed, going between units and untethered dogs Accident! The wardens are great but they can't see everything so come on follow the rules and respect your fellow campers.

Lovely site near the town of Thirsk.

Were welcomed by really friendly wardens when we arrived. We were on a grass pitch by the racecourse field, so only 3 caravans there. Nice and quiet area. Easy walk into the town of Thirsk which has an Italian restaurant, a Wetherspoons and a couple of other pubs. Just over the road is an Tesco and Lidl. We were informed the toilet facilities were not up to standard as they belong to the Racecourse. I didn't use the facilities, but they looked clean, just well used and outdated.

One of our favourite sites

Thirsk site has 2 of the best wardens Paul and Jen who are so welcoming friendly and helpful that you are sure to have a great stay here. Nothing is too much trouble. They definitely go above and beyond in their job. We Love where the site is in relation to the town centre. 5mins walk and you are in the friendliest town. Lots of things to see and do. I would love to see it open all year by using the hardstanding car park for 5 vans during the winter months the main grass site closes.

horrendous facilities beware

The toilets and showers at the Thirsk Racecourse site are appalling and are an accident waiting to happen. I am shocked that the Caravan Club think it is acceptable to expect members to use them. I have been a member of the club for 20 plus years and have never encountered a toilet block like this. To say it is shabby and dangerous is an understatement. It made my flesh creep to use these facilities. Beware. I do wonder if the Caravan Club have even been in this toilet block in the last 20 years. I am old enough to remember places like this in the 1960's. But that was 60 years ago. This is not acceptable in 2023. Having tried initially to leave a review on the Club website I was not able to do so. I left a review on Trustpilot instead as I was so cross. Eventually the Club responded by basically suggesting I was using the website incorrectly, was logged in incorrectly or not at all. I knew I was doing everything right but they were rather unpleasant with me. It transpired eventually that there is a known problem with the club site that means that some longstanding members , like me, are not able to leave reviews. If they knew about this why then were they so unhelpful and frankly insulting towards me. It seems to me that there must be many members like me being precluded from using the review feature. I have still however, had no response to my original complaint / comments regarding the toilet block at Thirsk. It's pretty grim being a member of the Caravan Club these days. It's like wading through treacle. The website isn't fit for purpose and the attitude of the Club is increasingly hard to take. I have gone from loyal member to ex member very rapidly.

Stop over for the better half

We stopped here on a tour after being on a excellent CL. Super little site is Thirsk, fabulous staff and all the facilities you need. Supermarkets are as have been mentioned and we topped up for our 3 day stay and again before we left, Thirsk is great for the Herriot thing and for cycling out as we did, the plotted route from the site was good but you need to be a regular cyclist or an e-bike rider to tackle one section of this pleasant route, The site was busy when we were there as in 95% full and around 90% when we left but I guess the low prices as compared to other club sites is a pull and bonus, which is why we chose it in the first place. We'll probably be back on another North Yorkshire trip.

Our perfect site with Lovely wardens

Jen and Paul are the wardens here and I can honestly say they are the nicest pair you will meet. We Love this site as it is so easy to walk into Thirsk which is a charming little town. Highly recommend a visit Great on race days too to watch the racing but remember you on a non hook up field till races are over

Great stay at Thirsk

Had a great three night stay at Thirsk Racecourse, arrived just before 1pm and joined the queue to check in. Site wardens we’re very informative and helpful. Facilities were very clean, a bit outdated but spotless. A nice leisurely walk into town, there are some lovely coffee shops, a good few pubs or hotels for a stop off to eat or drink. Handy to visit Easingwold, Northallerton and York either by bus from the market place or by train. Right next door for two supermarkets should you forget or need anything. We will definitely return, maybe for a race day too.
